Battle on the Beach - once again I loved everything Taniya and team did. Nice design and coastal colors - the only thing wrong was the electrical for the sconces being open, but that's fixable. Bonus points for the cool ceiling fan.
Team Alison - besides the sloppy paint, the rooms looked nice.
Team Ty - ugh, again with the dark curtains. And I was not a fan of the open "closets," which were just pipes with a wood shelf and a few hangars. The bamboo on the ceiling would have been much nicer if it were trimmed out with wood strips. It looked ratty as it was.
I can't believe they gave Ty's team half the win for that crappy room.

I know that made no sense to me unless they are doing for the vaulted ceiling otherwise that team has very sloppy craftsmanship.

Good Bones Season 6 Episode 9 - New Babies and New Neighborhoods - July 27, 2021
The Good Bones in a new neighborhood, the Near Eastside.
Again another house under contract before they even started the renovation. Another sign how crazy the real estate market has become.
Liked the house. Luv it when it looks smaller on the outside then the inside, it was over 2,500 sq ft. Nice lot size, nice concrete patio.
During the demo they made comments about the mature tree in the front yard but looking at the lighting when they showed off the finished product I have a feeling the tree was removed.
Yeah, Karen finally got to do her super strong lathe wall and it looked fantastic after it was cleaned up and polyurethaned.
I did like the picket style tile backsplash but the real looker was the marble picket style tile in the master bathroom. The ladies do understand how to do bathrooms and kitchens and how to reconfigure the houses to reflect a better flow and to how people live today. That is why it is so sad when I peruse Zillow and see renovated homes in Indianapolis but the flipper just painted the rooms, put in new finishes but the rooms remain the same, the bathrooms are still too tight, the kitchens awful, the spaces all chopped up.
I do like that the ladies stay true to their mission statement and vision for the community, but it is unfortunate in this crazy real estate market they make such little profit.
The other big reveal was the birth of Mina's daughter, Charlotte "Charlie" Drew Hawk on September 16, 2020. So at least we know approximately when the episode was filmed.

Battle on the Beach: With the bedrooms completed this week I can say that all of the houses have different, interesting themes developing. I read the article Bearcata posted about those homes being the places of people who have volunteered them to be on the show, and I think with the appropriate adjustments and fixes made all three houses will be great for their homeowners.
Team Taniyah: Wow. That beautiful dark green/black wooden chevron pattern behind the bed, and the colors used in the pillows/bedding are very Florida. They also smartly finished the wall paneling with a thin coat so it looked like they were removed but it wasn't. While I wasn't a fan of removing one of the closets I liked the steel sliding door leading to the bathroom in the bedroom. My jury is also out on that missing closet because apparently it's going in the bathroom and I want to wait to reserve full judgement on it. Their communication room was very...spicy in color? It was fun and I loved it, but they got caught out on the wonky light installation by the bed. Overall, very good. I can definitely see some lucky person living here. Hell, I wouldn't mind living here.
Team Ty: I almost turned this off when right off the bat evil ass Ty was like, "I know! Let's remove the closets and put in portables!" I mean, who asks for LESS closet space in their bedroom, Ty? Other than that, I really loved this room. I liked that this team uses a lot of natural elements in their work; the different sizes of driftboard acting as a headboard, the industrial concrete accent wall, and I adored the carved wooded door leading to the bathroom. The vaulting of the ceiling and the bamboo was a great idea but like what others in here have pointed out was done sloppily; that big seam running in the middle cheapened all their hard work. If they had made panels out of the bamboo and trimmed it out with wood strips, or had the "seam" where the natural crease in the ceiling was (plus run all the bamboo in the same direction) it would have been a showstopper. The portable closets were a big meh, reminded me a lot of closets in old school loft apartments where you create a bedroom nook for yourself in the corner and there aren't any built-in closets, and there is no excuse for that in a room that already had closets! I loved the grasscloth in the communication room but they tried to do too much with those ferns. Like Team Taniyah's rooms, with a few changes I can also see myself living their too; it's so easy, breezy, almost safari-like.
Team Alison: I don't know, I love Alison (she is queen of the kitchens) but I've always found her bedrooms...a little lacking. Like Team Taniyah, they used the paneling to create a beautiful accent wall but the paint job was kinda sloppy. Unlike Team Ty and Taniyah I actually had to play the "reveal" portion of the show again to remember what their bedroom and communication room looked like, and that's not a good sign. There was nothing wrong with their bed and communication rooms; there just wasn't anything that stuck out either. The communication room is a perfectly pretty space that I could find in any upscale hotel room or AirBnB. That's not to say they didn't do a good job because they did; it's just that it lacks a certain something the other two have in their spaces and I can't quite put my finger on it.
Excited for bathrooms tonight!

