I watched. Who knew that SLC was a Mecca for plastic surgery? Anyway, I don't see anything unique in this show.

Did anybody else watch? I have to say I was not impressed. I don't know if I'll stick with this one or not. When I realized it was going to 11:15, I actually went to sleep before it was over. I though the women were trying way too hard to perform. I was also really uncomfortable with how front and center they made religion with the whole thing. I get that the Mormon church is a really big part of Salt Lake City so it's going to be there. But I would have preferred it to be a background mention. I got a bad feeling when they started the intro of each woman by going through her religious history. I have it my DVR but have not seen it yet. School has me bogged as the semester is winding down. I still have yet to see OC Housewives. 11:15pm.....yikes.......did it run over? I will keep it and watch over my winter break. Then decide if I am interested in continue watching it.

They just made it a supersized hour and 15 minute episode to hae time to introduce everyone and get things started.

I was intrigued. It appears that there is only one or two actual practicing Mormons. One was kicked out after having an affair while she and her now husband were both married to other people. One is divorced from her "Mormon Royalty" husband but she may still call herself Mormon, not really clear. One is converting to Islam. For the ones who are actually part of Mormonism, I am curious if they act anything like the housewives in other cities.
And then there is the one who married her step-grandfather after her Grandmother passed.

I haven't watched it yet, but from what I read in their bios, I don't think any of them who are still Mormons are very strict about practicing their religion. They seem to be among those who pick and choose which rules to follow, if they follow any at all, but still feel connected to church socially and maybe even spiritually. They just do it on their own terms. I won't be surprised if some of them drink.
The two blondes are related somehow (maybe through marriage) and both claimed to be Mormon royalty. As a former Mormon who grew up in Utah, I'm curious to know what family they're from so I can decide for myself if they're actually royalty. LOL

I do not remember his name, but she explained that her ex-husband's family was the family of a man who was considered to be the protector of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Not sure if that's enough of a description for you to figure out who he is. She did name him though!

LOL It's very OTT, but I didn't mind it, ill see how it goes. My aunt and uncle joined the mormon church, and both my cousins did missionary work for a year. One is a motivational speaker, the other a top notch lawyer. The two I like on the show, are Heather, who seems down to earth, and Whitney who resembles Jenny McCarthy. Of course this is subject to change,. This might help..Mary married her step grandfather .https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2558619/the-real-housewives-of-salt-lake-city-heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-bravo-cast

Not sure if that's enough of a description for you to figure out who he is. She did name him though! EDITED TO ADD: So I'm watching the show, and I was wrong in what I wrote earlier, but I'll leave so as not to confuse anyone who already read what's below the line here. I grew up Mormon (all of my ancestors were original Mormon Pioneers, too, so maybe I'm Mormon royalty and don't know it. LOL). I've never heard of Whitney's ancestor, Shadrach Roundy. The only bodyguard to Joseph Smith and Brigham Young that anyone outside her family has ever heard of is the guy I talked about below. I'm not saying she shouldn't be proud of her heritage, but she's way overexaggerating this guy's importance to Mormons in general. (I read his Wikipedia entry, and he was involved in a bunch of things that were important to Mormon history. I'm just saying that he's not a name most people would know.) Her cousin Heather's claim to fame is that her ex-father in law was the head of Howard Hughes' Mormon Mafia and oversaw several of Hughes's companies, which left him very rich when Hughes died. So she married into a rich Mormon family, but again, their name isn't a household name among Utah Mormons, though most Mormons around my age (69) would have certainly have heard of the Mormon Mafia. _________________________________________________________ Interesting. I'll have to watch, but I'm assuming it was Porter Rockwell, which is nothing to be proud of in my opinion, though he is a well-known and popular Mormon folk hero. If you separate him from all of the sanitized Mormon versions of things, I'd say he was a murderer and a bully and likely more than a little bit crazy. It's kind of like saying you're descended from Wyatt Earp or Pat Garrett, which would be an interesting bit of history but would hardly make you American royalty. (But I'm guessing the Mormon Royalty thing was something Bravo came up with.) Here's the Wikipedia entry on him if you're interested. In following the Bear River Massacre link at the bottom of the article, I discovered he was the guide who led the US Army in 1863 to find the Northwest Band of the Shoshone tribe at their winter camp--near what is now Preston, Idaho--where the army proceeded to slaughter over 250 men, women, and children. (Some say it was as many as 500.) It was the largest massacre of Native Americans on US soil, and the fact that he was part of that, endears him to me even less. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porter_Rockwell

OK. I finished watching the show, and while there were a few hilarious moments, I didn't find these women interesting enough to want to follow. They are so shallow, and I can't stand watching their overly-Botoxed immovable faces. I'm guessing that they aren't much different from the housewives in other areas, but I've never watched those shows either. Guess I won't be starting. At least people get to see some beautiful scenery with this show.

LOL Who hates the "smell of a hospital" on one of her dear friends so she insulted her. Did I mention that same woman is a pastor & wore white pantyhose to a party. White pantyhose...don't nurses wear white pantyhose . I will try to give this show another week but IMHO it was awful. They are trying to extra already existing franchises and doing it poorly.

I really liked it as an intro episode. I think their religion was a big part of the first episode because so many are tuning in because of or with questions about them being Mormon (read back through this thread when we all heard it was coming for an example) The first few of any franchise I sort of have to 'wade through' because I don't know any of them and there's no real story yet, but I thought this was a good first episode. I'm pretty sure that even as I get to know it, the brunettes will stay 'the brunettes', ha!

I did not enjoy this show. Nothing Mormon about any of them. Andy Cohen plucked women from Jersey and put them in SLC. No class, no endearing qualities, no authenticity.

I agree...makes me want to visit Salt Lake City..and take up skiing! You should come (once we're not a COVID hotspot)! It's beautiful here. Come in the winter to ski and then come back in the late spring or early fall to see all of the beautiful red rock national parks: Arches, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef. They are so beautiful in an entirely different way. If you like outdoor activities, Utah definitely doesn't suck on that front. Plus, we now have an alien monolith. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/nov/23/helicopter-pilot-finds-strange-monolith-in-remote-part-of-utahP.S. I'm really bummed, because I wanted to watch the new episodes on the Bravo website, and they are now making you log in with your television provider. Rude! :D

San Francisco Bay Area, MissGriss! We don't allow snow! No, you don't! I grew up in Utah, and the summer after I graduated from high school, my mom married a man from Berkeley and moved there with my younger siblings. After attending college in Utah for two years, I decided to stay home and go to UC Berkeley for a year, and it was so strange to me when (from my Utah perspective) winter never happened. I did love the Bay Area, though. I was actually born in Berkeley when my father was working on his PhD there, so it was a coming home of sorts.

I’ve found myself partially watching this show even though I said at first I would not. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s getting better or because there’s not enough on these days. But I’ve figured out how I’d describe it. You know those murder in a box games where everyone comes to a party as a character and tries to figure out a mystery? Well if the made a box like that called How to Host A Housewife where a group of housewives fans would all come dressed up as characters and act out a show - I think it would be Salt Lake.
