I thought the season opener, was one of the best. The way three strangers came together like that, was excellent writing. Jack, blind and singing, gave me the shivers. I hope this season is going to be a good one. It sure kept our attention.

It was a great season opener, although I kept wondering for about the first 45 minutes or so who all those people were and why we should care about them. Then, wow, oh me of little faith! The biggest wow was who the blind singer turned out to be. We'll see what happens to the Deja story, which is probably the least interesting to me. So Randall and Beth will get to see firsthand the teen dating scene nowadays, complicated by a boyfriend with a baby, big whoop. The story about Cassidy isn't pulling me in yet, but some reviews are saying she might turn out to be the mother of Kevin's (future) son. She doesn't seem Kevin's type. I keep wanting it to be Sophie. Seeing Jack and Miguel meeting for the first time was a nice touch, especially with Miguel saying the girl (Rebecca) must be very special.

I had read that as well. For one thing she seems to have an alcohol problem and PTSD. Kevin has enough issues with substance abuse so not sure that would be a great match. I'm not interested in the teen dad but gosh his baby girl was the cutest baby ever! Plus the actor looked to be in junior high and maybe 13. Did they say he was in high school? He probably just has one of those baby faces but when his mom told him not to wake the baby I thought the baby was his little sister. I kind of gasped when I realized the baby was his. Was good to see Omar Epps again. I like him and don't mind if he sticks around. I'm kind of meh on Jennifer Morrison, the veteran. She and Omar were both on House together many moons ago. For a minute I thought that bare ( and very nice ) tush was Kevin's. Cool that they got a visually impaired actor to play the role of Jack, son of Kate and Toby. Tim Matheson was a blast from the past. Otter from Animal House is aging well.

I thought Cassidy may have known, Nicky? that's who threw the rock, I thought she knew him. I guess we will see.

The singer Jack's wife... looks so much like Cassidy. Maybe Cassidy's daughter? I had a hard time following the "future" storylines in this episode. Every scene, I was like WHEN is this supposed to be?

Every scene, I was like WHEN is this supposed to be? I usually watch it twice, once with DH, then alone Jack met his wife, because he broke a plate, and went out for breakfast. I'm not thinking about who she is, because it's not important to blind Jacks storyline.jmho

I don't know the connection on the female vet Cassidy though.... why are we seeing her storyline?
There must be some family connection. Maybe she's Nicky's daughter!

It was driving me crazy early in the show not knowing who the new people were and how they connected to the existing storyline. I thought they were people from the past but then when they revealed toward the end that they were people from the future, it finally made sense.
I like that Toby and Kate's son is blind. This show is such a huge platform to teach people about those with vision impairment, I think viewers will learn a lot about the blind. They already learned that not all blind people are completely blind, that you can't tell a blind person "follow me" or just point to something you're talking about, and that the blind are capable of playing music. The waitresses description of the restaurant was crappy but I'll give them a break on that.

She's got to have some kind of big role coming up, but I hope it's not a romantic relationship with Kevin. I'd rather see her connecting with Nicky, and helping each other get through their war traumas. I think we're in for more about Kevin's struggles with alcohol, though, so that might be a factor of putting the two of them together. Interesting to note there were a lot of liquor bottles in young Jack's (Kate's son) room, so I wonder if he has or had alcohol problems, too.

I'd of been more worried, seeing liquor bottles later in young Jacks life.

Looks like I'm alone in my feeling of being tired of this show. I never like to feel as if I'm being emotionally manipulated ("Okay, now let's have the music swell so they really cry!") and this show seems to thrive on that. I'm also tired of the hamster wheel of Kate and Kevin and their inability to mature and stop doing the same stupid stuff.
I enjoyed seeing the new characters this week because at least I hadn't grown cynical about their ability to change. I'm still watching, for now, but it's definitely not appointment TV any more.

The last 3-4 episodes from last season are still on my DVR, unwatched. I don’t even have it on my season pass anymore. I lost interest last season. They lost me with the storylines.

Gave this show another chance b/c a friend of mine was talking about the first episode of the new season. I had planned to not watch. I liked the new characters except for maybe Malik. I don't think it's a huge problem if Desha's future spouse is a teen father that has stable parents and seems to be wanting to care and provide for his kid. I agree that I don't want Cassidy and Kevin to get together romantically; perhaps she could be a friend to Nicky- they help one another work through their issues and also encourages Kevin in sobriety and to mend relationships as she mends hers with her husband and son. I don't care about exploring more of Jack and Rebecca's story and how they got together and the hurdles of their courtship. They got together and made babies and loved each other and had horrible parents, the end. I also love the storyline with baby Jack; I really don't like Kate or Toby or even Kate and Toby together so perhaps seeing them both support their son will make them tolerable to me.

I think Kate is a lovely, and a very natural mother. Her realization that baby Jack would never actually watch a football game,( or their favourite team) was heartbreaking. Toby shedding the fat suit,I bet that feels good..the gym could help with his depression, but become a problem for Kate and Toby. I'm glad Randall is finally letting go, and the way Beth fussed about a haircut, I thought Tess was going to be bald, but she looked good. Deja and Malik, this could go either way.
I'm glad, the three strangers , are slowing arriving in the Pearson's lives.

I let the last 3 episodes pile up on my dvr and just watched them. I may keep doing that because nothing riveting is happening but yet I'm loyal till the end.

I still love the show, too, but think so far this season, it's just kind of slow and unremarkable, except for seeing baby Jack grown up. I can't get interested in the female soldier, and feel we know enough about Nicky ... he's an alcoholic and he hates people, yeah, we know. I just want more about the core family. The newer characters aren't that interesting to me.

At this point the only ones I care about are Toby, Tess, Miguel, and maybe a little Deja & baby Jack. The rest are just victimizing & emotionally manipulating everyone out of their own self centeredness.

Exactly what I did, & pretty much for the same reason. It's still on my season pass. I have the episodes I didn't watch from last season and all the ones so far from this season in case I decide to give it another go. But so far I'm not missing it, at all.

I am enjoying it. Kevin is in it a lot, that could be why. I love he purchased a lovely camper, set it next to Nicky and is starting a relationship with him..last week and the ice cream, perfect, Young Kate is dating an older, and it looks like he might be the cause, of her weight issues. Baby Jack is adorable. Tess is suffering panic attacks, just like Randall, and he feels so guilty.

I’d be happy to watch him follow them all around and make utterly true and slightly harsh statements about them like he did about Kevin (being terrible at relationships).

Kate is such a lovely mother I'm happy for her. I started a million little things, and that was quickly off our DVR ugh! We have so many choices, compared to years ago..lol

I just watched the first 6 episodes over the weekend. It kept my attention but definitely not as good as it was in the beginning. I'll probably stick it out because I want to see how they wrap it up.

Iliked the story about Randall and Jack and golf. Too much Kevin and his mess, and I didn't want him and Cassie together so now I'm just back to not caring about his life. Kate and Toby really should be in therapy- they have a lot going on right now and having to deal with baby Jack and all the feelings and emotions that come with it. It's no surprise to me if they do break up.

I enjoyed tonight's episode. I suppose you could call it a Meet The Parents night. I liked the way they alternated between the past & present situations, and showed how similar they were. I know they do this to some degree every week, but this weeks was extra well done. Maybe it's because Kate & Kevin were nowhere to be seen.

Pretty good episode this week. Rebecca is showing signs of dementia maybe? I love Malik! Beth was sure he was up to something and the look on her face when he told her Deja wants to see her mom, take that Beth! I loved Kevin seeing Jack instead of Nicky, I think it really hit home for him.
