Tarek and Christina DID NOT get rid of the cove molding. In the before shots the cove molding is very evident because there is trim or a picture rail where it starts and the cove molding and ceiling are a white while the walls are a green. After the renovation the cove molding is still there but harder for viewers to see because T&C had the trim removed and had the ceiling and walls painted white. The cove molding was never in the kitchen. I'm also watching on my laptop and that might also make a difference because I didn't see the cove molding at all in the "after." We are so talking the cove molding to death. I am watching on a 65 inch TV and it is very hard to see, to the point I paused the screen and double checked but it is still there.

Hometown Season 6 Episode 7 - Campy Cabin Vibes - February 27, 2022
What I don't understand is that the original property was $70,000 and there was a $100,000 renovation budget. There is no addition framing done in the house therefore no additional insulation is added to the house. I don't get they don't add insulation outside or inside and many times they leave the old leaky windows. How is that smart or energy efficient?
They certainly didn't spend any money on a new driveway.
I do appreciate the interior colors of grey greens and grey blues. I did like the kitchen.
My pet peeve with these older homes is that there is usually one bathroom and instead of adding a powder room they just make the one bathroom huge. They still could have increased the original bathroom layout and added a powder room especially with the budget they had.
If this guy is a travel nurse who is looking after his dogs? I have met travel nurses and physical therapists and they are in an area for 3 months and then pop off to their next assignment you don't have time for pets.

Anyone watch Rock the Block last night?
So happy to see it back.
Terrible on names yet. The boys just no to that face behind the stove. Mud room not even close to the door you would come in. Didn’t like the bathroom either. How do you even clean that cement block floor.
The twin girls are going to get on my nerves…lol the blue wasn’t that bad but yes you could get tried of that fast I think. The small bathroom I guess was ok. I can’t remember if they did anything in the small hallway.
The couple that did not do the bathroom and did the pantry ? Wasn’t it roughed in for a bathroom? I didn’t mind the extra storage area they put under the stairs . It didn’t necessarily have to be used for the kitchen. But I was confused because the winning couple had a play room under the stairs connected to their panty. That was a waste just leave it for more storage space.
I did like the winning couples kitchen but didn’t like that old door they picked it looked not finished.

Rock the Block Season 3
This season the competitors will completely transform four identical homes with a $225,000 budget.
The houses are identical at almost 3500 square feet modern Lowcountry style, which means it is long and narrow. There is no backyard with minimal sideyards and a front yard. There is a detached garage which had room above. The main house has the master bedroom on the ground floor, with a the secondary bedrooms on the second floor, with a third floor bonus room. The base value of the homes as they are now is $500,000.

Rock the Block Season 3 Episode 1 - Kitchen - February 28, 2022
None of the teams liked the corner pantry and demoed it. In fact the teams all doubled or tripled the size of the kitchen by eliminating the pantry, and extending cabinetry either along one wall and higher up as the homes all have 10 foot ceilings.
Egypt & Mike - did not change the initial layout of the kitchen and island but eliminating the corner pantry gave the kitchen a nice L shape and allowed for cabinets to extend to the wall on the long side. On the stove side Egypt had a huge cover/vent hood installed with side walls over the stove and it looked good. Her backsplash was a cobblestone veneer which balanced off the white cabinets gave it a farmhouse feel. While I normally do not kike open shelving in a kitchen the one Eqypt had installed against the stone veneer backsplash actually added to the overall look and feel of the kitchen. I think this was my favorite kitchen.
E&M also removed the two sets of French doors and installed a triple sliding door to provide access to the side porch.
E&M put in two pantries, one by removing the powder room. I am not a big fan of removing the powder room, but they said they would put one in later. Considering this is a pretty open concept I don't know where that would be.
Leslie & Lyndsey installed dark blue cabinets. I personally liked the color but the judges felt it might be too specific but understood why as everyone is currently doing grey cabinets. The judges felt the counters were basic. I believe it was a stile stone counter. The ladies added a sweet tea space and kept their powder room. They did change the direction the island went and installed accordion doors instead of the French doors. The ladies were not happy with the judges comments.
Jenny & Dave also changed the direction their island went and used a taupe color cabinet. I did like the color. They also ran base cabinets along the entire back wall of the house and installed two huge windows which just flooded the entire room with light. Jenny did something similar to Egypt with enclosing the stove, but I didn't like it initially as if felt very closed off with no room on either side to put pots and things. They added huge pantry and removed the powder room to create even more pantry and a secret play room for the kids which could be used as safe room if needed. I kinda liked that but the pantry seemed very twisty.
The judges felt the refrigerator may be too far from the stove. They tripled the size of the kitchen, so the work triangle got bigger.
Keith and Evan are going to be the creative wild children of the season. I don't particularly like brown wood cabinets but these looked good. The used marble for the counters. I detest square tiles that are stacked in any backsplash but they used those. I liked that the boys got creative and quirky and used architectural salvage of a fountain as part of the backsplash over the stove and made it a pot filler. It was unique and fun without going over. Sometimes the boys color choices are interesting and not for everyone. The powder room was full of color and texture. The concrete floor tiles with be find as long as they used some sealer.
The judges questioned the peach paint color used on some of the walls. But it is Charleston so bolder color choices are part of the culture.
Jenny and Dave won the Kitchen episode and an additional $1000 to use next episode.

