I love the Durrells in Corfu! Every episode is just so enjoyable, and this week my favorites were Margo and Lugaretzia. Lugaretzia is so patient with Margo, no matter what crazy thing Margo does. They are now my comedic relief in each episode. That scene with everyone kissing the air, except Margo (who thinks it's important to do it right by kissing the ancient decrepit slippers) was hysterical. No wonder Lugaretzia shakes her head all of the time. Hurray, there will be a 4th Season of the show, scheduled to begin filming this year! www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2018-10-30/the-durrells-will-return-for-a-fourth-series-on-itv/

Has anyone ever taken a Viking River Cruise? It seems to be chief sponsor for Masterpiece, and from what we see before, and after performances, the beautiful images make me wish I could go on one. I'm just curious if anyone has ever been on one. Season Finale of both Durrells and Poldark this weekend! Yikes whatever will I do on Sundays?

Cried through the Durrells finale. There will be a fourth season. I wonder how much they're deviating from the original trilogy. The Durrells were only in Corfu for 4 years.

I haven't, but I want to do so. I love those commercials, too. I told Mr. Red that Masterpiece was the only show where I didn't mind watching the commercials.

I loved the Durrells finale; Louisa!!!! I cried.
Poldark is so good even though Ross and Demelza and the whole jealousy thing bored me this season. Very happy that all ended well for Morwenna and Drake! What will Horace the pug be thinking next?????
I loved the adaptation of The Woman in White. I read the book and it was very true to it. I love a good spooky mystery, but wish it had been shown mostly in October for Halloween. The novel is considered one of the very first mystery novels written.

I love everything about this show....from the music at the beginning of each episode, all the way through to the end. I will be anxiously awaiting the final season. I think I’m going to have to consider reading the books too. It’s just that good.

I cannot recommend the books highly enough. I have several of them and they're great. About halfway through the series (of books), Graham shifts to the younger generation who have grown up. One of Ross and Demelza's kids marries a person they don't approve of; one of the Poldark boys (Jeremy or Geoffrey Charles) goes off to fight in the Napoleonic War; and somebody has a grand romance. Ahhhh...good stuff. When I finished the last book I cried because I felt they had become part of my family.
Ross's hypocrisy is galling. He harps on and on about Hugh and yet all this time he's still carried a torch for Elizabeth. Poor Demelza. It was bad enough when Elizabeth was alive, but how can you compete with the sainted memory of a dead woman? As I said earlier, I actually enjoyed the subplots more this season. The critic over at Vulture said she thought Dwight was the real hero. I'm almost tempted to agree with her.
I loved that shot of Horace the Pug between Dwight and Caroline! I'm going to miss that dog. (Didn't they used to have a little dog emoji?)
I was so disappointed that I didn't catch WIW when it began. I had heard that it was a huge bestseller in late 19th century Britain, so I would have loved to have seen it. I will have to see if I can catch it online. I think I'll read the book first. I'm an English major so I feel like I have to read the book if it's been adapted.

Just a reminder: Call the Midwife Holiday Special airs on Tuesday, Christmas Day 9/8pm NEW Episode. My PBS schedule says that Trixie returns to Poplar in time to cover for the sisters as they leave for the Mother House to elect a new spiritual leader. However, I noticed that my TV Listings says: Sister Mildred arrives at Nonnatus House with four Chinese orphans. Either way, it is a NEW episode to tide us over until Call the Midwife Returns!

I know!!!! I am so glad that the nun selected to be Mother Superior (Sr Mildred) was the one elected. I can't imagine the show without Sr Julienne!!! I will miss Sr Winifred though. Good luck to Victoria Yeates (Sr Winifred) who will focus on her role as "Bunty" in Fantastic Beasts. I wonder if she will return at a later time? Anyway, I look forward to the continuation of the series and there exceptional cast! This was a wonderful, warm hearted Christmas episode, in keeping with what we are so appreciative of.

The actress has said she has left the show but you never know. Tom is not going to be on next season either but the actor said he might be on a future season. It was kind of sad when Trixie came home and was greeted by her fellow nurses in that it made me think of all the characters who were not there to greet her, having left over the years. At least we heard mention of Nurse Mount and Tom, that was nice. And we are getting some new nuns so that might be good.
So there was the storyline about more women giving birth in hospitals. Are we coming to an end of Nonnatus? I hope there are still seasons after this next one. I just did some googling and it looks like the real order left London in 1976 and we are now in the mid-60s so that is at least a decade of stories to tell.
I was glad that May got to go home with the Doctor and Shelagh but I felt bad for the blonde girl who has clearly been through many unsuccessful “picking” sessions.

Touching when Nurse Crane, gave Trixie a woolen Nonnatus sweater of Barbara's... that was my first crying session during the episode. I also loved getting an update on Nurses Patsy and Delia, and of course on Tom joining Barbara's father. Trixie looked sad (to me) at the mention of Tom. Since in real life they are partners, I kind of wish they could resume a romance on screen again..... maybe, farther down. Anyway, I loved watching it a second time (PBS/Masterpiece allows reviewing until January 24, 2019), and I cried just as much as the first time.

Watched all four seasons of Poldark. It’s been on my watchlist, but life kept getting in the way season after season. I love the villains or more unscrupulous characters in this series. Rowella and George are both fascinating with their scheming. Also, the secondary storylines are more interesting than Ross & Demelzda. Morwenna, Drake, and Geoffrey Charles are my favorite trio. Oh, everybody deals so kindly with Sam and his religion...it’s rather sweet! Prudie is a kick😁
Now to patiently wait for season 5. Hopefully life cooperates!

Not sure the prequel thing is correct. The preview teaser such as it is has a motorbike in it. In season 1 they were just moving to cars from horse drawn carriages.

Britain was on the cusp of major social change. In another year a general strike is going to paralyze the country. It will be interesting to see if they show any of that. If Lady Sybil had lived, she would have driven her parents crazy by supporting the strikers. Now that would have made some interesting dinner conversation.

Probably the last horah before the Great Depression. I think I read or saw an interview with JF that indicated he thought the story could continue at least through WWII

Gosford Park, JF's movie about upstairs/downstairs Britain, was set in the early 30's. I highly recommend it. Since it's a British movie, though, it's almost all dialogue so you have to actually pay attention. Fortunately I watched it on DVD, because I had to see it twice to understand most of it.
During the 1930's, most of the upper class quietly (and some not-so-quietly) supported Hitler since he kept Communism at bay. Even the Royal Family endorsed him and wanted to negotiate with Germany rather than go to war. You could have a field day with Downton Abbey exploring those dynamics. Who would be for, and who against, appeasement?
