I think that would be the most depressing episode of this show ever, even if he hadn't died during filming. It was even worse knowing he did. It very much seemed like Sean's death was inevitable. No matter what measures Dr. Now tried to take and no matter how many times Sean claimed he was going to do better, it seemed pretty clear he was killing himself with food. I mean, HOW does someone gain nearly 300 pounds in just a few months!? It's unfathomable. Normally, I really can't tell if the people on this show have lost (or gained) much from weigh-in to weigh-in because they're so big. With Sean, it was shocking to see how much weight he gained.
People online were saying Sean's grandfather's reaction when Dr. Now called him was uncaring. I think it was the reaction of someone who KNEW that phone call was coming, sooner rather than later. His parents were definitely people who never should have been parents. I don't think we've ever seen someone who'd been infantilized quite to the level we saw with Sean and his mother. I don't know that she was a terrible person, but she was definitely a terrible mother.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that Sean had some mental disabilities or an intellectual limitation.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I could really use an inspiring episode with a great success story!

I know when I read he had gained that much I was astounded. How? Non-stop eating? Even then! That is gaining about two adults! I have read that his grandfather might have already known and it was set up for the filming. I guess you can't record someone without their knowledge. Unless they told they would. Yes bring on a good story! Or a feel good re-run!

I thought it was weird that Dr. Now was pictured in an open area of a hospital with people walking by. It seems odd that a doctor would use a speaker phone in an open area to notify the next of kin of a patient's death.
Definitely a set-up scene - but not believable.

I can't remember ever hearing Dr. Now say "You have completed my program." Wow. Milla lost almost 600 lbs, an insane amount of weight. Good for her! I enjoy ranting about a trainwreck episode once in a while, but a real success story like Milla's is nice to see.

She looks great. That is what the program is all about.

That was such a nice change of pace! Milla was such a happy, positive person and just kept working, even when things got hard. IIRC, she was a pretty sweet person and didn't complain a lot back during her first episode. I was so pleased for her, especially after her knee replacement. That looked SO painful. More than one person on this show has had that problem too. Knee joints aren't made to carry so much weight.
I did think it was a little odd to take her three kids on a date, and he didn't seem all that interesting, but maybe he was just camera shy. Whether it's with him or someone else, I hope she finds someone who treats her well and makes her happy.
Those scars on her arms were so gruesome. I was glad I'd already eaten dinner!

What these characters are essentially doing is turning themselves into GIANT 600-800 pound BABIES that must be taken care of by others.
Notice how they lay around in a baby position - the way their legs are all fat rolls and bent at the knee spread apart. Then think about how most of them have to be bathed by others. Their folds need to be powdered like a baby by someone else. They need to have their butts wiped by someone else. They have all of their food brought to them by someone else. Like babies, they are unable to walk. They must be pushed around on wheels by someone else (in a giant wheelchair rather than a stroller, but same dif!) Obviously they are unable to go to work, manage a household or do any sort of "adulting."

So Pauline whined a lot and then quit the program after accepting NONE of the blame for her lack of progress. Who could have predicted THAT would happen!? What a waste of time she was.
Glad to see June and Chad progressing and doing well.
Those skin removal surgeries are so gruesome. I can't bear to watch. One thing that's clear from all the various people we've seen on this show over the years - they can remove excess skin, but there's just no way to remove the skin and make things look "normal" ever again.

Pauline was a total waste of time and resources. Wasn't she the one who was always squawking for pain meds? She'll gain all her weight back, she has zero self control and refused to take responsibility for anything. June and Chad did great, I enjoy seeing people lose the weight and get active again. I'm fascinated by the skin removal surgeries. Dr. Now slicing off all that skin and plopping it on the scale...yet I can't watch the Pimple Popper show. I don't know how "normal" a body can ever look after being stretched to the limit, but at least they can move more freely. I was surprised that the arm flaps bothered June more than those ankles/legs. That would have driven me nuts.

There are plastic surgeons who are trained to a) take the skin off safely and b) make it look aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, a doctor like that is going to cost you a heck of a lot more than a surgeon who just removes the skin. Also, a lot of plastic surgeons don't opt into that kind of work because it's very time consuming and you have to have an artist's touch because you're literally sculpting what's left. It also depends on where the skin is hanging and how much of it you have so there's a lot of varibles.

The new season doesn't start until January, but they've got a new "where are they now" episode (Tamy and Karina) scheduled for tonight that came out of nowhere. Odd, but I'll watch!

Well, *I* didn't know about the new episode, but my DVR did! I'm watching it right now. I'm shocked that they've had 90 people on this show over the years. I just didn't realize it was that many people. I wonder how many of them ever got to their goal weight.

I was shocked that that piece of crap Gilbert was on my TV again. What was Karina thinking?! He's the idiot who insisted on having sex with Lupe right after her surgery, tearing all her stitches out. She hooks up with him and immediately starts gaining weight. Hopeless.
Tamy wasn't much better, running after James (who cheated on her before), but at least she did lose weight and get started on skin removal surgery.
The preview of the two brothers looked good...

