Sandro's while visually stunning, was mostly molded chocolate.

Season 13 Episode 6 - "Halloween" - air date October 18, 2022 Signature: Apple Cake - 2 hours Technical: S'mores - 2 hours Showstopper: Edible Hanging Halloween Piñata Lantern - 4 hours Baker | Signature | Technical | Showstopper | Abdul | Bonfire Cake | 7th | Witch's Lantern | Dawn | 'Ukrainian Sharlotka' | 5th | 'A Cat In A Fancy Hat' | Janusz | "Mum's Apple Cake" | 2nd | 'Halloween Horror Movie Popcorn' | Kevin | 'Apple-Bobbing' | 3rd | 'Arachna-FOMO' | Maxy | Classic Apple & Walnut Cake | 6th | 'Spoooooky' | Sandro | Creepy Apple Crumble Cake | 4th | 'Dead Disco Ball' | Syabira | 'Witch Apple' | 1st | 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' |
Star Baker: Syabira Eliminated: Dawn Halloween? The Brits do Halloween? Cute costumes. Dawn being eliminated was a bit predictable. Wow, Syabira bounced back. Double WOW! Two Handshakes and both recipients were ladies (Syabira and Maxy). A little sad that all the bakers didn't do Wow signature apple cakes as they have the brief for the signature and can practice the week before they come back. Or are they still in a quarantine bubble? I don't think so. However between episodes they do have several days to practice the signatures. Wow. Janusz's Showstopper really looked like a popcorn box. Both Syabira and Janusz can be incredibly neat with their bakes. Maxy is up there. Sandro can be a bit messy but he also has decent presentations. Lets face it his skull globe was fantastic. FOMO: Not quite sure why Kevin named his showstopper 'Arachna-FOMO'.

Season 13 Episode 7 - "Custard" - air date October 25, 2022 Signature: (Floating Islands) Technical: (Pistachio and Praline Ice Cream) Showstopper: (Custard Gateau) Baker | Signature | Technical | Showstopper | Abdul | Cherry, Orange & Pistachio Floating Islands | 4th | Peach & Raspberry Mille-feuille | Janusz | "Morning Vanilla Latte" Floating Islands | 5th | ‘Neapolitan’ | Kevin | "Everything Coming Up Roses" Floating Islands | 3rd | ‘My Honey Valentine’ | Maxy | "Blueberry Lagoon" Floating Islands | 2nd | ‘The Promised Land’ | Sandro | Cherry, Almond & Hazelnut Floating Island | 1st | ‘Tribute to a Friend’ | Syabira | Mojito Floating Islands | 6th | ‘Piña Coladas Anyone?’ |
Star Baker: Syabira Eliminated: Kevin So scared that Janusz would be eliminated this week. It's down to six (6) bakers and one small mistake could send anyone home. This week you really must "Stay Calm and Carry On". You can't let one bad bake make you lose focus or make you beat yourself up, it really is a matter of "Let It Go" and focus on the now. With so many disasters and near misses it was a tense episode. I hope someone can answer this. There is a crucial decision on methodology that hurt several bakers in the technical. Do refrigerators work differently in the UK than they do the USA? Will putting custard to cool and set in the freezer instead of the frig really raise the temperature in the freezer affecting its ability to cool custard later because the temperature had been raised? Next week is the quarter finals. I know who I would want to see in the top three but stuff happens. Right now I hope to see Janusz, Syabira, and either Sandro or Maxy in the top three. I just hope I didn't jinx anything. BTW I luv'ed how three of the bakers came to Kevin's aid to help him finish his gateau, that is the spirit of the GBBO and why I watch.

Agreed, this was a very stressful episode. I really believe they looked at overall performance vs the weekly output because Janusz's Showstopper was terrible and he was 5th in the technicals; I was quite scared for him.

Poor Kevin, he just couldn't get it all together. I'll miss his accent! And it was so sweet when everyone hopped in to help him finish.
Janusz had a bad week...wallpaper paste? Yikes. Hopefully it was just a one-off, he's been in my top three since the beginning.

The narrator commented that the first cool off period for the custard needed to be in the frig and when the need to set it then they put it in the freezer. The food judges judge based on: When the judging ends in almost a tie both Paul and Prue state that is when they look at the bakers overall work from past bakes. Every time the judges the judges do this they are transparent about it and say that is what they did. That statement was not made in this episode.

