With PBS running the seasons now in cycles every 3 weeks, the only way I can make sense is to go by the winner. Right now, I am seeing the "one that Frances won".

Yesterday Netflix released "The Great British Bake Off Holiday Special" which is basically two Holiday-centric episodes with some of our favorite contestants competing in a Holiday Bake Off. Each episode has different contestants, and it's a lot of fun. Haven't watched this years yet but I remember the holiday specials from the Mel and Sue years and they were great. Definitely something to watch this holiday season!

I found and watched that last year on you tube. So happy they are doing it again and that Netflix picked it up.

Judging by Noel's hair they definitely shot it last year. The last holiday special I watched had Chetna on it so these episodes are new to me.
Watched the first episode and the showstopper with the snow globes was fabulous! I was happy for the winner, and it was very nice seeing old familiar faces again.

I think the 2nd episode is the one I watched on you tube. I so enjoyed the first episode they showed - yay for Paul! None of those competing had ever won Star Baker before. Paul wants to get away from being known for his "Lion Bread."

That lion bread was the stuff of legends, truly memorable. His penguin snow globes were so cute! I also liked Selasi's snow globes as well; how clever to use shredded coconut to imitate the "snow" in a globe once it's been shaken. Val had a bit of bad luck with her globes but it was good to see her again. I can't remember the other contestant's name but her globes were adorable.

A new Celebrity edition for Stand Up 4 Cancer is currently airing in the UK. There have been 4 episodes so far and a 5th airs tonight (or just aired). {Celebs on the show}So far the only American celeb was John Lithgow in the first episode.

Thanks for the Martha story. She was always a sweetie. Glad to see that she has had some success in the food field. I would love to hear about any others who did not win but have done well.

Kim-Joy, from the most recent season, will be releasing her cookbook in a couple of months. It comes out in September 3 in the US and Canada. I would love to buy the book, as Kim-Joy was one of my and my best friend's all-time favorite contestants of any season, and I loved her super cute and imaginative bakes:

I don’t think they put them on Netflix because a lot of the celebs would be Brits that many Americans don’t know.

The new season should be starting in the UK around now. They dropped a teaser trailer yesterday, but no premiere date was announced.

WOW!!! Weekly is better than another months long wait. I'll keep an eye out. An article by Eater a few days ago was a tirade against the outdoor fire Pita challenge during last season's finale. I giggled that they mentioned it once again in this article.

Thanks for the info. We had always watched GBBS one Netflix but last year watched it on PBS week by week. I didn't really like having to wait and not binge watch it! : lol We'll probably watch it that way anyhow!

This is fantastic news! Usually I have to look into *cough* alternative sites to watch as it airs and now I don't have to! What an excellent deal Love TV and Channel 4 made with Netflix!

That is so cool! Now it'll be so much easier to watch and avoid spoilers. I did read that they're making challenges this season not as hard as in previous ones, such as the infamous outdoor fire and pita bread challenge. Oh, and here's the cast this season. Some people have complained that most of them are very young, that it feels odd not having some older folks like in every other season. I'm inclined to agree, but still doesn't really ruin it for me. Also worth nothing that, much like season 4, this season has thirteen bakers instead of twelve, so we'll definitely be getting a double elimination at some point, just hopefully not on the first week.

Well, in their defense maybe not a lot of older people tried out this year? It's a big commitment (away every weekend for up to ten weeks) and not one everyone wants to do.

So I stayed up until 2am to watch and...yeah. :/ If you're used to watching GBBO the age thing is glaring. With the exception of 2 bakers EVERYONE is early to mid-twenties. Channel 4 tends to cater to younger viewers and I really hope they didn't do this on purpose to match their demographic. While I enjoyed some of the bakes I'm pretty neutral on the bakers (unlike last season when I liked quite a few off the bat). I liked who they made Star Baker but was furious over who they sent home, especially since there was another baker that did much worse (came in dead last for the technical and had a rubbery, nasty cake for the showstopper) that somehow got a pass. And yes, it was an older contestant that got the chop. Really disgusted right now and think I'll wait until Friday afternoon to watch for now on.
*edit* Okay, read the recap from The Independent and there's a few thirty year olds and one 40-something and a 50 year old, but the majority of the bakers are early to mid twenties. So it's not as bad as I initially though, but still bad.

I always thought that Paul was not good with the older men on the previous seasons.....making fun of their 70's decorations happened a bit more than I liked....so I am not surprised that they are going with a younger group.

Paul wants to see modern interpretation of bakes with artistic decorations. Unfortunately, a few of the older males (60-75) couldn't come up with the times. I don't blame Paul, perhaps if blame, the producers who forwarded these bakers into the tent.
