To be honest, I'm still scratching my head about this. Matty had errors in his signature and came in dead last in the Technical, how do you go from that to "oh yes, he's the winner of it all?" In spite of being lopsided I liked his cake design, and according to the judges it tasted fabulous. The only thing I can think of is that the judges put considerably more weight on the Showstopper results to make their decision, and the only reason why I'm not too angry about it is that Matty is so sweet and humble about it all and has shown a lot of growth this season. I also feel bad for him because he's getting cooked online, and I don't think it's exactly fair.

We watched it last night and while it was obvious Dan was done, I think Josh's finale bake was kind of meh with the decoration and they said it didn't taste as good. I think Matty grew this season and his wonderful personality just worked.

The British outlets (DailyMail, but they're always bitter Bettys over there lol, The Guardian, independent bloggers, etc) have been particularly nasty.

That really stinks, but yea, they have a tendency to get like that. I remember how they got over Rahul.

Oh my goodness, the discourse over Rahul's win was absolutely god-awful, with a huge dollop of racism mixed in. I mean, we all loved Queen Kim-Joy but to say he didn't deserve to win was ridiculous, especially considering how he hit it out of the park with his bakes, including the Finals. I admit that I'm not thrilled when someone is mid/dragging in previous weeks comes in and snatches it all over people who were consistent/great all season, but that was NOT the case in Rahul's season.

In case anyone is interested the GBBO Holidays and New Years shows for Christmass 2022 and New Year 2023 have dropped on Netflix.
The Holiday Special are presenters from various British networks.
The New Year's Special are previous GBBO cast.
These shows were filmed at the end of 2022 with Matt still there as one of the hosts. I can't believe the feeling of dislike/distaste I had seeing him. I normally do not have reactions like that but after having Allison as the new host and then seeing Noel and Matt together you can tell their chemistry is just way off.

I have to say, seeing him interact with people on different shows (Richard Ayoade on My Big Fat Quiz, The Mighty Boosh, etc) it's kinda obvious that there was some thinly veiled distaste for Matt on Noel's end. I'm also wondering if there's some truth to the rumours that Matt was asked to leave (as opposed to leaving the show of his own accord, like Sandy) because Noel looks happy as hell with Allison.

There was a cute skit in which Noel turned Matt into a frog and Paul along and picked the frog up and said "I love frog legs" then kissed the frog and Matt appeared dressed like Little Bo Peep. Matt interacted with Paul and all seemed fine. So yeah, there was definitely something off between M&N.

The latest Christmas Bake Off (which won't be on Netflix until next year) aired on Christmas Eve this year, and was very good. Without spoiling anything, it featured bakers from former seasons. Noel and Allison hosted. (If you follow the show on social media you probably saw some spoilers)
There will also be a New Year's Bake Off on New Year's Day, again featuring bakers from past seasons. (And again, Americans will see it in a year from now)
Also, for those who have access to UK TV, a new season of Junior Bake Off starts on Jan. 2nd on Channel 4.

I've been catching up on this season's Pottery Throw-Down since I found out that it had been moved to Channel 4 but I'll watch tonight; I saw what bakers are returning this year and got excited!

There is absolutely no reason why Netflix is a year behind with the Holiday Specials!
Being kinda vague here, but two things I noticed this year:
1. Instead of having a show with celeb bakers both the Christmas and New Year bakers this year were past contestants, and I have to admit that is so much better.
2. It's always lovely to see someone completely redeem themselves from their past appearance on the show, and it's equally good to see someone not do so hot in the beginning come from behind and do well in the Showstopper.

I think now they save the celebrities for the Stand Up 2 Cancer Bake Off specials they do. I think that's in the spring? It's usually several episodes.

I watched the Great American Bake Off Season 1 last year on Roku and hoping there would be a season 2. It was so nice to see American contestants in the Bake Off tent. Does anyone know if there would be a season 2? It's a British production so I hope the two American hosts could work regardless of the Actors Strike.

All I've been able to find is "Roku has ordered a seventh season of the show" on Wikipedia.
I imagine the strike delayed filming, so we'll have to see if they film a regular season or just another holiday season this year...

GBBO Goes Mainstream: In Netflix's recent release The Brothers Sun: the protagonist is watching Season 9 of GBBO (the season with Kim Joy and Rahul) and baking when some assassins break into his house, and as he's fighting them the episode is playing loudly on a wide screen TV in the background. Michelle Yeoh is in this and so far it's entertaining so check it out!

For UK viewers (and people with good VPNs): Bake Off just announced the celebrities taking part in this year's Stand Up 2 Cancer Bake Off specials. No date was announced today but they usually start airing in March. The names I'm most excited about are the 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker; Heartstopper star Joe Locke (this week he started a run on Broadway in Sweeney Todd and is getting raves); Mel B; and all-around acting presence Danny Dyer. http://instagram.com/p/C29Vv6AMRqo http://instagram.com/p/C29WR9EsAhZ

Some good ones this year. Fern Brady should be great. And Rhod Gilbert, especially as he’s just faced his own battle with head and neck cancer.
