I figured he was going to die in the hospital, but then it seemed like he was improving. Next he is discharged and went home. I'm thinking he may have wanted to die at home and not in hospital. Still was a shock when my son sent me the text this morning telling me of his death.
His troubles are over now, may he rest in peace.

Me too. Her autobiography is one of my favorites. (https://www.amazon.com/Lazy-Growing-Cattle-American-Southwest/dp/0812966732) I'm tempted to read it again.

Now this is a man who deserves all the accolades, flowers, and speeches ever. A noble man who ignored naysayers and told stories of a variety of people and viewpoints at a time when that wasn't what was done. "Good Times," "One Day at a Time," "Archie Bunker," "The Jeffersons," "Maude," etc are shows that still hold up today, and they tackled many sensitive subjects (Maude's abortion, Edith's attempted rape, interracial families, Ann's dilemmas as single mother raising two teenage girls, etc) with grace. Rest in peace, good sir.

The first movie that comes to mind with Ryan O'Neal is 'Love Story'. RIP, Ryan O'Neal.

Oh my God. Andre Braugher? I can't believe it. He was one of my favorite actors. Homicide: Life on the Streets was one of my favorite shows and Frank Pembleton was my favorite character. There was NO ONE better when Braugher's Pembleton got a suspect in the box. It was magic.
I'm so sad. 61 is far too young. He had so much more work to do and life to live

So upsetting. They say it was after a brief illness, which can be anything. And 61 is way too young.

H:LotS was filmed in Baltimore, my home town. He was definitely awesome in his portrayal of Frank Pembleton. Back when the show was still on the air, I went to Baltimore and walked around the neighborhood where they filmed. Somewhere in a box is a picture of me in front of the building they used for the exterior of the police station. There were shops there that had lots of H:LotS merch and we heard some stories about cast members too. Yaphet Kotto was apparently not very nice to fans. I didn't hear one negative thing about Andre Braugher. I really wish there weren't issues with the music licensing for the show, because I'd watch the heck out of that show if it was available on streaming. I can't afford the DVD box set at the moment.
Frank Pembleton will always be my favorite character of his, but he was a delight as Ri'Chard Lane on the final season of The Good Fight.
I've seen posts from his B99 co-stars, but I was waiting for this one. Their acting partnership was one of the all-time best on TV:

May he rest in peace. Matthew Perry Dead at 54 After Apparent Drowning: Report
Matthew Perry has reportedly died. He was 54.
The actor, who was best known for playing Chandler Bing on Friends, was found dead at a Los Angeles-area home on Saturday, TMZ reported, citing law enforcement sources. Law enforcement sources also confirmed Perry's death to the Los Angeles Times.
The outlet reported that Perry was found in a jacuzzi at the home, and no drugs were found at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told PEOPLE that officers responded to a call at Perry's address regarding the death of a male in his 50s, but would not confirm the deceased's identity.
TMZ was also told that there was no foul play involved, and their sources said first-responders were called to the residence for cardiac arrest.
Representatives for Perry did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
Matthew Perry's Cause of Death Determined: Friends Actor Died of 'Acute Effects of Ketamine'The Friends actor died due to acute effects of ketamine, according to an autopsy report obtained by PEOPLE. Drowning, coronary artery disease and buprenorphine effects (a medication used to treat opioid use disorder) were also listed as contributing factors in his death, which was ruled accidental. Ketamine is a "dissociative anesthetic that has some hallucinogenic effects," per the US Drug Enforcement Administration. It "distorts the perception of sight and sound and makes the user feel disconnected and not in control," and "can induce a state of sedation (feeling calm and relaxed), immobility, relief from pain, and amnesia." The autopsy states that Perry — who was "reportedly clean for 19 months" — was on ketamine infusion therapy, with his latest treatment taking place just "one and a half weeks before" his death. However, the coroner noted that "the ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy, since ketamine's half-life is 3 to 4 hours, or less." Per the autopsy, Perry's death occurred by "unknown route of drug intake." The coroner stated that Perry was found "in a residential pool," with prescription medications and loose pills present at his residence but "none reported near the pool" or "adjacent to the pool." The autopsy also notes that there were "no signs of fatal trauma or no foul play suspected." "At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression," the coroner states in the report. "Drowning contributes due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness."