I liked the antique doors which were Indian, I think, but how does that related to cheap bamboo fencing stapled to the ceiling? They also stapled a sisal floor rug onto the wall of their communication room and it hung crookedly, which reads sloppy and amateur to me. Hated the driftwood headboard.

Battle on the Beach Season 2 Episode 4 - Battling the Bathrooms - August 1, 2021
5 days to finish two bathrooms?
Really?
Did anyone think that would go well?
Team Ty - Josh and Shonnie - wait for it, wait for it, wait for it. BAM! Massive meltdown from Josh. Cause he is not a winner. I am waiting for this guy to have a massive stroke or get a gun and shoot the cast, his wife and then himself, because he isn't a winner.
Poor decision making in this team. Pick a wall texture technique that takes hours to dry and needs multiple coats and do it in both bathrooms. Yet, some how 25 minutes before the judges arrive you go out and machete some plants. Do you remember the last time you did this both judges hated the way the ferns smelled?
I don't like their design esthetic, I don't like their sloppy craftsmanship, I don't like Josh's win at all costs meltdowns.
There was a certain point they should have concentrated all their efforts to complete one bathroom.
Did not like the black bathtub or black toilet. I can easily imagine someone walking into that bathroom at night and breaking a toe on that bathtub. There is a reason people get white bathtubs and toilets, it is easy to see where to clean.
I have seen wooden counter tops in bathrooms but they are sealed somehow, because water and wood are not a good combination.
I also dislike vessel sinks and they had two of them.
Team Taniyah - David and Kerry - Overall all I liked the bathrooms and spare room. However with only 7 days and 3 rooms you are going to miss something.
The missing closet, I see Scott McGilvery remove closets all the time on Vacation House Rules as the entire point of a vacation the vacationer does not bring their entire wardrobe and therefore does not need that much clothes storage.
Team Alison - Darryl and Sunjay - liked the bathrooms, they are keeping to their original color palette. I liked the little closet cubby in the one bathroom. I think Mike Holmes is nick picking on some of the issues.
I thought they would win.

Battle on the Beach - Team Ty continues to suck. Black tub, black tile, black toilet (?!) - yeah, that screams "beach!" to me. And that raw, rough wood used for the vanity top won't suck up splashed water, toothpaste, soap, hairsprays at all. Great choice. *thumbs up*
Team Taniya - I personally wouldn't care about the missing closet, there was a dresser with plenty of drawers to put clothes. They did mess up with the single mirror over the vanity and the slippery tile waiting for a lawsuit, but otherwise the rooms were nice.
Team Alison - again with the slick tile on the floor, but overall the rooms were pretty. The light fixture right next to the shower was weird, though, and I'm sure not to code.

It is a vacation property, the only thing they could add was maybe a hanging rod. In last week's episode where Team Ty took out the closet and put in hanging rods, how is that a closet, doesn't that make the master bedroom now a non-bedroom? Yes, the single mirror was a mistake. I do wonder if the teams will have a chance to go back and fix stuff, especially some of the electrical issues. I notice that Mike Holmes didn't say anything about the light fixture in the shower surround for Team Ty. How did he miss that? I do totally agree about Team Ty sucking.

Mike pointed out the wall sconce on the wall between the mirror and start of the shower tile. This light is on drywall not shower tile. Look at the back wall of the shower stall, on the top right, they have another light there and that is the one I am talking about. It is surrounded by the shower tile.

Good Bones - I have to say, I didn't care for the black upper cabinets in the kitchen. I prefer darker lowers with light uppers if you're going for the two-toned look, but that's just me. Staircase was gorgeous, catwalk was neat, exterior colors nice as usual. Weren't there several bathrooms? They only showed the one.

