In an earlier comment (before the blowback to H&M) . . .
"Officials at the foundation were reportedly 'stunned' after a lawyer for the Sussexes informed them they would not be going ahead with the event last week, shortly before the Netflix deal was announced."
Now it looks like Harry is threatening to sue the Sunday Times for linking the cancellation of the games to the Netflix/Amazon issue.
I'm just not a big believer in coincidences. They've had six months to re-think the concert fundraiser, and to cancel it just a week or so before the Netflix deal seems poorly timed. Major league sports are still finding a way to go on with their competitions without live audiences . . . why couldn't they do they Invictus concert as a "pay per view" or something?

Here is an article with the photos.
Notice the social distancing in the second photo. Great article and pictures!
It's been a long few months, so I've been a way for a while. So nice to come back to this! I remember hearing about the wedding at the time. It's so nice to see the pictures. The caption said Beatrice's dress was an altered version of one the Queen wore to the London premiere of "Lawrence of Arabia". One of the most iconic films in Hollywood history, worn by the Queen--I'd say that dress has quite a pedigree. "Fitted by the Queen's senior dresser", sounds like Downton Abbey! And oh my, could their smiles be any bigger? You could light up the castle with those smiles. And yes, I could totally see those roses swallowing somebody on a fantasy show like Once Upon a Time.
Tom the 100-year-old knight. It's so sweet. My husband is British, so we keep in touch with British news. He fought in WWII and wanted to do his duty for his country again. He pledged to walk across his back yard 100 times if people would contribute money to a Covid charity fund. So many people sent so much money that he just kept on going. I'm so glad he was honored.
From the sublime to the mundane. Another H & M mess? I used to love Harry, but really, I'm getting tired of them. I mean, for Pete's sake. When this pandemic mess blew up, British musicians were doing concerts from their homes and live streaming them. There was absolutely no way H & M could have held this one for such a special cause? Color me suspicious.

It's a tough call; I know people here have a tendency to think the worst of H&M now, but a lot of events here and abroad have been cancelled this year (especially in the arts) so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

What is the new H&M mess?

What is the new H&M mess? Apparently, they were supposed to have some concert to raise money for the Invictus Games, which is like the Olympics for disabled veterans. Since Harry served in Afghanistan, this is a cause dear to his heart. In fact, didn't he found them, at least in the UK? Anyway, it was abruptly announced recently that the concert would not be held, and then not long after that it was announced that they were going to do some show on Netflix. Now, that could be a totally random coincidence. I have no idea. But I know that major sports began playing again in Britain even before they did here in America. Also, they've held several awards shows since the pandemic began. (Even the NFL draft was held remotely!) And various famous musicians have held "concerts" from their homes and live streamed them. Therefore, I just find it a little dodgy that there was no way they could have held this Invictus concert.

I'd agree that the Netflix deal probably had something to do with the cancellation. And while short term, people may see that as snubbing the Invictus Games for personal gain, I think it's too early to tell. If one of the shows they develop for Netflix centers around the games and the wounded warriors who are a part of it, that could bring more money and attention to the cause than the concert would have.
I'd rather get outraged over things that happen than things imagined.

In preparation for the new season of "The Crown" which will drop on Netflix on 11/15, we've been re-watching all the earlier seasons. I really enjoy the show . . . but . . .
I am aghast that Harry would sign up with a company that portrays his grandparents and parents so negatively. Philip is shown as a cheating womanizer, he and Elizabeth are portrayed as almost breaking up at one point, Margaret is shown as a drunken skank, the Queen Mum is shown as a not-very-nice person, etc., etc., etc.
Even if all of the portrayals are true, they are not at all complimentary to the Royal Family. Were I in the family, I could not accept money to join a company which portrayed my loved ones in that manner.
JMO.

Recent articles the past few days indicate that a WHOLE lot of people (from Buckingham Palace on down) are outraged that Harry is still sticking with Netflix after the recent release of season 4 of "The Crown." Between portraying Charles as an asshole and actually showing Diana jamming her fingers down her throat as a bulemic, there is an outcry that he is enriching himself at the expense of his family. An insider said Prince William “is none too pleased with” the show’s depiction of Diana and Charles’ relationship.
They added: “He feels that both his parents are being exploited and being presented in a false, simplistic way to make money.”
I've felt this way all along, even before season 4. YMMV.