The judges got it wrong this week. Janusz should have gone home. Janusz's Signature Vanilla Latte is what saved him. They were relatively on par in the technical. In the showstopper Kevin's had issues with the appearance and execution of his gateau while it tasted great. OTOH Janusz's showstopper had a great appearance, the execution was good but the custard did not taste great. If the judges felt that Janusz and Kevin's score were that close than they look at the overall body of work and Janusz has won Star Baker, he has won technicals, the appearance of his bake is always neat and the designs look good. Kevin overall has had multiple issues with the appearance and execution of this bakes and the judges have question his flavors multiple times.

There is no one left I want to see go home, rooting for everyone left. While it was sad to see Kevin go I absolutely loved how everyone rallied around him to help him finish. that was the best part. While I was super sad to see him go, I go agree with the judges on him over Janusz. And I am happy he went out with some good comments - ie the great flavor.

I agree with the choice of Kevin going home. It seemed like he was hanging on for dear life each week. He was a nice person to watch on the show and I'll miss him.
Pastry week is up next! That's always an interesting episode!

It's mostly been in good fun. The show's social media accounts have been having a blast with it.
The baker in question did a TikTok video yesterday addressing the issue, and it's really funny.

Be WARNED the judging for Pastry Week is brutal. But that’s because the bakes were quite underwhelming… especially for quarterfinals.

Be WARNED the judging for Pastry Week is brutal. But that’s because the bakes were quite underwhelming… especially for quarterfinals. Well, Paul said the judging had to be harsher, and Prue confirmed it was the quarterfinals and it had to be. Totally agree this was a bad week for all the bakers.

Season 13 Episode 8 - "Pastry" - air date November 1, 2022 Signature: (Sweet Vol-au-vents) - 2 hours Technical: (Spring Rolls) - 1 hour 30 minutes Showstopper: (3D Storybook Pie Scene) - 4 hours Baker | Signature | Technical | Showstopper | Abdul | Coconut & Berry Vol-au-vents | 3rd | 'Adventures of a Pie-rate' | Janusz | 'Strawberries & Cream' Vol-au-vents | 2nd | 'The Very Hungry Sausage Dog' | Maxy | 'Summertime Fine' Vol-au-vents | 5th | 'Spicy Twinkling Stars' | Sandro | 'Key-Lime' Vol-au-vents | 1st | Caterpillar Pie Scene | Syabira | 'Citrus Dreams' Vol-au-vents | 4th | 'Jack & the Beanstalk' |
Star Baker: Syabira Eliminated: Marie-Therese "Maxy" Maligisa ****I don't know if it was the editing but it seemed obvious that Maxy was going out this week. Partly you could tell her confidence was down, she wasn't able to shake off each challenge you could see the nerves build. While it was a "bad" week for all the bakers, the other four were able to "Stay Calm and Carry On". Normally we see a lot of break downs and tears at this point and there were none. I must say it was a tad amusing watching Sandro so over confident and it all slipped away from him. Glad to see Abdul regain his confidence as his bakes seemed rather shaky the last several episodes. It did seem as if Janusz had his 8 spring rolls he would have won the technical. Spring Roll Gate? Where is the missing Spring Roll? Janusz's Tik Tok was so much fun, the link is in the previous posts. **** Note: Nicknames: Marie-Therese "Maxy" Maligisa Rebecca "Rebs" Lightbody Nelsandro "Sandro" Farmhouse

Wasn’t there a moment where he was asking in the background how many they were supposed to make? The week was overall underwhelming. I would have preferred Sandro to go personally.

I would have preferred Sandro to go personally. Me, too. But Sandro was first in the technical and Maxi was last so it might have come down to that. While both Maxy and Sandro had execution problems with their signatures both judges liked the flavors. Maxy was 5th in the technical and Sandro was 1st. Both had issues with their signatures. I think Maxy came across as defeated during this episode and as much as the judges are impartial a person's attitude may affect their judgement on a subconscious level. Maxy sent out a lovely thank you letter to everyone on Twitter saying how happy she was to have been chosen and that it was a great experience and she learned so much and grew as a baker and met some lovely people. Maxy has a bit of a self confidence issue and being on the GBBO really helped. Does Sandro come off a bit bitter in this episode?

Sandro's bitter has been building. He really wanted a handshake, a first in Technical and Star. While he got two, that handshake was beginning to stick in his craw and editing caught every flinch.
I'm all caught up to the final four and, as I was binging, I would get bored and notice no one did a super job. Paul was getting stricter and stricter as presentations were getting worse and worse. I know they are home cooks, but after watching the first episode of Holiday Baking, I felt let down by the level of competence.