Good Bones Season 6 Episode 6 - Big Build, Big Risk - August 3, 2021
Back in Southside, the crew buys a new build that was not completed for $100,000. It is over 2,800 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathroom, and a powder room, corner lot with lots of trees. Has a full basement and a attached garage to the rear of the home. Very tall ceilings.
Pranks - letting trees fall on cars.
Cory - crawling on the catwalk because of his fear of heights.
Question - I am curious as to who or how they will ever change the light bulbs on that light fixture at the top of the house?
As always the team knows how to pick colors and finishes for their projects.
Kitchen cabinets. I like two tone cabinets. I do prefer that the bottom cabinets be darker and the uppers be lighter. Occasionally have one of the upper cabinets be darker. I did like the matte black color the team ended up using on the upper cabinets. Overall the kitchen cabinets looked nicer then I thought they would.
I did wonder if they fenced in the other side of the house, the side yard by the road?

Christina on the Coast - August 5, 2021
Christina has a new neighbor who hates color and only wants white in the house with silver and metallics and doesn't let let her husband even wear a navy blue tee shirt.
Another episode where the client insists on having wooden floors in the bathroom. In what world does having a wooden floor in a bathroom make sense, and in the toilet room. Idiots! Hope the water and pee mess the floor up in the first 6 months.
Shiplap + herringbone + white on white on white + $45,000 to $50,000 budget + clients thinking Christina provides brilliant design choices = blatant stupidity
Oh, Christina puts in a sisal rug, in the spare bedroom, removes the beanbags, moves the desk, adds some yoga mats, and exercise equipment and charges the client a $1000. The client couldn't think of this on her own? Unbelievable.

Christina on the Coast - wow, that woman was annoying. I don't see what's "Southern glam" about a house so white it could cause snow blindness, but whatever. Maybe the glass doorknobs made it "glam." I wish they'd have let the husband have his navy cabinets, those would have been nice. I laughed at the $1000 yoga room. I can find a sisal rug on Amazon for 100 bucks and a couple of yoga mats at Five Below and save a whole lot of money. Scooting furniture around is free. And I agree about wood floors in the bathroom - yuck. I need tile or vinyl that can be scrubbed and hold up to cleaners.

Oh I caught an episode of the new show Breaking Bland - not bad. I probably won't like everything she does, but she's not afraid of colors and it's based in Charleston, so I'll probably stick with it. I am liking that HGTV is doing these test runs with Breaking Bland and Sell in a Week and $50K Three Ways and getting back to design shows and not flipping shows, and with more realistic budgets that are not over $100,000. Breaking Bland and $50K Three Ways may move a wall but they do not gut the homes and they also focus on function and thankfully move away from the same tile and color palette we see endlessly on Flip or Flop and Christina on the Coast. I liked the tile floor and tile carpet in both homes on the Breaking Bland episodes. I was very dubious of using drab olive as a cabinet color, and was thrilled that the designer used a brighter yellow olive. The yellow olive green cabinets looked great against the copper cabinet pulls and lighting fixtures. Luv'ed the charcoal colored island. I do like islands that are a combination island and kitchen table and over a tile rug, that was a wow moment. Also changing out the angled wall to a straight one totally changed the feel of that kitchen from a cramped area to wide open. I am not a fan of green but I would be very happy with that kitchen in my house. I also appreciate that the designer is not afraid of color and just by painting the walls absolutely changed the one families game room to a family/kids room. It is totally refreshing not to have control freak wives who are afraid of color featured on these shows.

Furniture is not cheap and these wife really seemed to spend money like there is no tomorrow, that just rubs the wrong way.

HGTV aired Sell in a Week series based in the NYC area using a designer who also stages homes for sale. The budgets were low, $9000 and $10,000. I am sorry but some of the painting looked like crap. Who paints kitchen cabinets like that? Will the paint even stay on when the new owners come in. I am always amazed how people don't understand the basics of decluttering, depersonalizing, neutralizing, and clean, clean, cleaning your home to get it ready for sale.

FYI: www.foxnews.com/entertainment/christina-haack-criticizes-instagram-users-leaving-negative-comments-posts-joshua-hall-boyfriendWhere to start? You post your life on Instagram, for the whole world to see. This means you invite people into your life and part of social media is leaving comments. Are you totally ignorant how people turn on each other in social media. When you invite someone in don't be shocked when they get nasty. DUH! Then you present yourself as the first of the HGTV Housewives of Real Estate. Then there is the issue of turning your feelings of and on so quickly regarding the men, the love of your life. You hadn't even divorced your second husband and you were dating the new love of your life. The stupidity of getting upset about this boggles the mind. What I don't understand is if you are so busy flying to Tennessee to your new farmhouse, going out with your new boyfriend, being on Instagram, filming two tv shows, when do you have time to be a good mother, take care of your children, organize your friend's wedding, much less manage a design business? Do the words "fake", "manufactured", "staged", "publicity whore", come to mind?