I did like the winning couples kitchen but didn’t like that old door they picked it looked not finished. Yes, very happy to see it back and with all new teams that have not played before. I liked Keith and Evans Face pot filler. It was fun but not too much. Yes the mudroom was awkward but it is a detached garage and you have to haul stuff into the home a ways. Where are you supposed to put it? Blame the architect. Leslie and Lyndsey - like the blue kitchen but I can understand maybe breaking up that much cabinetry and maybe making some of it white, cream or taupe, or wood to break up all that color. They did the powder room. Yes, Eqypt and Mike transformed the powder room to a pantry. As for Jenny and Dave, since their ideal client is a family I do understand why they put a playroom under the stairs. You can use if for storage sure, but for young families I can see the parents would be happy to contain their kids to a small space with only one exit and that is into the kitchen.

Watched Rock the Block and there were elements of each design I liked (with preference given to Egypt and Keith's teams). I like a lot of storage space, which is why Egypt's expanded pantries worked for me. On that same note it was nice that Jenny and Dave utilized that space under the stairs. I also liked that blue kitchen of Leslie's but like Bearcata think that they should have used another color/element to break it up a bit because it was BLUE in there. My absolute favorite was Keith and Evans; I like quirky spaces and WANT that face pot filler and their kitchen design, loved the cabinets that looked the right amount of used and concrete floors are great for kids and animals. It had an industrial-lite look I really liked.

I do watch Keith and Evans show, Bargain Block and totally appreciate the creativity they bring to the show especially with their ability to recycle pieces from their dumpster diving and thrifting adventures. Builders and designers do tend to favor the female half of any couple but I do hear from a lot of men that they like that industrial modern darker materials look and Keith and Evan will be providing that. Keith and Evan will be like Dave Bromstad and Tiffany Brooks of season 2. The color couple who provide a WOW factor but do they really have any chance of winning? I also appreciate Egypt's second pantry. Where the heck are they going to store the vacuum cleaner and all that extra toilet paper and sanitizer? Most homes do not provide any space to store cleaning supplies and these southern homes don't have coat closets. If Leslie and Lyndsey had a smaller kitchen I say blue all the way but all the couples tripled their kitchen space with huge runs of cabinets and that much cabinetry in that strong color is a bit much it needed to be balances with either white, cream, taupe, or wood grain cabinets somewhere in the kitchen.

Hometown: I think Laurel is getting pretty popular because Erin mentioned that the lower priced offerings are getting snatched up pretty quick. Considering how nice the average house in Laurel is I can see that happening. I was a bit confused about the Travel Nurse because he said that he did it for about 7 months and then got homesick for his dogs and came back, but might do it again? Anyway, his family (including his Nana who he is very close to and looked like she had a lot of land?) live in Laurel so I'm assuming that his dogs are more "family dogs" where they stay with family members while he is traveling.
I liked Erin's improvements for both houses but especially liked that smoky grey and wood kitchen in the second house. It looked really good, especially with the backsplash; I like a dark kitchen sometimes and that one was done right. He picked the first house which was a cute little cottage, and it looked really good with the sage/dark green trim on the outside of the house. They really lucked out with the pristine shiplap they found underneath that ugly paneling in the living and dining room because it was really warm and masculine feeling, and combined with the green bookshelves in the dining room was quite stunning. The kitchen was amazing; on my computer monitor the cabinets were a greenish-grey that was really pretty, and I loved that steel and wooden table they found on the Nana's property and converted into the kitchen island. I liked the bathroom; this is a single man living by himself and he really doesn't need another bathroom. I would have liked to have seen the bedrooms too but they didn't show them. Overall, I loved his little house.

