I'm not sad that this show will not continue. I only watched a clip for Emma Kenney. I'll watch her on Shameless as I usually do.

To briefly summarize the "roast" thing, it has been reported widely and was featured in a PBS Frontline special on the election as the reason Donald Trump was motivated to run...as a way to get personal vengeance on Obama for his jokes that night. Obama did not use offensive language, he simply made fun on Trump's work on The Apprentice and how it supposedly made him capable of making the tough calls as President. And it certainly wasn't unprovoked -- Trump had personally spent the previous two years as the leader of the "birth certificate" conspiracy movement against him.
This was at the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2011. The same weekend that we took out Osama Bin Laden.
Back to Roseanne and only Roseanne talk.

I think ABC made the right call. It sucks for the cast, but they knew what she was like when they signed on. She has a history of gross statements and opinions. It was a decent show and I grew up watching the original. They should kill off her character and let the show just be about Dan and the kids: the Connors. Rosanne was honestly the least funny part of the show.

Although I found Dan darker and humorless in this re-boot. Everything seemed so much darker and sad. I honestly thought if she were a Trump supporter that she would have The Conner's benefit from...the Trump administration. I kinda thought she was joking about being a Trump Supporter because the show was so dark.
I have been watching the original. Wow, it was such a great show!

Some shows have gone on without one of their main stars such as Valerie... which was later changed to Valerie's Family and then the Hogan Family.

The Hogan Family went on for 6 seasons and Valerie Harper was only in the first 1 and a half seasons, so it can be done.

Wow, so much can happen in a short time! I've been avoiding the big news sites lately, because I find the news in general horrible. So, this is the first I am hearing about it. I've enjoyed the show, I've enjoyed some of the issues they have brought awareness too. Enjoy a lot of the characters. I was looking forward to a second season. But, I do "get" why the show was dropped, and agree they made the right decision. I am sad for those people that work on the show, all areas of the show production. The fact that Networks are responsive to issues we find offensive, is a sign of increase in our public awareness and influence. Over the years, I have always thought "She is a bit of a crazy comic" and, has always been a little "out there". She seems to speak first, and think later. Celebrity status means being responsible for things you say and do, because the influence you have on others, is greater. So long Roseanne Reboot..... my favorite episode was when David returned (via the window) and Roseanne told him at the episode end, she was counting on him to do the right thing and make her proud.

I've enjoyed the show too. I've seen every episode. I've liked the way they've approached the issues they've raised in a humorous way. I'm going to miss the show. If they wouldn't have cancelled it I would have continued to watch it because it's been a good show. However, separating the show from the star isn't easy. I'm not sure how long it would have taken before I saw the actress instead of the character. Probably not all that long.
Roseanne (the actress) has been like this for a long time. Many of her tasteless antics have been mentioned here. But there have been many many more, even back when the show was on the 1st time. The difference is that back then the Networks & Hollywood looked the other way. They saw the dollar signs that both she and the show brought so laughed her off as a character, let it go.
Times have changed since the show was on the first time. People are more aware of hurtful, tasteful, racist, and sexist abuses, and the damages they cause, and they're calling the offenders on their actions.
I hope Roseanne and her attitude go away for good this time.

ABC knew she bought into the sandy book conspiracy, why take her on at all?, Oh well, I hope the cast members find another job.. Unfortunately in this case that's just not practical. Like it or not, Roseanne Barr is the reason for this show. While the rest of the Connor family is great & important, the show focuses mainly on her. Her outspoken reputation outside the show is what gets her noticed. Her character has many of her personality traits, although the character is able to be much more open minded when the story calls for it & able to understand multiple sides of an issue. The rest of the cast could maybe carry the show for 1 season, but even that's iffy. I doubt it would make it to the end of the season. Killing off the Roseanne character would be killing off the show. Choosing to end the show now would be preferable to the Network having a ratings disaster on their hands. This cancellation shocked me. Seldom does a show have so much success immediately out of the gate. This one just blasted off. The Network just killed the Golden Goose. It wouldn't surprise me if like Fanny Mare said, another Network picks it up. After this scandal however, I doubt it would be a ratings bonanza anymore. Darn that Roseanne & her big & stupid mouth. "Joke" or no joke, she should have know better than to make an ugly comment like that. Especially in writing. Ultimately, she did it to herself. Looking at the original creation of the show, I agree with you completely. But with the reboot, I disagree that she was the reason for the show. For starters, Sarah Gilbert is the one credited with bringing it to life the second time around - not Roseanne. Sarah was the one who talked with each cast member to see if they'd be willing, and was a part of getting it picked up. Whitney Cummings was also a big hand behind the scenes. Roseanne still had a role no question, but was not THE driving force like she was the first time around. And from a story perspective, she was enough of a supporting player that they could have moved on without her. I don't know what the legalities were in terms of how much she owned and what options the network had. But she was not driving the ship with as much force as she had back in the day. Yeah, you can't kill off Roseanne on a show called Roseanne. Remember when Valerie Harper left Valerie and they renamed it The Hogan Family / Valerie's Family (I think it was both at one point)? That show crashed and burned without the original star.
I'm sure the actors will be fine. I'm not concerned about them, although a few of the cast didn't have busy careers like John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf. I'm much more concerned about all the crew and other staffers that are now out of a job. They don't have the financial security that some of the top billed stars on this show do. Roseanne's behavior put production assistants, writers, hairdressers, grips, and all the rest out of work. She should be ashamed of herself for that because we KNOW she'll never be ashamed about the nasty things she's said. Check out the opening and closing credits on ANY TV show. There are a lot more people behind the scenes that you ever seen on screen.
I do question why ABC ran with the show in the first place. She has her views, some of which I find offensive (someone mentioned Sandy Hook) and I wouldn't have watched her show because of them. Ultimately it's all about money, so ABC wasn't going to do anything until her behavior reached a point where it was going to hurt their bottom line OR she said something so horrible that they just couldn't chalk it up to her just being outspoken about her beliefs. I haven't seen her be a homophobe, but she's been hideously racist, attacked several religions and that stuff questioning Sandy Hook? I used the word "abhorrent" upthread and it's applicable.
I've seen people saying that this is a move against conservatives. NO, this is about this one conservative and if "conservative" is now synonymous with racism and hate against religious groups, attacking teenagers who survived and parents of children who were murdered in school shootings, then maybe it's time to reevaluate I've also seen people whining about the First Amendment. Yeah, until the government comes and rounds her up and hauls her off to a Federal prison, she's got her freedom of speech. Free speech isn't about freedom from consequences and, unfortunately, others are having to suffer HER consequences as well.
Valerie / Valerie's Family / The Hogan Family aired for five seasons. Valerie Harper left in the second season. If 3.5 seasons without the original star is crashing and burning, I'm willing to bet all the people employed by the show would have been happy to crash and burn that way.

