My hubby's family has deep roots in that area, he was born, raised and graduated HS and college in SLC. He laughed uncontrollably when I told him about this. He said it will either be beyond boring or the craziest series yet. He grew up Mormon and I have heard some INSANE stories about the area. So it will be interesting who they choose. If he knows any families I might be able to share some gossip lol.

I'm a former Mormon and back living in Utah where I grew up, and I'm with your husband on this Realitychick. There's all sorts of speculation going on in the liberal/post-Mormon community here about who will be on the show. (Likely no one I know, since I'm not among the Utah rich and famous. LOL) I'm not sure how traditional Mormons are feeling about it. I'm guessing they aren't quite as excited as the rest of us about having an "outsider" light shone on Utah culture.

This city choice confused me. All of the other RH series include drinking. Will there be any drinking in RHSLC?

My friend thinks that Bravo doesn't need anymore housewives cities, but I'm looking forward to this. It's something new.

Oh this should be an interesting Real Housewives!!!
We were in SLC this summer for a huge RAIL Conference for hubby!!
Having never been to SLC, I decided to tag along with him and check out the city!!!
We stayed at the Grand America Hotel right in the heart of SLC. It was a beautiful hotel.
The weather was BROILING. There is a free bus service for people to jump on and off to go to all the shops and Malls and restaurants.
While hubby was in all his meetings I took the bus back and forth to "Temple Square" spending time touring all the buildings.
I had the privilege of sitting in one of the rehearsals of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as they were practicing before heading out on tour.
They were outstanding.
Allot of the stores and Malls are closed on Sunday's in SLC. It's odd. No clue why.
Thankfully the hotel had a beautiful spa and a gorgeous pool so I spent Sunday there.

I visited SLC many years ago, and remember how pretty it was. We too sat in on a choir rehearsal. Very memorable! Considering the Mormon influence, I’m not surprised on the stores, etc being closed on Sundays. I grew up in the south/Bible belt, and the day of rest thing was prominent. Not so much now, but you’ll still find some who follow that. I think if there were to be another RW franchise, it would have to offer something very different than what’s out there now, or in the past. I can imagine SLC will fit the bill. Looking forward to it.

Are there mountains near SLC? If so, I think the scenery would be another great part of the show. It would be a cool backdrop instead of just big houses or tall buildings.

Salt Lake is in a valley surrounded by mountains and many ski resorts. The Winter Olympics were there in 2002 (I think). Park City, which is nearby, has some spectacularly beautiful mountain homes. As for whether or not there will be drinking, half of the people in Salt Lake County are not Mormons, and there are plenty of Mormons so don't follow all of the rules. Most do, however. It would be interesting if the cast included a mix of women--some who were never Mormons (there are lots of Californians who have moved here), some who were raised Mormon but have left, and some who are conventional Mormons. There are lots of interesting culture clashes to explore. From what I understand, one of the main requirements is that they be obscenely rich, and there are plenty of people like that in Salt Lake. One of my friends posted that Draper, a city in the south end of Salt Lake valley, has more millionaires per capita than anywhere in the US. (I haven't verified that statistic, but I can believe it.)

I think this has the potential to be really interesting. The other cities largely revolve around the ladies getting drunk, so seeing sober people might be a nice change. People can clash when they are sober. If they can still bring the drama, go for it. Maybe it will be a different kind of drama. i don't know much about Mormon culture, so I'm not opposed to learning more about that, if there are Mormons on the show. I'm kind of getting tired of some of the older cities anyway.

There's been hints there was another franchise but all the talk has been about Chicago. Salt Lake City was a surprise but so was Potomac so I'm excited to see the new girls.

Funny story. I was at a Christmas party in Salt Lake over the weekend with some high school friends, most of whom I don't see very often, and we were talking about the show. (Most of those present, including me, have never watched a Real Housewives show, but it's hard not to know about them. ) About half the people there are practicing Mormons (I'm not), and we were wondering what the mix would be for the cast. I mentioned that I'd heard that one of the women is an active Mormon, but she and her husband run a tequila distillery. One of the guys perked up and said that sounded like his nephew and his wife. We did a little googling to confirm, and it turned out it was. Small world! So I'm now a couple of degrees of separation from a Real Housewife. Woo-Hoo!

The production company that produces the Real Housewives franchise has been trying to get a Vegas franchise going for years. I have a friend who lives out there and on two separate occasions, she has seen casting calls and a casting agent was in the clubhouse of their gated community trying to drum up some interest. About 6 or 7 years ago, they did get a couple of women interested. one was a high end realtor my friend knew.

Interesting article. I'd like to know who the "Mormon Royalty" families are that the article refers to. As a former Mormon from Utah, I'll be curious to see if I've ever heard of them. LOL

Did anybody else watch? I have to say I was not impressed. I don't know if I'll stick with this one or not. When I realized it was going to 11:15, I actually went to sleep before it was over. I though the women were trying way too hard to perform. I was also really uncomfortable with how front and center they made religion with the whole thing. I get that the Mormon church is a really big part of Salt Lake City so it's going to be there. But I would have preferred it to be a background mention. I got a bad feeling when they started the intro of each woman by going through her religious history.