When you are entertaining that much it is good to have a second bathroom in this case a small powder room in addition to the main bathroom. They had the plumping and the room.

That might also be why both Erin and Ben tried to subtly sell him on the second house since it had two bathrooms. Ben even said something like "If you're hosting Chili Nights you're gonna want more than one bathroom!"

Rock the Block…
Well guys house is definitely different. Not my style at all. It looked to old to me. Our house was sponge painted when we bought it but knew we could paint over it this was 26 years ago. Didn’t like the light either.
The twins was better because they had colour in the room . Wonder what colour they should have painted the fireplace? Black maybe. Wet bar wouldn’t be a selling point for me or the map wall paper.
Winning couple from last week, loved the powder room wall paper and wainscotting. The mud room type thing fell flat. Maybe because the door on the closet looked small and the door was just flat . They went for a old door for the pantry.
The right couple won. I would love the attached garage and that was a mudd room. They living room fell flat to me though
Unless they are putting a screened porch there I don’t like the French doors. I think it doesn’t have curb appeal with all doors in a row out front. 2 living room were pretty well the same.
When they were showing the new hall way was there stairs to go upstairs? We haven’t really saw the stairs yet other than in the floor plan and pantry under it.

Rock the Block:
Living rooms and foyers were on the design list of the week, and there were a lot of similarities in what the teams did. Everyone opted for a fireplace on the wall with the rectangular windows, with shelved built-ins on either side. I think 3 out of the four teams opted for beams on the living room ceilings, and 2 of the teams opted for big French doors to the porch as opposed to the two big windows. With that said, there were a lot of differences that were really nice.
Jenny and Dave: This is an easy-breezy beachside vibe; very comfortable. This is the team for someone with some design taste that at the same time doesn't want anything too crazy. A lot of taupe, sand, and beige, but somehow clean and inviting instead of boring. I wasn't a fan of the mudroom; too small and in an odd corner.
Egypt and Mike: Like Jenny and Dave, this team is old hat at pulling a room together and giving them added value. Bumping out the side of the house to accomodate a hallway from the garage to the new mudroom to the side of the kitchen was ingenious and added a lot of value at a relatively small cost. This episode my fav HGTV lady Jasmine was judging the living rooms and she pointed out that while it was beautiful it would have been a better idea to paint the ceiling beams the same color as the windows because they would have popped more and I agree. Overall, their living room was very lovely, plus they added a powder room.
Leslie and Lyndsey: I like them on "Unsellable Houses." I do not like them on this show and a lot of it has to do with the "We're going to win, we should win, we deserve to win this, blahblahblah" attitude they have. On these type of shows there's always one team obsessed with winning and I guess they are it. On the first show they announced that they were a multimillion dollar company and everyone will underestimate them to the end but they were going win anyway and it looked like playful boasting; however, repeating all of that this week left a nasty taste. With that said; their living room was interesting; I have never heard of a spirit trap inside the foyer of a house before and I respect that they did a little research on NC's quirkier housing things. I think a spirit would get lost looking at the maps that acted as wallpaper in the foyer. They also used one side of the fireplace as a bar instead of having two symmetrical areas on either side of the fireplace and it looked uneven, but kinda cool at the same time?
Keith and Evans: When they said they were going to replace the rectangular windows with round ones I thought "Oh noes!" Fortunately they made the windows big enough that they read as windows and not like portholes. I liked the inserts on both sides of the fireplace that housed firewood, and the shape of the couch and other furniture in the room combined with the colors they used made their living room looked very comfortable and inviting. I'm very biased towards this team because based on the two shows if I had to move to a development where all the housing were similar I would go for the house that looked the least like everyone else.
Winner: Egypt and Mike (for good reasons).