Also very helpful for PTSD, and I think it’s also useful for dealing with some addictions.

Well, those are off-label uses and, sadly, the cause of Matthew Perry's death. He must have been doctor-shopping. I should have posted the first article I read and didn't because of all the screaming ads ... 'Friends' star Matthew Perry's cause of death revealed in autopsy reportThe medical examiner makes note that the amount of ketamine, a “dissociative anesthetic," found in his system was as high as 3,540 nanograms per milliliter; "levels for general anesthesia are typically in the 1,000-6,000 ng/ml ranges," the report notes. Though Perry was "reported to be receiving ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety," according to the report, "the ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy, since ketamine’s half-life is 3 to 4 hours, or less." The method of intake is unclear. "At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression," the report reads. "Drowning contributes due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness; coronary artery disease contributes due to exacerbation of ketamine induced myocardial effects of the heart." Buprenorphine, which was present at "therapeutic" levels, is also listed as a contributing factor due to "additive respiratory effects when present with high levels of ketamine." There were non-toxic levels of lorazepam, too.

Small doses of Ketamine can be therapeutic when used under a doctor and used exactly as prescribed. Unfortunately it has certain mood-altering properties that make it ripe for abuse, and if you take too much of it you can fall into what's known as the "K hole" where you're in this blank space unable to function. In addition, there's warnings against using hot tubs for all sorts of conditions. It's entirely possible that he accidently took too much, went into a K-hole while in the hot tub and drowned. Addiction is hard, and what makes it even harder is the judgement of others. IMO this report serves no other purpose than for people to point fingers and go "A-ha! I KNEW he wasn't sober" and feel better about themselves. My heart goes out to him, his friends, and his family.

A recovering addict friend shared what she knew of the abusive side of Ketamine. She has her own struggles, being prescribed opioids to control pain, which scares her.
I don't understand the judgment of others comment. Is that referring to the medical examiner report, reporters writing about the medical examiner report, or me for posting what the reporters said? More importantly, who would disagree that the entire situation is heartbreaking? Am I reading this wrong, for my feelings are hurt by what was said in the post?

In positive, lighter news, Mackenzie Scott (fka: Jeff Bezos's ex) has given 2.2 BILLION DOLLARS to organizations this year!
The total was 360 different non-profits across 35 states as well as countries like Kenya, India, and Brazil. These are organizations that are smaller/have issues getting funding/are often ignored and are as varied as access to housing, early learning, health equity, race and gender equity, and small museums. Most of Scott’s gifts stand out in the landscape of billionaire giving because they are relatively small (less than $10 million), no-strings-attached donations given (often unexpectedly) to local non profit organizations and charities. In fact, some organizations have said they thought it was a scam when they first got the call, LOL.
She gave a nice chunk of cash to a small museum in my community that will enable free admission for the forseeable future, as well as fund new exhibitions and activities. In a world where we hear about gross spending on yachts, private planes, and other billionaire indulgences Mackenzie realizes that you can only spend so much damn money in your lifetime and genuinely tries to make this world a better place.

No problem, Cuddles. There's been a few deaths that have really hit people hard recently (plus the holidays make one melancholy for loved ones who are no longer with us), and in my awkward way I wanted to bring some light into what is often a dark thread.

I know some of you watch Korean media and I have sad news; "Parasite" actor Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in Seoul yesterday. He was 48, and the circumstances surrounding his death are tragic. Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, two sons and siblings. I enjoyed him in "Parasite," "Cofee Prince," and other things, and this is really shocking and upsetting.