I know! I was screaming at the TV! As soon as Karina said she'd never been in a relationship before, I knew he'd targeted her. She was like that goat in Jurassic Park. Never knew what hit her. It's bad enough that ANY former bf of another participant would seek out someone going on the show, but the fact that it's scummy Gilbert is even worse. I'll never forget what he did to Lupe. I hope Karina comes to her senses - or someone gives her a BIG come to Jesus talk - before she gains all her weight back, which is probably what Gilbert wants in the first place.
Yeah, both women this week had terrible men in their lives! James cheats on her and then refuses to stay in Texas so Tamy can do what's best for her health? Wht a selfish sob. Six weeks is NOTHING in the scheme of things, especially when it would so dramatically improve her quality of life. I was glad she found a doctor in Kentucky (?) who would help her and he seemed like a good guy. That lymphedema mass/panus was horrifying. I can't imagine toting that thing around. Even after she'd lost all that weight and it was kind of, well, deflated, it still weighed nearly 30 pounds
ITA about the preview with the brothers. That mother is clearly in denial about her part in it, but hopefully, her sons can get themselves together and lose the weight.

I'm looking forward to seeing the John and Lonnie. I don't think John is going to do well but I have high hopes for Lonnie. Lonnie doesn't look like the typical "contestant" on this show. He is clean, is quite nice looking, works and doesn't seem as "blobby" as some of the other ones. Maybe because he is still mobile. And while John was eating that horrible looking food, tots, cheese dogs.... I did notice Lonnie at least had a veggie pizza.

There were what, five chili cheese dogs and the other big plate full of tots/chili/cheese. That mess had to be at least 6000 calories, and that was ONE meal. Ugh.

There are 980 calories in 1 serving of Sonic Tater Tots with Chili & Cheese (Large). There are 420 calories in a 1 hot dog serving of Sonic Chili Cheese Coney.
A general idea on what he was eating and the calories. So if he had a plate full of chili cheese tots you can triple the calories amount I would say.

Is this Gilbert loser a "feeder?" Why else is he targeting these obese women and trying to sabotage them? I don't think Gilbert is a feeder, per se. To be a feeder, he'd have to derive sexual pleasure from the act of feeding a woman and causing her to gain massive amounts of weight. I just don't think that's Gilbert's thing. He obviously likes larger women, but I don't know that he wants them incapacitated. I DO think he's a predator or at least a sad sack who can only "get" women who aren't strong, independent and/or have other options. He clearly saw Karina coming. If she'd had more experience with men, she would have run in the other direction.
Dr. Now has clearly got Gilbert's number. That little jab about Gilbert gaining weight had me giggling.

Lonnie has to be one of the most likable people they've had on the show yet. No whining, took responsibility for himself, and kept the cleanest house I've seen on this show yet. The whole episode was pretty much drama-free, except for their idiot mother shaming them for trying to eat healthy. Chicken and veggies sounds "nasty"? Go chew on a stick of butter, you old bat. So happy both Lonnie and John did well, I hope we get a follow up later on. They must be saving the awful people and high drama for the rest of the season, though. I know they're coming.

I wanted to reach through the TV and smack her when she kept hammering them about how she missed the big dinners they used to make. The comment about how they must have some butter way in the back of the fridge? What a b!tch. She needs to take a hard look in the mirror because she's a big part of the reason those two boys got so huge.
I was really pleased for both Lonnie and John. I think Lonnie is definitely the best groomed person we've ever seen on this show! You know there are NO roaches in his house!
I think it was a one time thing, so it doesn't need its own thread, but did anyone else watch that "quarter ton teen" (or whatever it was called) special that aired after this show? OMG, yet another enabling mother. Her 3 year old son had a giant pot belly - like a genuine MAN'S beer belly - and she didn't realize his weight was a problem until she couldn't find him any clothes that fit? WTF!?
Not to take all of the responsibility away from the people who eat themselves to these astronomical weights, but so many of them got there, at least in part, due to terrible parenting.

I didn't watch Quarter Ton Teen, but I did catch about five minutes of that 1000 lb. Sisters mess. Five minutes is all I could take. After wondering how someone's forehead could store so much fat and struggling to understand what they were even saying, I gave up. They needed subtitles (and I live in the south and am used to the accent!).

"Smells like grease and freedom." That had to be one of the funniest things I've heard on this show. I had mixed feelings about Lindsey last night. SO many excuses, so much whining, very little effort on her part in the beginning. She earned herself a couple cheat days a week? WTF? That's what got you back here after your first surgery. Even though she got her surgery in the last five minutes of the show, I don't have high hopes for her. She did seem to do better after being away from her husband, though...two addicts together is a bad idea. And what was up with the "roommate" he got the second she went to Houston? Something funny going on there.