Winner: Egypt and Mike (for good reasons). Season 3 Episode 2 - Living Rooms and Foyers - March 7, 2022 I really was wondering where the two teams that eliminated the powder rooms would place them. In the floor plans they showed in episode one there did not seem to be any place to put one except the foyer area. Did you notice that both Dave and Jenny and Egypt and Mike put their powder rooms in the same place and Jasmine Roth criticized Dave and Jen for putting the powder room too close to the kitchen but did not do the same with E&M. The placement of powder rooms drives me crazy, there are only so many places to put one and complaining about it being too close to the kitchen is ridiculous. The original placement of the PR was behind the kitchen, now for two of the teams it is off the foyer and living room. Deal with it. Regarding the twins attitude. Let's face it in reality shows the producer and editors need as storyline and they repeat it ad nauseum for the entire season, I don't take it to heart, in fact it is a tad boring when they do it. J&D, I loved the light and airy feel of the living room, it did seem a bit sparse. I feels very beach cottage and the beach and ocean just outside. I do think the placement of the armchairs in the living room is awkward, the room feels unfinished in regards to seating. E&M, know how do to luxurious. Connecting the house to the garage was brilliant and added square footage. If you noticed there was a stairway in the hallway, I think it goes to the room over the garage. However if you ever wanted to use that room over the garage as a rental it does not have separate access. I do agree with Jasmine's critique that painting the beams the same taupe/beige as the French doors would have made them pop. K&E, made the room cozy and comfortable and when looking at both the living room and kitchen it makes sense. They are going for dark and comfortable vs the light and airy of other teams but I can see that one buyer coming and just saying yes. Screams gentleman's smoking lounge and old money. L&L, I do like their eclectic bohemian style and liked the charm of the rooms. I didn't like the tile work behind the bar, it would have been better with one color. I liked the white fireplace. They already had a feature wall of green and the fireplace wall was white, what color could you paint the fireplace? Black? Green? Blue like the kitchen cabinets? There was already a lot of color in that room I don't think they needed anymore. I didn't particularly like the maps, the wall treatment seemed unfinished. The story was good, the execution not so much.

I liked everything about this renovation. It was great that they found that gorgeous shiplap ceiling when they opened up the ceiling to try to get a bit more height. One little quibble is putting sheet vinyl in the ADA compliant bathroom that was going to be used by the public. Wouldn't tiling be easier to clean? I think sheet vinyl would be fine for home use but would have preferred tile. It was a shame that they had to cut down those sweet olive trees, but I guess they had no choice. I was just a bit confused about the bedroom refresh and en suite bath. Erin talked about one day perhaps, being able to have an on-site manager for the company live on the premises. I mean, I guess that's an idea, but would anyone honestly want to just have a bedroom and bath? The rest of the house was dedicated to merchandise and a tasting room. It's not like there were separate living quarters for a manager.

The original house has a staircase to the second floor but it is behind the kitchen.

I love the show Rock the Block but I hate these houses! The garage at a right angle in front of the house drives me crazy. I can tell it will be difficult to get a car into the garage closest to the house. The couple who created a hallway to attach the house to the garage were brilliant. Who wants to haul groceries from the car to the house and deal with heat, bugs, humidity, rain, wind. The builder should have thought of that.
The houses look too close together. Do the French doors open to the side yard of the house next door?
The location looks swampy and flood prone. That’s just my opinion from seeing the overhead shots of the neighborhood.
Hopefully the teams will add personality and privacy to the exteriors.

The houses design is loosely based on the Charleston Low Country style where the houses are long and narrow but there were side yards that in the city and where more courtyard. When they do the overhead shots of the development you can really see that. All the entertaining will be done in the side yard and privacy with be had on three sides, to the back is the canal and palm trees, to the left side is the house and side porch, to the front is the garage, on the right side of the side yard is the kitchen wall of the next house which will need a wall or some plantings. I too do not like the driveway layout.

Rock the Block - I wish I'd known they were filming in Summerville, I would have driven down and snooped! So far I'm liking what Jenny/Dave and Egypt/Mike are doing. I don't dislike Keith and Evan's style, but it's not really my thing. Leslie and Lyndsey annoy me, I didn't like the messy maps on the wall (paint the porch ceiling and front door haint blue to ward off spirits!), and I didn't care for the wet bar and the tile behind it. And I don't know anyone who has a sweet tea station, we just keep a fresh pitcher in the fridge at all times.

