I'm not a big Halloween person, but have been watching HBC. I like that they are doing individual cake-sized projects. I'm not a fan of huge vignettes that are more about sculpture than taste.
I couldn't figure out why one of the women referred to her cookies as "tuilles." Tuilles are thin and usually rolled or molded into interesting shapes. Hers just looked like regular (thick) cookies.

I was not overwhelmed by any of the pavlovas. The right person did go home.

I wasn't wowed by the majority of the bakes on HBC this week, but I did love the judge's costumes.

I loved them too! Carla in particular made a cute alien.
Those bakes were rather tricky but I have to admit the right person went home. It succks because I liked her, but sometimes you just have a horrible time in the kitchen, plus I think everyone struggled with the spinach addition.
The Halloween Cookie Challenge and Outrageous Pumpkins also started this week, and they're a lot of fun.

Halloween Baking Championship: Still fun to watch the Carnaval theme play out. It's a good thing that the Bloody Mary bars were the preheat challenge because a lot of people were living foul design-wise, lol. I enjoyed the Main heat (they made teams, and had to design two body parts fused together) but didn't like the fact that it was a team elimination, especially since someone already dropped out and they're down one contestant anyway. I was really glad that the three bakers I really like (Mandi, Hollie, and the Sugar Daddy) were at the top but still sad over who went home, and it was over a smallish thing too.
Outrageous Pumpkins: If you've never watched this show please watch now because this season has some amazing talent. This week they had to make jack-o'-lantern skeletal structures, and while there was some amazing entries, the person who won the heat truly deserved it because she had small skeletal creatures inside her main creature, lol.

The double elimination felt odd. I don't like when they do teams. Let's say you does well and the other has a major failure. Then you suffer for something you can't control.

I don't mind teams but I do mind when there's a double elim based on them. As you pointed out it's really unfair.

Outrageous Pumpkins
This week was really good. First they had the carvers create 3D pop culture pumpkins. Then, they created masterpieces out of common literary phrases with a deadly twist. Daniel and Chaminda were tied for number one because even with the level of talent being as high as it is on the show right now their work was so far ahead of the others, it was unreal. The hot-air balloon Chaminda created was gorgeous, as was Daniel's tree.
While the other's work was still good, there were errors and roughness in the finished project, and the poor kid from Chicago completely forgot to carve one of the arms. I was still glad that the judges decided to send no one home this week because everyone did a decent job. Considering how someone dropped out at the beginning, it was a good choice.

Halloween Baking Championship:
The preheat was really interesting (trifles depicting someone getting buried) and Hollie really hit it out of the park because the face in her trifle actually looked like it was smushed against the glass. For the Main Heat they had to make pies with shrunken heads and eyeballs on it? I don't know; it was really weird, some heads looked like blobs of dough and the eyeballs in many cases made the dessert look unappetizing? I don't know.
Also, another fave went home. I'm wrapping Hollie and Sugar Daddy in bubblewrap, lol.

I wasn't that impressed with the shrunken heads on the pies but some of those pies sounded really yummy. Even before the show, I saw Hollie's trifle and not even knowing who's it was I thought "that one is going to win". As for who went home, that burnt pie along with a messy trifle pretty much sealed their fate. A shame as I expected better. Stacy had a really good day. She could be a dark horse.

Yep, just a bad time to have a bad week. She's capable of so much more.
Halloween Cookie Challenge: This was a fun week. The preheat was cookies designed to look like treats that want to eat people? . The Main heat designing Trick or Treat bags with a good and spooky side was better as people got quite creative.

HBC - Hollie's trifle was the best thing. That face! I need to catch up on the Cookie Challenge...

HBC- Everyone you expected ended up in the finals. They created these spheres filled with cake and other things that they had to smash in front of the judges and they judged by the spatter as well as the taste? The globes were pretty, and some of them smashed beautifully.
Halloween Cookie Challenge- A winner from a previous Halloween Baking Championship was on here and I'm not sure if that's fair; while I can understand people who competed but didn't win being on the one-off shows to get another crack at some money I feel a certain towards winners doing it.

No surprise on the final three, especially after the first bake. I fell asleep right at the end of the Cookie Challenge. Who won? I had one I was leaning towards, {Spoiler} the one who did the hedgehog funhouse.

{Spoiler} I do remember it was one of the women and NOT the guy who won HBC previously.

Well, the winner wasn't a totally surprise, though in all honesty they all were excellent. And so ends another Halloween Baking Championship. Next week, Holiday!!

True, b ut there's been some years....let's just say there's been some questionable calls in the past, and at least I can see why that person won. I liked all three final bakes and would have been happy with any one of the three winning.
I felt so bad for the Cake Daddy. The other guy pulled it together well when they announced who won but he was sobbing.

I know he got dinged on the mango not being enough and they thought his cake was too GOT. I did think his cakes looked fabulous but I saw someone mention how he should have made the dragon out of cake and I think that could have been a good choice.

Honestly I didn’t think the dragon looked that good. The rest of his display, yes. I’m not surprised that Holly won. I think if Ryan hadn’t been so rushed and had more time to decorate it would have been a much closer competition and he probably would have won as they had no faults with his cake whereas the other two had issues pointed out.

I swear some of the contestants on Holiday BC look familiar...? Too bad about the one that went home, as soon as I saw her roll that cake backwards I knew she was done. A few of those cinnamon rolls in the first challenge had my mouth watering!

A few of those cinnamon rolls in the first challenge had my mouth watering! Yes! That dude Josh was on the Christmas Cookie Challenge a few years ago and won for a cute train set made of cookies. Not sure about the rest.
I noticed quite a few "stories" this year. I know it's a way to get to know the contestants but I'd rather they didn't because they things they chose to highlight were very American Idol. O look, there's the single mom who is broke/the 9/11 survivor/the guy who came out to his family during the pandemic, etc.

HBC: Those turkey dome desserts the bakers made for the preheat were cute as hell, even the ones that didn't quite come out as expected. My personal favorite was the turkey whose neck was so big it just laid on the plate like road kill, lol.
The Main Heat was creative, and I liked the table settings on each of the cakes. I felt very badly for the lady who didn't get everything on her cake but it was delicious, which is why she got to stay and Miss "I'm a single mom and home baker" went home.
