I know, which is why I said I didn't blame N&J for that. It's good that the owner got what she wanted, but it makes for boring watching. I remember an episode of a show that aired long ago on HGTV and it had a Brit designer and he was redoing a flat (apartment/condo) for a female client in London I believe. The client wanted her flat to be peaceful and serene and it was very neutral and lots and lots of white. It was not boring. Lots and lots of texture, different materials, different tones of color. I wanted that flat it looked like this cozy little nest that you wanted to snuggle into. I was not a fan of white until I saw this episode and it showed what a white palette can be if done correctly. The Nate and Jeremiah episode was NOT a good example of an all white palette. Good point, Bearcata! All white doesn't have to be boring, because of those different textures, materials and tones that you referred to! In this house, I don't think Nate and Jeremiah's white design was up to their best level (but I was delighted that the homeowners loved it).

I noticed no new El-Moussa show this week. I'm seeing a lot of criticism leveled at this show from HGTV viewers, etc; apparently not a lot of people like it and they haven't been shy about letting HGTV know it. I wonder if they only shot three shows to gauge viewer attention or if they actually pulled it after all of the complaints.

Heck I backed away ...... far away and I live here and I like seeing all the Southern California cities Tarek works in. But nope

For me, it's not her presence but the way Tarek treats her that really bugs. You can tell he doesn't respect the women in his life and it shows. I picked up on this dynamic with Christina on Flip or Flop (which was one of many reasons why I didn't watch the show) and he's repeating it with Heather which shows me Christina wasn't the problem in that relationship. In the last episode Heather was chiming in on what the house should be priced at and she disagreed with Tarek because of her experience and he said "I hate to say it, but you're right" not once, but TWICE. Um, Heather was doing this for longer than she's known you, stop trying to undermine her!
I never thought that I would say this, but I am so glad that Christina is free of this man with her shrill voiced, toad-licking self because she is THRIVING. That man constantly held her back with his words and the way he treated her and she is free now. While I can say that her design isn't my cup of tea she's not a bad designer, and has people lined up to give their spaces the "Christina touch." Good for her.

There was always a competitive "poke" "poke" vibe between Christina and Tarek. Tarek toward the end got very arrogant and very "I have to crush her spirit and totally demoralize her" vibe. In Tarek 101 and the specials Tarek behaved very differently toward Heather. I think maybe production may be trying to recreate that tension between Tarek and Heather that Tarek had with Christina. Heather is not acting like herself she is trying to act like Christina and is doing a terrible job. This is a serious mistake on productions part.

Quite frankly I think his shows have been struggling for viewership since the original Flip and Flop ended.
Yes he and Christina always bantered back and forth. But it was not annoying. It would last a few minutes.
Heather is trying way to hard to make their show work and its NOT. JMHO.
It not like I miss Christina as she has her own show I will watch from time to time.
The thing I have find most annoying is how PERSONAL the show is with the new wife.
When it was Tarek and Christina we rarely heard them discuss anything personal.
Maybe a random, I need to get a sitter for the kids and I will meet you at the house.
But GAWD Tarek and Heather ..... does nothing for me. Again. MHO.

I've noticed that when Heather squeals at a bug or prances about the muck in designer shoes, Tarek grins and acts like it's adorable. When Christina did it, he huffed and rolled his eyes. There's also way too much PDA with these two, too much personal crap. Look at our ultrasound, look at us kissing and saying "babe" way too much, look at my huge ring, look at our dog eat the rug, LOOK!
I thought this woman was an experienced realtor, but she acts shocked when she hears about closing costs or anything else to do with the business end. Is it an act, and why would she agree to act dumb?
I don't even care if this one comes back, I watch the flip shows for color/design ideas. I'm not really getting that from this show.

I don't watch them. If a commercial comes on with them in it I turn it fast. Her voice drives me nuts. It's a blonde ditsy voice. I watch very little HGTV anymore. It is so repetitious.