I've never liked the woman. Never found her funny. Never knew her politics. Never watched her show. (But I don't watch any sit-coms, find the 'humor' unfunny and puerile) so I've only watched this thread to see how Forters reacted to her and her odd politics and conspirities (to me at least).
She attacked a well respected and accomplished woman with a double hit - a reviled religion on RBs obvious side of the aisle with no actual association with the target, and a deplorable slur against a woman of minority status. But the fact that she was so comfortable sending this hate out is a sign of the times. I am completely flummoxed by the downturn of the civility of discourse in my country in the last two years. Of course she thought she could make such a racist statement on Twitter. Open racism has become common. So, here's the war on "political correctness'. The antithesis of racism. She is a despicable person with nasty tendencies toward bullying minorities, and she does not deserve a national platform. So says ABC, so says me. Get this hate out of my country before it's too late for our Democracy. Minorities were once Italians, Irish, any non-English speakers, Asians, kidnaped and enslaved Africans, and their eventual inclusion in our American society has created the most remarkable Democracy (outside of Scandinavia) in the world. Lets not lose this.

I think how she's treating the rest of the cast for their responses is quite distressing. Clearly, this show will not get picked up by anyone now; these actors can no longer work together. I wish more than ever now that they had just booted her. www.newsweek.com/roseanne-barr-twitter-sara-gilbert-949298

THANKS RB for screwing this all up for so many. BUT I totally agree with SG and MF .... totally. Every time she tweets something she always ends it with " I am done" and yet she continues to take to twitter and be her usual RUDE self. UnFREAKINGbelievable. RB's response to her on air son Michael Fishman.Barr responded to Fishman early Wednesday morning, claiming that it was because of her that they even had a show to display inclusivity in the first place. “I created the platform for that inclusivity and you know it. ME. You throw me under the bus. Nice!” she wrote. So is just so rude.......its all about HER.

The show was good, and I agree with Miss Scarlet: It looks like she is taking responsibility for her actions, perhaps she will remember to think now before she ever makes a crude, racist "joke" (even on ambien). It's too late for the show, cast, & production, but she does seem sincerely disappointed in herself. Which is what I would expect at this point. (I try as much as possible to not judge anyone, yes I fail at it, all to often; but, I really want to stop thinking in a judgmental way. So I forgive her, even if I am not able to ever forget.) I never liked or thought Don Rickles was funny, (bless his soul) and always wondered how comediennes got away with it? Well, times have changed at last, and I hope that humanity will evolve for the better.

Perhaps she wasn't just booted/killed off b/c she has intellectual ownership or creative rights to the show so even if she wasn't a character she would still benefit financially from it airing. In that case, I do think the network did the right thing. They shouldn't reward a racist. I feel bad for the cast- it was a reunion and you could tell they loved working together.

Someone needs to take her phone away. Yup.... and quickly!
I liked the reboot. Watched all seven episodes and was looking forward to seeing new ones in the fall. Never understood why so many people thought it was one sided as far as politics goes. It wasn't.
I think Rosanne believed she was untouchable. Her reboot was super successful. High ratings. Money maker for herself and the network. It/she was their cash cow. She felt she had clear sailing with ANYTHING she tweeted, verbally stated, or implied because of the reboot's success. She didn't. Good.
That said, I do feel sorry for the cast and mostly the crew of the show. Life can change, on a dime, and it happened to them yesterday. Some people are saying the cast and crew understand what type of person Rosanne is and that they, too, are at fault for hooking up to her bandwagon. I disagree. For most of them, it was a job! It put food on their tables for an undetermined amount of time. TV shows come and go. They know the uncertainty of the Hollywood climate. BUT, they expected it to last more than the pilot episodes because it was sooooo successful. That's why I feel sorry for them.
Roseanne is a powder keg and always has been. Clearly, she KNEW what she was saying. Shame on her. She's disgusting!
