Good Bones - when did Karen get a nose ring and why did her dog have a purple head? Loved all the colors, really liked the epoxy kitchen counter. I don't know why she spent all that money on nice wide plank white oak only to put blue fabric dye on it, though...I thought it was pretty as it was and some blue rugs would have given plenty of color. Bath was okay, I guess she went with fiberglass for easier cleaning. So is she just going to visit it occasionally and rent it out, or leave it empty when she's in Indy...? And North Carolina doesn't get to claim the Shag, it originated in Myrtle Beach (South Carolina) in the 30's and is our state dance. In part 1 episode 2, Karen specifically stated she was tired of the Indy winters and wanted to spent them somewhere warm. Lots of folks her age do that if they can afford it. Including the original price for the house plus renovations and special projects she was close to $300,000 on her budget. I still don't get only having 2 extra beds for the 4 grand-kids.
I can see the grand-kids spending summers with her. Makes for a vacation for the parents.
At least with hardwood floors they can always refinish the floors. At least it was a washed pale blue.

Yes, Karen only mentions 5 grand kids. She does not mention if she had any with her son William and she does not mention Mina's.

That is just...childish. Now that the Messy Family is done with their little special, a new season of Bargain Block starts tonight. Looking forward to seeing what the guys come up with this season.

This tracks. The Internet Whisper Network was saying that it was Karen's decision to include Tad on the show (and to increase his screen time) and Mina definitely wasn't down with that since she saw GB as being a mother-daughter thing. Tad also seems to be a bit of a ****stirrer himself. To be honest, I feel badly for all involved.

Tad was immature when the show started but through the years he got serious about the construction trade and now has his own construction business. Do I still think he can be a goof head? Yes, as that is part of his personality, but you can see he did grow up.
However Karen and Mina are not the show producers and it was rather obvious that Tad and his demolition crew added a lot of comic relief to the show and I am sure production encouraged that as it made the show stand out. For myself I thought much of that was rather silly. However they are many episode where both Karen and Mina joined in the demolition spree with bulldozers tearing down porches and additions.
It seemed that Karen was doing a lot of the financials and other stuff and it was too much for Mina to handle after Karen retired.

This feuding between them has turned me off the show. For some years I saw Mina start to cut her mom out. She never gave her the chance to talk if she could help it. I liked Tad, Austin and Corey they were funny. Good comic relief. I wasn't always a fan of Karen's eccentric style but I liked her. I think Mina got to big for her britches.

What puts me off as a viewer is that Karen and Mila have the same deal with Good Bones: New Beginnings that they had with Season 8 on Discovery+ where they waited until the entire season was over to put it on the streamer. This is the ONLY show that HGTV treats in this fashion; stuff Windy City Rehab, Hometown, Christina, etc airs on Discover+ the same day the episodes are released to broadcast every week. By the time I finally got access to Season 8 I was completely over it, and I still don't have the New Beginning episodes.

I wonder why they do that with the Good Bones show? I like to watch on Max the next day - no commercials and I can fast forward through Christina's personal mess - but even they didn't have the new Good Bones shows up. I had to go to Spectrum's clunky OnDemand section to watch.

I had to go to Spectrum's clunky OnDemand section to watch. That's because Max and Discover+ merged. With that said, Discover+ has a lot of shows that Max doesn't have access to, especially the "vault" shows which tends to be the older stuff.

Bargain Block - what cute little houses...with little prices. I wish I could find something like that for so cheap here. I wasn't a fan of the reddish countertop with black backsplash, that was a lot going on at once. Upstairs bedroom was cute. I do wish they had put a railing or did something with the front porch, it looked so bare and unfinished. Glad they kept the rounded front door, too.

The Bargain Block house sold for $160K back in June. I read that they repainted that poo brown bathroom to white. And they put a railing up on the porch, yay. 16157 Woodingham Dr, Detroit, MI 48221

And they put a railing up on the porch, yay. 16157 Woodingham Dr, Detroit, MI 48221Saw pictures of both houses. I prefer the color palette of the one they have yet to do. I get that Keith likes the darker colors but at times his color palettes are bonkers. Why would you do brown walls and black tile in a bathroom. Yes, it looks like poo, even with gold swirls on it.
While the kitchen does have a really nice long countertop the red marble and black tile are too much in that small a space.
I know they used to sell the homes furnished but Keith likes to put too much furniture in those spaces. I know they have a crew helping them style but really does anyone know how to use a tape measure and a steamer?
Note that the other home sold first and for more money and I do think that is due to the more neutral color palette.
Also for the size of the homes they try to do a little landscaping but in all honesty they really don't need to do any flower/mulch beds. The ones in the pictures do not look good. I would just make that all grass and have some pots on the porch. It would look nice and neat and be much easier to maintain.

Bargain Block: Oh my goodness. Such cute lil raggedy houses! I'm going to say this with a lot of love; it would do Keith a lot of good to take a color theory course because when he gets it right it's amazing (the upstairs rooms and especially the bathroom with that amazing cracked shower tile) but when he gets it wrong (the downstairs)... I loved the original fireplace style and really didn't like the the one thy replaced it with, and the kitchen....*sigh* I re-wind and watched the reveal twice and I figured out why I hated it so much and it's the backsplash. The cabinets were medium warm toned, the countertop was a warm chocolate, but then that coal colored backsplash....it was dark on dark, then the light of the cabinets and it just wasn't eyepleasing. It would have gone for a light backsplash. To top it all off, the countertop was heavily veined and fought horribly with the texture of the backsplash. Ugh. The two bathrooms were like night and day because while I loved the one upstairs, the darkness of the downstairs bathroom combined with the paint swirls made it look really "homemade." In contrast, the upstairs was absolutely fabulous and if I didn't know better I would swear two different people worked on this house!

I was blown away how good Keith could be when they did the townhouse on the last Battle on the Block in Florida versus his first Battle of the Block where some was just too specific.
Part of it is he is self taught, but some of his color combinations are cringe. The kitchen for example. If he had gone with a brown or copper colored or reddish clay colored tile it would have been OK. But he totally got it wrong in the down stairs bathroom painting those walls brown. You can do dark on dark but not that way.

I think Keith's thrift shopping will be perfect for New Orleans. Many of these homes lean to having a slightly old fashioned style.
Hopefully a lot of experimentation with color and no black and brown bathrooms.
Tune in to HGTV to see Bargain Block New Orleans Wednesday nights at 9|8c beginning Oct. 9. Stream new episodes the same day and time on discovery+ and Max.

Bargain Block - I'm still laughing over the plaster boob job. "I'll sand them down to B cups." Much better color palette on this one, I liked everything except the goofy coffee filter "flowers" he nailed to the wall and the random chairs he hung on he wall on the dining room. They made a decent profit on this house, too. Listing: 16153 Woodingham Dr, Detroit, MI 48221

Keith tends to put too many pieces in house. There was no need to have chairs on a wall they were just two awkward pieces someone has to walk around. However, in the living room. There were simply too many upholstered chairs. Keith has a tendency to save stuff and he had the one found chair reupholstered. That chair was not needed in that room. The two chairs that were alike needed to be in that corner, with a side table. No one needs 4 side tables in a space that small. They also needed to scoot that sofa over about a foot.
Liked that they showed how they will be going to New Orleans.

Watched episode 5 of the 100 Day Hotel renovation.
I used to like the competition renovation shows but they have deteriorated to absolute crap. I would not call either room a luxury suite.
