I wonder if it's just that Hamm is closer friends with the Tina Fey-Amy Poehler crowd, and most of them are gone. He kept working with Tina for years on 30 Rock and Kimmy Schmidt.
I honestly forgot the season premiere was this weekend, I have to find the show to watch it.

I honestly forgot the season premiere was this weekend, I have to find the show to watch it. You might be right. Unfortunately. I just think he's one of the better hosts in recent years. Funny, great at characters and totally unafraid to make a fool of himself. He and Melissa McCarthy are two I'd never be unhappy to see hosting.
James Austin Johnson has proved himself to be good at impressions, but I'd like to see him do just regular characters. He can only go so far doing Trump every other week. Hopefully, the need for that character will soon be at an end.

They don't seem interested in having John Hamm host NOW, but at least they ran his episode from 10/25/08 this weekend. So fun to see his James Mason impression again in the Vincent Price Halloween Special sketch. "There once was a girl named Regina...."  |

"Certainly!... where are the whores?" On an SNL documentary special, Bobby Moynihan told the story that during dress rehearsal, Hamm was doing a Dean Martin impression. Afterward they told him they wanted to change it to James Mason, and he said, "yup, got it" and went on and did a perfect James Mason on the live show without a second of rehearsal. |