I don't watch them. If a commercial comes on with them in it I turn it fast. Her voice drives me nuts. It's a blonde ditsy voice. I watch very little HGTV anymore. It is so repetitious. I needed a mental break from HGTV and from all the talking heads on the news platforms and the politicians and local news and I ended up on YouTube listening to all this transgender stuff and the left and rights name calling and name bashing. It had to STOP. I keep up with Married To Real Estate with Egypt Sherrod as so much of the show is house renovation and design. I like the relationship between wife and husband you can see they respect each other, they like each other, but they are also professionals, have a design team, and it shows Egypt doing some of the work. At times I am really amazed at the transformations and the colors they use. I also watch Nate and Jeremiah. I used to turn off the TV when Nate and Jeremiah came on especially when they were in California but now I watch. I like the concept of the show and how they do the design work. I like how they respect the families and how they talk about design. I am watching Rock The Block, but am not impressed with the season. That's it. Three shows and Married to Real Estate just finished their season and RTB is halfway through theirs. Watching the Flipping El Moussa's is like a toxic MIND BOMB and I don't need that in my life. HGTV did a decent job with Flipping 101 and the Tarek and Heather specials. Yes, Heather is a clone of Christina. The Fake Heather on TFEMs is just bad acting and a terrible idea with terrible execution. Many times I don't like a show and I am in the minority. Glad to see I am not the only one who cringes at TFEMs.

Both of them seem like they're hellbent on "proving" something to someone, and unfortunately we know who it is too.
I'm very wary of people in general who go all out with showing how "fantastic" their relationships are. It's like those couples on FB who are constantly posting about their "DH" or "DW" when you know they just cursed each other out that morning and someone's cheating, lol.

Rock the Block:
I agree with the winners. Loved the bar with the brick and bar cooler. The bunk room was cool but would want to make those upper beds. That pool table looked small but at least it was useful room. I would love the arcade games. They had a full bathroom too a plus but didn’t like the wood front give me storage.
Do these houses come with the furniture?
The boys: hated the powder room. The toilet looked skinny? …lol and orange isn’t for me . Should have done a pocket door too.you would take someone out if they were going to their secret room . Their basement was full of couches so another room with just a couch seemed weird to me. Another whole kitchen with a big range seems a waste to me. Who is cleaning and stocking all these kitchens. They too have wine out in the light.
Paige and Mitch: didn’t like the green kitchen and no to the swings. When they sat on them they looked low to the counter and could bump your knees on the counter . They didn’t do a bathroom at all . That little office was just a no. The kids slide bed ok not that exciting for kids to want to be down there. There tv was off centre just like the fireplace upstairs.
Sarah and Bryan: I thought yes a gym but it wasn’t that exciting, who needs 2 massage tables? Who is giving you the massage? Nice big shower but did they have a sink or toilet there. That tub room was just weird. How do you get in and out of it. Tried to see if there was stairs in. Than who is just going to sit on those loungers. It’s not a pool outside.
Where was the big tv’s if there is no theatre room? Maybe they’re not in anymore? Where was the comfy couches ? Those stairs look scary coming down they need a runnner in the middle. Just watching them come down the stairs was scary.

