Last night's episode with Rose was absolutely refreshing. I lost count of how many times she said "thank you" to her family, Dr. Now, and anyone else.
She was not an educated woman, but she was kind and appreciative. That counts for a LOT!

She was not an educated woman, but she was kind and appreciative. That counts for a LOT! I watched a little bit of it. For some reason with Sling, the broadcast is an hour behind. I might watch it on demand tonight. From what I saw, she was one of the "good ones". She was open with her mistakes and she admitted that Dr. Now gave her the tools and it was up to her.

I couldn't finish watching last night. It was getting apparent that nothing was going to change. That young woman will not see 30.

I made it to the end of the episode, but yeah...she's not going to make it. Made all the usual noise about working so hard but we could all see sodas, ranch dressing, and Lunchables in the fridge, blurred or not. One lap around the car and flapping your arms around for five minutes as exercise isn't going to make up for awful eating habits.
I'd love to know what happened to cause her whole support group - mom, sister, best friend - to just bail on her. Too much lying? Not trying? She couldn't be bothered to do the therapy meeting (and NEEDED it) and ghosted Dr. Now because she was in "hospice," whatever that meant. I do believe she had respiratory failure just by how bad her breathing sounded, but I don't believe much else she said.

Maybe her family suspected this would go the same but thought they would give her one last chance?

Probably a lifetime of advising and wanting someone to do better for themselves but that person giving lipservice/no accountability/not wanting to do better. It gets to the point that you've had enough and you're done.

Yet another hoopty breaks down on the way to Texas. Don't go on road trips with sketchy cars, people. And that brown/red stained mattress they showed looked like a crime scene. Why bring that with you? Throw it away! I was amazed she got surgery at the end, but maybe the editors were messing with us. I'm catching up on episodes I missed and I'm just now watching Delana's episode where the car breaks down. I remembered your comment
I like to think I'm an empathetic person, but then one of these folks falls down and they start wailing and yeah, not feeling so empathetic.
Now she's telling Dr. Now she eats Greek yogurt for breakfast and a salad for lunch With a BMI of 111. I wonder if she actually lost any weight before coming to that first appointment.

I mean, how is that even possible? IIRC, she was in the 650 lb range, so she has to be very short. There have been people on this show above 800 lbs and I think the highest BMIs have been with shorter people. There was one woman who I remember Dr. Now saying had a BMI of around 160 ( ) and I don't recall her being super tall.
I'm watching Shakiya's episode now and I've already seen comments online about how her support system completely disappeared by the end. I wonder what the story is there. They definitely seemed to have hit every fast food place on the way to Houston.

I wonder if the chance to be on TV was alluring and if they got paid anything? I also wonder if Shakiya is a person who promises to do something and then abandons it. They might have thought with support she would get the help she needed. When they saw she was going to give up on it, they had had enough.

What gets me is the main barrier that keeps people from proceeding with a procedure like this (money) is a non-issue here. Checkups, doctor appointments, surgery, followup, etc is all covered by the network; all you have to do is TRY. And some people can't even do that. It also makes me wonder how many people try out for this show who would really give it their all, but get passed over because they're "not good TV" in favor of trainwrecks. I want to see people succeed (or if they fail keep trying) on this show, but their trainwreck vs people who really try ratio is way off.

I am surprised this season with how many people are actually giving it there all and losing weight. Maybe TPTB heard all of us or maybe they are holding onto the worst for last? I did read recently that Vainey of Vainey and Allen passed away.

I remember the Half Ton Teen and that was really depressing. The late Sean Milliken's situation reminded me of him. Mother who babies and is feeding him to death. I think I will take a pass.

I'm thinking about the criticism the patients receive on my 600 lb life and people posting nasty things on SM because apparently they have no self control and WANT the people in question to know their thoughts. A lot of adults can't handle that sort of thing and thy expect teens to do it? Even the name is terrible- "Half Ton Teen." No thank you.

Y'all. What was the point of that episode last night? They should have rolled the credits right after he closed the laptop while Dr. Now was still talking to him. Mr. Charles looked like a beanbag with tiny little legs but insisted that he knew better than the doctor, continuing to have protein shakes, fruit and sandwiches, none of which are allowed on the diet. He could call an Uber to go "fishing" and grill hotdogs in the park (?!) but couldn't make it to the clinic to get weighed. I think his BMI was in the 130s? Total clown. And I don't believe he stopped using, he looked high in several of the clips.

Tuned back in at the end and then waited for the Tumor show. Now that was interesting. That man was quite the character.

The mom got called out for infantilizing her son and she did not take it well. She pretty much admitted that she didn't want him to leave her, so she was making it so he couldn't by feeding him into immobility. Sick. How is that not abuse, I mean legally?
I tried watching last night's episode, but I got so annoyed that I muted it....and then just didn't un-mute. As soon as he "hung up" on Dr. Now, I was done with him. Like Dr. Now is the problem there I love how savage Dr. Now has gotten in recent reasons. Even his book title takes no prisoners: The Scale Doesn't Lie: People Do

I don't remember them being on Oprah but they might have. I just found it: That is him. I don't think I can watch. He was losing some weight initially but not anymore. When his father died, he couldn't go to the funeral. The mother got her wish.

While there's some correlation between weight and health that's not always the case. You can be obese yet your vitals and labs are fine, especially if you're somewhat active.
