Oh, and guess who wrote supportive letters to Danny's judge requesting leniency? If you thought "Aston Kutcher and Mila Kunis" you would be correct. I guess Will Smith completely deserved being publicly called out by the pair for slapping someone, but apparently being a serial rapist is A-ok?

How disappointing…especially regarding Mila I know, I expected better from them. I guess they are showing their true colors. Maybe Scientology has gotten their hooks into them?

The actors who play Kitty and Red wrote letters as well. So disappointed.
Topher Grace and Wilmer Valderrama have been noticeably silent. Good for them.

Leah Remini released this statement about Danny Masterson's sentence: I wonder if his good friend Ashton is going to keep supporting him Holy heck... I didn't know that about committing a crime when reporting a fellow nutcase. And they'll go after you until you're virtually beaten to a pulp. The horrible info about these people never stops, always worse. The horrible info about these people just keeps coming.

Not making excuses for people but Busey has had extensive brain damage that has really affected his behavior for years. For cases like this he needs help, not jail. A con ban would also be in order as well. Yeah, Busey's been in a downward spiral for a very long time since that extensive brain damage. As you said, no excuses for his behavior---it was wrong and the women have every right to expect the charges to stick---but I wish whoever is handling his appearances etc. would start worrying a bit more about him and a bit less about the money. BTW, the article said he was at an autograph event with Veronica Cartwright, Ralph Macchio, and Tom Skerritt. Is it just me, or does that seem like an odd foursome to anyone else? Surprises me that Tom Skerritt would be seen in public with Busey; I mean Busey is so skeevy and Skerritt has projected himself as a decent sort of person. Even if they were promoting something relating to both their projects... WTH, surprises me that Skerritt would be with the creep.I know nothing about Busey, so it's brain damage eh? Sad.

She and Mike Rinder have a podcast too. Those people are scary and vicious. Any time I find out a public figure is a Scientologist I immediately lose respect for them. They either don't know about the abuses going on or (more likely) are turning a blind eye to them.
I think Mila and Ashton are going to experience some consequences as a result of their support of Danny. There's already been a ton of backlash online. They can support him privately as a friend, I guess, but publicly supporting a rapist is not a good look. Ask Phylicia Rashad. Her reputation never recovered from her support of Cosby.

We watched all seasons of her show and it was really eye opening. I never trusted Scientology but after watching it, I trusted it even less. And as you say, I lost respect for anyone who is one. I will never watch a Tom Cruise movie and I don't care how good it is. There are a few other stars like Michael Pena who I always liked but I found out he is one and will never again see anything he is in and I liked The Antman movies.

I guess I shouldn't be shocked at how many people wrote letters of support for DM to the judge, but I am. FORTY SEVEN people wrote letters, including most of his co-stars from That 70s Show. It was also his siblings, his wife, some other Scientologists and then random people like William Baldwin (when did he stop using Billy?). While Mila and Ashton deserve the backlash they're getting, these other people need to be called out too.
This article includes all the letters written:
The Walking Dead is one of my all-time favorite shows and I have a seriously hard time watching Alanna Masterston on that show. I like her character a lot, but I cringe when thinking about her association with Scientology and, especially, with her brother. Same with Jenna Elfman on Fear the Walking Dead. I like her character on the show, but she's made some really tone deaf statements in support of Scientology.
I saw that both Topher Grace and Laura Prepon had not written letters and I was surprised because I thought LP was a Scientologist. Apparently, she came to her senses and left Scientology a number of years ago.
libgirl2 - I feel the same way about Tom Cruise. I can't watch any movie he's in without thinking about his role in Scientology. Every time I see an interview with him, I get creeped out. There's no way he doesn't know what's going on in that organization and he either doesn't care OR he just gets off too much on all the a$$kissing and perks he gets to do anything about it.
ETA: Okay, I just now remembered that Chynna Phillips is Bijou's sister, so the William Baldwin letter makes more sense now, even if it still sucks.

Looking at this clip tells me everything I need to know about these two. They look like someone is holding a gun on them outside of the camera view to force them into making a statement, and Milia's smirking while talking about the victims just makes me rage. They made it obvious that they're upset that the letters and the contents were made public, not that writing the letters themselves was a misstep. Considering how Aston works with trafficked women I'm finding all of this disgusting. What's the message here, "Oh, we don't like men raping women unless they're our friends?" What the hell type of message is that?