Rock The Block Season 4 Episode 4 - The Basement - March 27, 2023
What are these houses, 5000 sq ft or so. Who needs all this space? Who needs a kitchen, then a prep kitchen, and another kitchen downstairs and two of the three kitchens do not have dishwashers. Who needs all these couches and seating areas. Who are these people that entertain, that host parties? I notice that HGTV only casts people for House Hunters or their renovation shows that "LOVE TO ENTERTAIN". Well what about the other 99.9% of us who DON'T LOVE TO ENTERTAIN, that don't want people at our homes, that come home to get away from the madness outside, that want and need a sanctuary a nest to cuddle and burrow into to reset our energy to safeguard our mental, spiritual, and physical health, to make dinner and reconnect with the significant other and the kids and furbabies, or just have a calm, peaceful spot for yourself.
I want storage. I do not want to dump all my stuff into a garage. Garages are to protect your car, your lawn stuff, your snow removal stuff, your outdoor sports equipment and if so inclined your workshop. Your garage is not the family dumping ground. Where is the storage in the basement? Where is the storage for stuff in the house. There is NONE. That is so STUPID.
Bryan and Sarah: Calm and serene, modern contemporary, well built, functional. Execution flawless.
Smoothie bar. Hope you have a mini dishwasher in that smoothie bar else you are trapsing up and down stairs with cups and blenders to get them clean.
Like the gym wish there was more equipment. Who needs a separate massage room. Where is the masseur? Locked in a closet? Didn't mind the big shower but it seemed as if half the space was given over to this wellness space. Liked the sauna. Liked the wellness bath but like others I wonder how you get in and out of it. I truly can see a gym area in the house but would have a cable tower in there, and a bike and or elliptical machine as well. I think you it would have been better to half the space and get rid of the massage space, keep the sauna, the shower, and therapy pool, although I would have put in an endless pool that has therapy features in it.
Michelle and Andre:
The kitchen was very nice. The speakeasy was nice. The boys are not afraid of color. They decorate the walls and do give their spaces a nice feel. I would hate to be these people's neighbor as I would be calling the police all the time for all the parties and noise these two would be making and taking up all the parking in the neighborhood, and their guests leaving trash all over the neighborhood. But who needs all these couches. Who is doing all the cleaning? I hope the boys put in a good filtration system into the speak easy else it will stink of cigar smoke.
No full bathroom downstairs? Felt like a missed opportunity.
Paige and Mitch:
This team does like it's white walls, put in a golf room but notice the room really is a blank white box with some stuff in it.
The kitchen is nice but the swings are a big NO. They are too low and too far away from the counter. STUPID.
Jonathan and The Short One:
Maybe the most traditional but with the bar area and arcade machines that would be a hit for many people. But no dishwasher for the glasses. You only need a small one. The icemaker I am not sure about but they needed a small frig for all the cocktail extras, maybe appetizers etc... Is there a microwave or toaster oven?
Pool room, I can see the kids and adults using that. I would have put a TV in there or more than one. Maybe three for those big Football or basketball weekends.
Only ones who put in sleeping quarters in their basement with a full bathroom attached.
Was there a full kitchen down here I am honestly forgetting if there was.
Summary:
The hosts and judges always harp about value added and most of that comes in the form of bedrooms and bathrooms.
For all of the space I would put in a storage room for all the clutter that comes with life possibly behind a hidden door and can act like safe room.
Put in an extra bedroom and bathroom. Use that room as an office if needed. Or rent it out.
For a space that large it may also need a powder room.
Yes put in an entertainment space with a bar and or mini kitchen with a dishwasher if you are binging, or for big events.
Yes put in a gym, sauna, and endless pool maybe in an indoor/outdoor area. Many therapy pools are quite small and have treadmills, bikes, and endless swimming features and are above ground with stairs to get in and out very easily.

I agree with the winner this week also, there was something there for everyone in the family. Pool table, arcade games, a little snack/drink bar, a bathroom and extra (cute!) beds if needed. Good job. Michel and Anthony - loved that tambour trim on the wall, but the rest just didn't appeal to me. I have no use for yet another kitchen and seating for 50 people. Powder room was kind of blah. Page and Mitch - and another kitchen. Those silly swing seats would have to go, all I could picture was kids launching off the cabinets with their feet, scuffing the paint all up. Nope. Golf isn't an interest of mine so that stuff wasn't appealing. Bryan and Sarah - loved the workout room (needs more equipment!) and the sauna, but the pool and massage tables were a waste of space. I don't have a personal masseuse on call to come to my house. Smoothie bar was nice, as was the overall vibe of the rooms.

A cable tower, a decent set of dumbbells, a bench with some kind of cardio machine is the minimal requirement needed.

Why in the world would you spend tens of thousands of dollars on workout equipment for staging when that money could be used elsewhere?

Why in the world would you spend tens of thousands of dollars on workout equipment for staging when that money could be used elsewhere? You are renting not buying it does not cost that much. You can purchase a decent cable tower for $2 - 3000.