I did like the signage they had made for the front of the farm. I do like watching skilled craftspeople do their work. I did like the overall color palette based on tea, and yes it fell right into Erin's color palette. But in this case it worked. The colors in all of the rooms was nice and tranquil. Luv'ed what they did in the kitchen and luv'ed the dark green tea color of the kitchen cabinets, they looked more a very dark grey on my TV screen but in this case I really liked the dark color. Ben's tables both indoors and out looked great. I do appreciate the outdoor event space they created and that they were able to save those full size camella's, they looked gorgeous. Overall for a small house, a 2 bedroom and 2 bath house Erin and Ben managed to make the entire property very spacious. Glad to see the one bedroom and bathroom saved, but if there was an onsite manager to run the business would it be a problem using the kitchen for personal meals, and is the bedroom large enough to escape the work functions and relax in? I have mentioned before that on these older homes there does not seem to be much insulation and I don't see Erin and Ben adding very much. This was very apparent when they install the new French doors leading to the outdoor event space. The workers cut open the wall and you could see that it was only the outside wood wall, the framing, and them the inside wall, no insulation. In such a hot environment don't you need insulation to keep the heat out and keep the AC inside?

mmmmm...... a sweet tea station, a wet bar ....that is a lot of extra plumbing and does it necessarily add that much value to the home? Not to me it doesn't! I always thought wet bars were kind of outdated anyway, unless you've got a big man cave/party room going on. Plus I don't like how it made that fireplace wall all asymmetrical.

Asymmetrical I could live with, it was that awful black and white tile that made me gag. Then I think Jasmine looked at E&M's living room next and it looked so luxurious compared to the ugly black and white tile backsplash that it was obvious who won that leg. I do think E&M and K&E did the best jobs in the living rooms its just the esthetics are so different.

That's because in older homes they used horsehair for insulation and soundproofing, and renovators tend to yank that out and not replace it with anything so you feel breezes from time to time and can hear your downstairs neighbors. That's what happened to our building, unfortunately. Also, some of the older houses are built in such a way that either its nigh impossible to add insulation without tearing down walls in every room or adding the expensive thin spray foam.

Wow, I kind of AM shocked by that, I thought the show was still pretty popular. And yes, they were finally getting along and using colors and tile I liked, so of course they end the show now. Like last night, I loved the tile in the kitchen, the cabinet colors, bathrooms...I just didn't like the green on the exterior, it looked almost like a military green.

Like last night, I loved the tile in the kitchen, the cabinet colors, bathrooms...I just didn't like the green on the exterior, it looked almost like a military green. But the green hex tile in the one bathroom was very nice as was the kitchen backsplash tile, the textured grey hex. They have also been using a lot of 3D large format tiles in the bathrooms and at times on the fireplaces which I really like. I also like the color of the kitchen cabinets it was some kind of variety of grey with little streaks of a darker grey. As for the house color, at least it wasn't grey with white trim or white with black trim, it's nice when they try to change it up a bit. Now we are stuck with Christina on the Coast and Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa.

Hometown Season 6 Episode 10 - Wraparound Porch - March 13, 2022
I must say I was very impressed with how this couple looked. Early to mid 40's both fit and trim and their skin was impeccable.
This was a typical build for Ben and Erin but on a large scale with the house being 3500 sq ft. I do wonder if anyone has lived in it since the last owners as Ben said they lived there until the 80's.
Erin kept the color palette to restrained neutrals with taupes, soft sage greens, and cream whites.
As always this builds seem part restoration and renovations. The house had some lovely trim.
Can anyone explain why you would install a refrigeration at a diagonal to a corner? Makes not sense to me.
I do think the wet room was the star of this episode but even with the huge rain shower over the bath and another separate shower I don't understand why they did not install a hand held device, it is so useful.
Liked the faux vinyl grass cloth wallpaper, it did look very nice.
I am not a fan of brick backsplashes but it suited the look the owners wanted.
I do hope the owners get to enjoy the house with their future grandbabies and family.