Yeah. I compare their willingness to write a “character” letter to the reaction of a friend of mine when she learned that one of her closest life long friends had raped someone, and I know which side I’d come down on. My friend immediately removed that person from her life and never questioned that decision. It didn’t matter how many good things she’d seen from him if he was capable of committing that one terrible act!

This has been the season of celebs finding out that their letters of support for people who do vile things becomes a part of public record. The first this year was Iggy Azalea, who like Mila and Aston was angry that her support letter to the judge on behalf of Toney Lanez was made public (and not, you know, the fact that you made the statement in the first place) and he actually shot poor Megan Thee Stallion. In her FEET. In front of witnesses. What type of goblin does that?
I do have to say with all the ways things are stacked against rape victims in court, and with the slap on the wrist sentences they tend to give rape offenders (especially White and famous ones), the fact that they not only found this man guilty, but also gave him 30 YEARS!? Wow! I guarantee that there's a lot of stuff with this case that John Q Public isn't aware of that is so vile, so repugnant, that the jurors and the judge said "We're going to give you as much time as we can." They read the victim's statements. They go into detail about what this man did. And not only do you ignore their pain, you also write a glowing letter of support about what a fine, upstanding person he is and how he should get less time? I'm sorry, Aston and Mila are vile, terrible people.

My friend immediately removed that person from her life and never questioned that decision. It didn’t matter how many good things she’d seen from him if he was capable of committing that one terrible act! Something like this happened to my cousin. She was friends with a couple, starting in college. The couple ended up married and they all remained friends. Not quite ten years ago, the husband was arrested for attempted lewd acts with a minor under 14. He'd placed an ad and tried to solicit a meeting (with the intention of having sex) with a 13-year old girl. The even worse part is that they had a daughter that age. My cousin reached out to the wife to see if she was okay, but never heard back. I think she probably thought everyone was contacting her to get the dirt, which was not the case (at least not with my cousin). She got basic info from a mutual friend who'd stayed in closer touch, but my cousin never reached out again. Deleted all of his contact info from her life.
I met this guy more than once. I thought he was an a-hole, but never would have guessed he'd do what he did. I did look up his case to find out what happened and he got sentenced to like 90 days in a diversion program. I couldn't find him anywhere online, so I don't know what he's doing now or if his wife divorced him. I would have kicked him to the curb SO fast, especially with a young daughter at home.
As far as all these character letters, I think every person who wrote one should have to explain their support of a rapist. At least one letter talked about his anti-drug stance....and he drugged these women before raping them. It's just horrifingly tone deaf. I would expect his family to stand up for him, as well as other Scientologists. The rest of them? Fools.
Many people online are talking about how Topher Grace's distance from the rest of the 70's show cast was seen as snobbery or aloofness, but it's now making him look like the only smart one in the bunch.

He got so much unnecessary heat for not socializing/being part of the "group" back then. I wonder if he clocked everyone's true nature back then and was like "Nope."

He's always seemed like a nice, normal, low-drama guy. Based on what his wife wrote on her sm a few days ago, it's clear how SHE feels about DM. I'd guess her feelings are influenced by her husband's.

When the BBC and Channel put money into an investigation for years, their info is valid. It's been quietly known for years he's a pervert. This lowlife has also been deliberately snuggling up to the Alt-Right and Qnon crowds because he knows they will defend him. An Anon person posted on Twitter months ago that he was using that strategy, and it's apparently working; Elon Musk and his fanboys have already jumped to his defense.

The Russell Brand story is so disappointing. I've always liked him and thought he was really smart. I haven't followed him recently or paid close attention to what he's been doing lately. If he's dropped down the Q-Anon rabbit hole, that's really disappointing. Obviously, if these allegations of assault are true, then he needs to go down.

It reminds me of an episode of The Big Fat Quiz of the Year when the host refused to sit Lily Allen near Russell or Noel Fielding during shooting. How much did people know about this guy? Because apparently it seemed like an open secret.
What's interesting is the BBC/Channel 4 investigation uncovered a few other British comedians as well. I wonder who else is a secret (or not-so-secret) toerag?