Rock the Block:
I've concluded after watching this week's episode that I'm just not the demographic for this season, and that's fine. Looking at housing higher than your paygrade on Zillow is fun; however this show is not, and it's not an envy thing it's a "why is this necessary" thing. It's a 5000 square foot home, plus an additional 1500 feet walkout basement. that's 6500 feet of house. Also, one house now has three kitchens? A massage room? a golfing area when there's a golf course down the street? Who is this for? We're literally going through a housing crisis in this country and HGTV is touting 6500 ft houses at us? That's kinda...it's like, read the room!
Thank goodness for Jonathan and his partner in crime because they created a space that everyone in the family could use and have fun. They also added a huge sleeping area for guests and a big bathroom. You can easily imagine that house as the "family house" where everyone stays at for holidays, family reunions, etc because everyone can stay there and it's great. I also really liked Michele and Anthony's chill out room because it was cozy and relaxing.

The Flipping El Moussas - Heather takes on her very first flip this episode all by herself ( ), which basically meant she brought in Jeff to handle the heavy stuff and hired a fancy designer to have - you guessed it - white and gray shakers, light colored LVP flooring, and basic white subway tile installed. Heather pretty much cackled and pointed to stuff, she added nothing to the design. The kitchen island looked like it was in a weird spot and they did the black wall with wood strips thing that I don't love. For hiring an expensive designer, the house was pretty unremarkable. And about 20 minutes of the show was spent on more PDA, a stupid gender reveal, and the dog chewing on a pillow. Twitter comments are still overwhelmingly negative.

El Moussa Mess:
Hmmm. This episode had glimmers of gold with unfortunately a LOT of tin mixed in, and a good part of the problem is a) all of the extra "family life" stuff, and b)the fact that Tarek is trying to jam Heather into playing a part that she doesn't actually fit.
Heather shines when she's in her element (ie: talking about the desirable qualities of the neighborhoods, what elements in a home have the most value for that area, how much you should charge, etc). Instead of utilizing those skills this show is trying to make her more of a designer, and that's not where her skillset is at. I loved towards the end when she was talking about how much they bought the home for and the money they put in it, how that related to the neighborhood, and how much they would be able to sell it for because she sounded so much more confident and sure of herself. She was even able to get a buyer in before the house went on the market and finagled a deal that paid off handsomely for them. How much of her design skills are dictated by the "clean slate" approach to appealing to potential buyers I'm not sure because I see A LOT of homes for sale with the black iron staircases, white kitchens, subway tile bathrooms, etc. They are trying to attract as many buyers as possible, so I can't get mad at her for that but it makes for a boring house and even more boring TV. With the exception of the weird placement of the island the kitchen was really cute and I liked some of the other design elements like the wood strips but overall it's a flip. The problem arises when they have 2 million dollar "special properties" like the MCM home but treat them like a $400k flip; you can't do that because the market for those types of properties is different and need more care.
This show needs a renovation. I would start by:
a) getting rid of all the pda and family stuff cause no one cares, and
b) instead of trying to make this show into "Flip or Flop 2.0: Now with Family!" play to Heather's strengths. She's also good at organizing things so instead of trying to make her a designer let the designer do their job and let her orchestrate what needs to be done, kind of like a ringmaster. I would also play up her marketing skills and experience with real estate more instead of just at the end.

Clone Two is not a designer and does not show any interest in becoming one. I have seen Tarek select flooring, cabinets, etc... for flips and he does a good job. Tarek had a very nice house after he and Christina divorced. He did another one with a black, white, and gold palette in Flipping 101, the shows did show his relationship with Clone Two but it was not over done. Again they built another home for themselves with the black, white and gold palette and it was nice. The renovations for the homes in this series are horrid. I don't even understand why they are hiring an outside designer as they have in house ones. Design is not just about picking out samples, it's ordering items, tracking them, it includes lights, appliances etc... It is a lot of work. Clone Two is still on Selling Sunset? and pregnant? She does not have time to "fake design" anything. Glad to hear that the reviews are still bad.

Another issue is they want to renovate luxury properties but still have a flip mentality and it really showed with the first two properties they renovated. I may have some quibbles with "Rock the Block" but I can honestly say all of those designers know they are renovating multi-million dollar properties and it shows in their work.

Tarek is pushing back on all the fans who do not like the new show and he keeps stating what a talented designer Heather is.
Heather is not a designer.
She does not want to be.
Heather knows real estate and already works for a real estate agency that does million dollar properties.
The Selling Sunset homes are WOW, The Flipping El Moussa's million dollar properties look like shacks.
To call the El Moussa properties high end and lux is a stretch and you need botox in your face so it doesn't move when you lie so much to yourself and the audience.

