Nooo, not Janusz! I really would have preferred Sandro to go home, but I guess the judges thought otherwise. Happy for Adbul finally getting Star Baker, though. I'm assuming peanut butter and jelly/jam isn't a thing at all over there? They looked at Syabira like she was crazy when she talked about putting peanut butter and berries together.

I'm assuming peanut butter and jelly/jam isn't a thing at all over there? They looked at Syabira like she was crazy when she talked about putting peanut butter and berries together. that's what I was thinking, has she never heard of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? I mean I love a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich but I am not sure I'd like it in a dessert. It would feel too much like lunch! But obviously those flavors go well together. Sad to see Janusz go. I guess his uneven baking in the showstopper was what sealed his fate over Sandro. I'm happy for Abdul to finally get star baker so he can feel like he deserves to be in the final. From the conversations around their baking it seemed like he earned it too, not that they had to pick too much between him and Syabira. Her showstopper had uneven baking as well whereas they said his was consistent.

Season 13 Episode 9: "Pâtisserie" (Semi-final) - air date November 8, 2022 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not my cake baby, Janusz. Signature: (Mini Charlottes) Technical: (Chocolate, Hazelnut and Raspberry Vertical Tarts) Showstopper: (Krokan) Baker | Signature | Technical | Showstopper | Abdul | 'Pistachio Tiramisu' Mini Charlottes | 2nd | 'To the Stars' | Janusz | 'Plums in Chocolate' Mini Charlottes | 3rd | 'Brighton Pride' | Sandro | 'Caramel Nutty' Mini Charlottes | 4th | 'Where it Started and How its Going' | Syabira | 'Peanut & Berries' Mini Charlottes | 1st | 'The DNA in You' |
Star Baker: Abdul Eliminated: Janusz Happy for Abdul, he always seemed to be resting on the second tier beneath the top tier of bakers like Maxy, Janusz, and Syabira. But Abdul got it that is is better to be perfect with a less complicated recipe. Time management is a problem for many of the bakers and Abdul finally learned what he can or cannot do in the time constraints of the tent, wish Sandro would get the message. Where the stress and time management was getting to some bakers, with Maxy an example, Adbul slowly got better and better the last two episodes. While I liked Sandro he is letting the stress of the tent get to him and a nasty side of his personality is showing. His bakes are ambitous, but the presentation has been mostly messy. It seemed a tight race between Janusz and Sandro but I thought Janusz would be ahead based on presentation and neatness. Looking forward to the final.

Interesting week with Abdul pulling ahead. Nobody rises to the level of past winner, Giuseppe, in my opinion. He was something special.

Yes, I kind of feel we are seeing a nasty side of Sandro. He has no joy and seems desperate at all cause to win, while the others seem lighter about it.

I stumbled upon the Junior Baking Show on Netflix. It is filmed in the tent and has two judges ( one of whom is Liam, who was a favorite of mine - he made the illusion pancake stack) and 8 kids. There are two challenges (Technical and Show Stopper) as I figure they thought three was just too much stress for the juniors. Lots of laughs and cuteness abounding.

Even MrCoz watched it with me but he doesn't watch the original version. The kids are so sweet, cute, and so talented!

I would have prefered Sandro over Janusz. I feel they wee tied this week and Janusz is the better overall baker.
Going to give Jr Baking show a shot. Thanks for the tip as I am in the lull between GBBS and Survivor/AR now.

Thanks for the tip as I am in the lull between GBBS and Survivor/AR now. I was hoping it would be Sandro instead of Janusz too. Sandro is good but he over does things and they don't always work out. I guess it was close. I love Junior Baking.

Personally, I like Janusz more… he seems to be close to Sybira, but I thought he should have gone home last week. This was two bad weeks in a row.

At this point it's sad to see anyone go home. It was sad to see Maxie implode last week, and this is sad too.
Very happy for Abdul. Sometimes it takes a little longer for some to shine.

It's tough to remain unspoiled if you follow the show on Twitter -- but I watched the show when it aired in the UK on Tuesday. But yup, zzzzzzzip till Friday!

Season 13 Episode 10 - The Final - air date November 15, 2022 Baker | Signature | Technical | Showstopper | Abdul | Summer Picnic | 1st | 'It's All About The Bees' | Sandro | Summer Picnic | 3rd | 'The World From Different Angles' | Syabira | Summer Picnic | 2nd | 'This is My Home' |
Winner: Syabira Signature: (Seasonal Pinic) - For the Signature Challenge the bakers were given three hours to make a summer picnic using seasonal sustainably grown ingredients from across the UK. This picnic had to include six mini cakes, six individual vegetarian pies, two loaves of white bread and six finger sandwiches using one of the white loaves. Syabira made vegetarian pies that contained aubergine, mushroom, quail egg and piccalilli. She also made heart-shaped broad bean, coriander paste, and salsa verde sandwiches and elderflower-infused Swiss rolls with strawberry jam and rosemary cream. Abdul made pies that contained Yorkshire fettle cheese, leek, onion, rocket, and mint. His sandwiches contained grated carrot and beetroot, cream cheese, chive, and dill and he made Swiss rolls with cherry and tarragon jam. Sandro made cauliflower cheese pies and egg and watercress sandwiches. He made lemon and elderflower cakes which contained mixed berry compote and a cream cheese filling. In true Sandro fashion, he made more than he needed to. He also made six fruit tarts and six blueberry jam biscuits. The judges loved the look of his bakes and thought his display looked very generous with the extra bakes. However, they did say that they wouldn’t try the extras as they weren’t part of the challenge.Technical: (Summer Pudding Bombe) - For the Technical Challenge, the bakers were given two hours to make a summer pudding bomb using a recipe that they had never seen before with minimal instructions. The bomb had an elderflower and berry jelly middle, surrounded by a meringue and raspberry mousse-like filling, surrounded by raspberry syrup-soaked bread, and topped with glazed fruit. Showstopper: (Large Planet Themed Edible Sculpture) - For the Showstopper Challenge, the bakers were given four and a half hours to make a large edible sculpture. The theme for the bake was “Our Beautiful Planet”. They had to bake a large cake base and showcase at least three additional baking skills. The judges were looking for flavor, color and imagination. (per www.nerdsandbeyond.com/2022/11/18/the-great-british-baking-show-recap-season-13-episode-10-the-final/)************************************************************************************************** Comments: I must say my favorite was Syabira. I did think the winner was going to be either Syabira or Abdul. I would have been OK with any of the three winning but I had my fav. I do wish that they gave the contestants a little bit more time to produce better results in the final. I do think all three bakers had skills, however Sandro rushes too much and misses instructions and such. He is trying so hard to impress that he tries to do too much and it messes with his time management and instead of having 3 perfect items he ends up with 5 messy ones. The judges said nice things about all the bakers flavors. Much came down to presentation and technical errors. Sandro overcooking his sponges for his cakes, not boiling the vegetarian gelatin (I give him a pass on this), but he makes decisions like making bread rounds instead of rectangular bread for the bombe because he wants to standout from the others and be different thinking he will get points from the judges not realizing the judges will give higher points for one perfect item vs 3 messy ones. I find it interesting that Paul does not believe Sandro when he says he practiced the Signature. He is depending on his skills and charm and not realizing you do need to throw in some hard work to be successful. On the other hand you have Syabira who has this great mindset of every week is a clean slate and you need to worry about what you are doing now and she practices.
