Anne Rice passed away last night, according to her son. I've loved almost all of the books I've read of hers, plus I remember seeing her beautiful house on a NOLA tour. They are going to bury her in NOLA and have a big remembrance party for the fans there next year in her honor. RIP, Gothic Queen.

Those of a certain age will most likely remember the song Signs by The Five Man Electric Band. Their lead singer & the guy that wrote the song was named Lee Emerson, Lee passed away today at the age of 77. He had Covid. According to his wife he was fully vaccinated but “He had underlying health conditions that made him additionally vulnerable to Covid.”
Monik added that her husband had been in-and-out of the hospital for other reasons over the past year.

I almost dropped my phone when I saw the news about Betty. It was almost her 100th birthday! RIP, Betty, you will certainly be missed.

Dammit! This sucks! 99 is great but that doesn't mean I am not sad. She was one hell of a woman, from her career to her work with animal rights. There will be no other.

My favorite female comedian has passed. She was just joking with Ryan Reynolds on Twitter the other day, so I'm stunned and sad, but also tickled she had such a fun and full life. Thanks for the joy you sowed, Betty.

I was so sad to read this, I so hoped she'd reach one hundred. Her comedic timing was brilliant, she was such a sassy woman. May she RIP,the golden girls are reunited.

I just saw the news a little while ago in my FB feed. Kathy Griffin posted a pic of them together with a broken heart emoji
It's heartbreaking because we all expected her to make it to 100, at least. 99 is a wonderful long life and she was healthy and working almost until the end. Now she can rest and be with Allen. People put her on their upcoming/new cover to celebrate her 100th birthday and I worried they were jinxing her.
We're watching the coverage of her passing on MSNBC right now and remembering her legacy and impact. We've gone through a few tissues.
Speaking of long lives, Wayne Thiebaud, one of my favorite artists, passed this week at the incredible age of 101. He lived in my city and was fortunate to meet him when I worked at the art museum. He would sometimes just show up and walk the galleries. The husband of a friend of mine, who is in his late-80s/early 90s had a weekly tennis game with Mr. Thiebaud up until pretty recently. We always joked that it must have been a rollicking game, but they still got out there and played! He was painting in his studio up until the very end.
We've lost too many wonderful people this year, especially in the last few weeks. As far as I'm concerned, 2021 can eff right off

When this came up on my MSN homepage this morning I yelled out NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Not Betty. Not our National Treasure. We're not ready to lose her yet. We had no warnings. Being 99 doesn't count as a warning. So far as we knew, she hadn't been hospitalized or even sick. At least with Prince Philip, we knew he had been sick & hospitalized. He had quit working. It was very disappointing, but not a shock. With Betty we had none of that. We just kept hearing how she was looking forward to her birthday. I was looking forward to her 100 year birthday celebration. Heaven is an even happier place now. And she's with Allen.

SO many tributes coming in. These are a few of my favorites. Ryan Reynolds: “The world looks different now. She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.” Valerie Bertinelli: “Rest in peace, sweet Betty. My God, how bright heaven must be right now.” Seth Meyers: "RIP Betty White, the only SNL host I ever saw get a standing ovation at the after party. A party at which she ordered a vodka and a hotdog and stayed til the bitter end." Note: if you haven't seen the episode of SNL that Betty hosted (and 88!), stop what you're doing and watch it!
On Twitter, Kathy Griffin tweeted about working with Betty and spending time with her backstage at the Emmys with Don Rickles (oh, to be a fly on the wall!). She also talked about how Betty came to meet Kathy's beloved mother, who was a huge fan. It was on Kathy's series My Life on the D List and Betty couldn't have been sweeter. As Kathy said, they really did just seem like old friends.
As if 2021 wasn't sad enough. This has definitely cast a pall over NYE. Katie Tur on MSNBC said that she hopes NBC airs Betty's SNL episode tomorrow night and I agree! There will definitely be lots of MTM and GG marathons this weekend.