Rock the Block The outside spaces - April 4, 2023
Bryan & Sarah: The overall look from front and back of the house looks very interesting and it fits the site and the area. I understand why they won this week. Luv how the judges LUV'ed the two face fireplace on the main deck that the week 1 judges hated because it blocked the view.
Page & Mitch: Seriously some of the cons are ridiculous, with the judge complaining about the seating by the outdoor fireplace when there so many other options to sit down.
Jonathan & Kristina: First the judges didn't like the look of the house as it was black but later they liked it because of all the textures.
Michel & Antony: didn't like all the materials because they looked manufactured, as opposed to all of the manufactured stacked stone the other teams were using? I like that this team is into using recycled items that cut down costs and it looks fine. I will never have real wood windows or pressure treated fences or decks the maintenance on natural materials is a pain. Hated that two faced stone fireplace they put in on the bottom deck as it TOTALLY BLOCKED THE VIEW.
Summary: How many fireplaces can one house have? How many kitchens and outdoor cooking spaces. Thankfully they did not ask for outdoor potties.
Overall all the teams came up with some very nice landscape designs, using a lot of rocks instead of just grass especially near the house. Several of the teams like Page & Mitch and Bryan & Sarah used plants to create natural screening from the neighbors.
I hope they are not planning on building any homes behind this development else those sight lines to the mountains and lake will be ruined.

Rock the Block:
Bryan and Sarah: glad they finally won something and really did like their outside spaces mins those posts. Thing is they will not be easy to remove either because they will be cemented in there. When you at that red stone semi circle it look cool but now thinking about it the fire pit was far from the sitting to roast your marshmallows. Love , a swing. Almost forgot the stone with the house number was nice too. Still don’t like they don’t have a double door on the front. Every time someone opens that single door it looks like a huge space my cat would get out…it is always behind the door when we get home.
The Boys: that high fireplace know that was a big mistake. Their upstairs deck was done nice. That house has a lot of couches in and out…lol Didn’t like their screen at the side of the house. Not sitting on rocks to watch a movie. Plus wasn’t into the living garden / no rock wall on the other side. It is an eye sore to me on the side of the house.
Paige and Mitch: I really liked the path down the side of the house. Their fireplace looked like an afterthought with the two chairs right in front of it. I did love the didn’t have a black top piece on the railing. I had to look twice to see if the was glass there. So when sitting you can see the view. Did not like there built in grill either maybe it was the stone they used. The ski chairs were ugly to me but have seen them before.
Jonathan and Christina: really liked their top deck I’m glad too they didn’t do that porcelain on the fireplace. I think if they put that bar seating where they said people would be able to get around that corner. Like I said have a cat first thing I thought was huge litter box . They can alway put soil in there and plant a garden.
The outside of most of the houses were the same. Did like the ones that used stone around trees . The boys were the only ones that added colour flowers but it was snowing so really not the season for bright flowers.
Next week is garage and den. Where is the Den? Above the garage I guess. More couches lol. Did notice they have a big garage door facing the back of the house. Weird because all the houses have a big hill going down to the yard.

I could not imagine sitting on those Adirondack chairs with the skis as wouldn't your head bang into the turned up pointy ends? I can see Bryan winning the garage portion for the next week but let's face it no one has any money left and what will the do? As you said put a couch and a kitchenette in and maybe a porta-potty. As for the Boys, they created grassy terraces to sit on to watch the movie. I personally do not want to be sitting on grass outside to watch a movie when I have a perfectly good movie theatre in my 5000 sq ft home in the additional 1500 sq ft walk out basement where I can go to another room called a speak easy to drink some whiskey to erase the mess of this season, hidden behind a secret door. Anyone else getting tired of this giant Wayfair commercial?

Rock the Block - the exteriors were all pretty good (except for the fireplace that blocked the view), but I did like Bryan and Sarah's the best with the wood and stone. The posts were kind of goofy, but maybe you could put solar lights or flower pots on some of them. It does feel like an hour long Wayfair ad. Thankfully the finale is next week...