I’m confused by Williams reaction. Didn’t Diana admit to bullemia? And Charles flaws have been put on display. Not to mention that The Crown is historical FICTION. Honestly, I wonder if William is truly upset, or if Netflix is pushing the stories to promote the show.

It's a very sad time, one that is difficult to explain, at least it was for me. I hope they try again, when the hurting stops.

I feel extremely bad for her, especially since the trolls have come out of the woodwork to call her everything from attention-seeking to a murderer. There's this site/forum that has been overtaken by people who got banned from the DailyMail (!) and other official sites for saying the grossest racist things about Meghan and you would think Christmas came early with the way those disgusting people have been acting on there. It's sick. Who finds joy in something like this? There were people who guessed that she was pregnant around that time which makes it worse. I hope she, Christine Teigen, Hillaria Baldwin, and other women continue to speak out because for so long having a miscarriage was considered something to keep quiet about, like it's something shameful and your fault and it's not. And above all, women need to see they aren't alone.

Watched the Diana: In Her Own Words on Netflix - it was fabulous and eye opening. A young naive girl thrust into something no on could prepare for and expected to just handle it on her own and without any support. At times a bit heart breaking to listen to.

I'm not going to weigh in on the Harry brouhaha. And for the record, I have never watched The Crown because I've heard it takes too many liberties with the truth. However, where's smoke, there's often a fire. Philip may not have actually cheated; however, he was reluctant to marry Elizabeth. He came from some obscure, impoverished European royal family, and even though they are distant cousins, the Brit royals really looked down their noses at Philip. (In fact, it's ironic. When Diana first married into their family, she bonded with Philip because they both understood what it was like to be outsiders in The Firm.) It was the Queen Mother who insisted that Philip give up his last name and adopt Elizabeth's instead, which Philip really did not want to do. Because of all this friction, it would not surprise me if at some point Philip decided he wanted to bow out of the marriage.
I'm not all that familiar with the Queen Mother. It seems that Charles had a great relationship with her when he was a kid, and that it was she who encouraged his love of the arts and gardening.
Margaret always felt bitter about being pressured to give up the man she loved. (Maybe she also blamed herself for not being willing to give up the royal life. Who knows? ) She went out of her way to hang with the hip, happenin', cool crowd in London. In her day, she was considered a kind of proto-Diana, somebody who had thrown off the stuffy bonds of the royal family and who embraced modernity. The Crown's portrayal of her, however, is probably exaggerated. I doubt she was getting drunk and sleeping around, since she remained within the bosom of the royal family until she died.
Charles, OTOH, most certainly did sleep around in the 70's. He was considered one of the most eligible bachelors in Europe, and he played up his image to the hilt, squiring around models and B-list actresses. In fact, this was the reason his family put so much pressure on him to get married soon, and to a virginal young woman, because the tabloids loved talking about him.

Wow! Those are strict rules! I'm not disagreeing or saying they're bad, just acknowledging how limiting they are. If you have a family of five like they do, six people means you can either visit with one grandparent or leave one of your kids home or maybe only one parent goes with the kids. Basically, something that strict means most people won't be able to visit at all, which is good (and likely the point).

Like pennies, bad apples manage to show up again. Apparently the reason why we haven't heard from Samantha Markle for the past year is because she's been writing a book, and I give you a guess on who it is about! It's called "The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part 1" and is supposed to tell the "truth" about her relationship with Meghan. What relationship? They weren't raised together, they don't talk...this woman is delusional and frothing mad with hatred and envy. She needs to get a hobby and leave her sister alone.

Princess Margeret was known for being a very heavy drinker, smoker, occasionally light drugs, and having boyfriends. Yes, she was rebelling and it was obvious she was unhappy. Also what she did may have been considered scandalous at the time but nowadays probably not so much.

I'm also guessing that after her miscarriage she wanted to wait a bit before announcing. I have a friend who has had miscarriages and used IVF who recently announced her pregnancy and struggles at 29 weeks, and she and Meghan are around the same size. It could also be the dress too as it appears to be quite flowy.