My grandfather and his golfing friends always had a rule that they never celebrated any of their birthdays before the day of “just in case they didn’t make it”. I’m appreciating that rule a little more today. But what a final gift she gave us all sitting down for interviews to reflect on life preparing for 100!

My dad was talking the other day about how he's only 3 years away from 90 and I immediately knocked wood.
Agreed about the interview. That's a wonderful thing to leave behind for all of us.
I was thinking back to Betty's stock answer to the question, "What haven't you done that you still would like to do?" Betty: "Robert Redford."
I'd like to think that some version of this is happening right now: youtu.be/my-yySguoGk (it's definitely NSFW! )

I felt like "we" were making too much of a big deal about it with the big TV special. I heard from a couple of my friends who also had those feelings. It sure does feel like it was jinxed.

Oh, please reconsider.
Betty White passed away peacefully in her sleep! ON New Year's Eve, a universally celebrated day!! At the age of 99!!!
It makes me happy that she was blessed with, and we were blessed knowing she had, an idyllic goodbye.

I was able to look up one of my favorite scenes from the Mary Tyler Moore show, featuring "Sue Ann Nivens."
After a party at Mary's house, Sue Ann is apologizing for having to leave early (rather than helping Mary clean up). As she is saying her good-byes at the door, she says, "Here's the best way to clean up a room like this. Pretend the room is a large clock. Pick a spot to be 12:00. Work your way around the room clockwise, cleaning as you go. You'll be done in two shakes of a lamb's tail."
I've done it that way ever since. She created the "make everything logical" portion of my OCD, and I have thanked her (and cursed her) ever since. LOL.
Another favorite memory. She used to be on Password often, where she met - and then married - Allen Ludden, the host. Right after they were married, he closed the show by smiling at her and saying, "Let's go home, Mrs. Ludden." And she showed those famous dimples and said, "Okay, Mr. Ludden."
RIP, Betty. Thanks.

Folks, some posters are getting a bit too pointed in their comments about other posters' reactions to the passing of Betty White. EVERYONE is entitled to feel how they feel about it and, as always, we do have a rule about not attacking other posters. Making belittling comments, but not specifically naming posters is not a way to get around that rule. Even if Betty died a "good death," people are still allowed to feel sad about it and wish she'd gotten to that 100 year milestone. Let's start off 2022 with a little less judgment about others, please

I was sad to hear that Betty White passed and only 17 days from her 100th birthday. It was like the world was a better place because Betty White was in it.
I liked that she appeared universality loved, especially in this day and age of 5 second fame on social media.
I loved that people loved and admired her and didn't make mean comments of how old she is.
I loved that people recognized her talent and that just because you are over 40 does not mean you can't contribute and have a meaningful life.
I loved that people appreciated and admired her as a woman of talent and not just boobs and a pretty smile.
Betty White somehow became an icon that a lot of us would like to emulate.
I will miss her insulting Ryan Reynolds.

That is a fabulous idea, AZChristian. I'll bet there are a lot of donations made! Critical: If it was me being pointed about my Betty White comment I apologize. All I meant was that I prefer to celebrate her instead of feeling sad; other people can do what they wish.

I saw a meme that she wanted to celebrate her 100th birthday with her favorite person, Allen. It is also very telling that you can live to be 99 and people think you are gone too soon.

I was at the nail salon waiting for my daughter to get done, scrolling through Facebook. A friend posted a link to a TMZ article. I wanted to think it was wrong but TMZ, as scummy as they are, tend to be right most of the time. I will admit to crying. I never met the woman but she was such a great light. I watch Buzzr all day when working at home, a lot of old game shows and she shows up a lot. She was a wonderful lady. And I am so donating to an animal shelter on her birthday. I believe she would have wanted us to. Of course it will probably be a scaley baby type shelter because I am weird like that. Rest in Peace, Betty. You will be missed.