Battle on the Beach - I actually didn't hate Team Ty's room for once, it was quite nice. The beds, reclaimed wood stairs and storage nooks were a good use of space. And no stupid black curtains!
Team Taniya - the boat dock beds were really cute and bumping that wall out gave some needed space, but that sandbox has got to go. I get the idea, but it's a huge mess waiting to happen. The climbing wall was a good idea.
Team Alison - this room was okay. I didn't love the "bridge" bed covering the window, and they should have known not to have a tall, unsecured bookcase in a kids room. Easy fix, though.

How can you use the trundle bed when there is a swinging chair hanging over a third of it? As for Team Taniya's sand box, cute idea, nice photo op, but not practical, put in a mattress instead that way that room can sleep 4.

Battle of the beach : bedrooms
Was there some discussion about allowing beds next to windows? I did not see any safety equipment in place around the windows. I know my grand children would likely fall through or break a window if it was next to the bed. Also, the bed that was 7 feet off the floor and had no safety rails gave me the willies. Again, it looked like a opportunity to go to the ER.

Christina on the Coast vs Vacation House Rules
I am the first one to say that Christina Haack uses a color palette of white, with black accents, and is currently adding a a white oak wood element to the point of utter boredom. However on a recent episode of Vacation House Rules, Debra the designer used a similar palette of winter white, blue grey, and a pop of green and it looked fabulous. I ask myself how does Debra's design look fresh and Christina's looks blah but they use the same colors. I think part of it was that were a lot of different textures that were white. In the dining room they painted all the wood and brick white, a grey vinyl plank floor, dark grey or black baseboards and trim, and black lighting, and some black cabinets. I was amazed how good it looked, how comfortable. In all the bathrooms the walls were a dark charcoal with darker trim, that balanced out the main rooms that were all white. Again a lot of texture was included, with grey sofas, wood tables, leather chairs, metal bookcases in black and grey. I liked how the downstairs mudroom was also the dark grey with black, wood, and some white accents. Using a light sage green in the downstairs kitchenette backsplash was nice as was the green ceiling in the downstairs family room. The bedrooms where mainly white with very light grey, very light green, or very light beige accents with lots of texture in the materials so nothing was boring, there were interesting textures in every part of the room. Overall, I saw the basic color palette of white, grey, and black used properly.

Battle on the Beach: I'm about a week behind the rest of you but I've noticed something about this show that is offputting. All three teams are supposed to be "experienced flippers" yet they are making newbie mistakes; all 3 teams managed to not install anti-skid floors in their bathrooms and I can't see anyone having any experience with flipping neglecting that. Hell, even Christina Haacke probably installs anti-slip floors in her projects so what's these people excuse? Same with the wooden elements in the bathroom; if you seal wood countertops in the kitchen it doesn't take a genius to figure out you need to do that with the bathroom as well. I really liked the wooden slab in Ty's team bathroom but it should have been sealed properly, and another team also had a wooden base that wasn't sealed! Don't get me started on them putting electric lights and outlets too close to water surfaces in spite of Mike pointing this out last week! Ugh. Team Ty needs to learn better time management, stop being sloppy, and the husband needs to stop crowing about "being the best" and "winning" and help his wife. The sad part is I think they have some interesting ideas but the sloppy way they are implemented makes me want to yank my hair out. I was like "Whatever" about all of the bathrooms except for Team Alison; they had that cool Harry Potter cupboard in the bathroom for extra storage, and putting extra beds in the spare room is a good idea for a vacation home where they probably charge per person. The room was nice and I can see why they won. The spare room I absolutely loved was with Team Taniyah; luvluv that wood patterned accent wall and the bed that looked like it was hanging with ropes. It was industrial, yet homey. Another thing to take in consideration is that the winner is also being considered for a future flipping show on HGTV and just being honest I really don't want to watch any of these people on TV. When your mentors are outshining you as far as personality is concerned that's not good.

And I feel the same, I wouldn't really want to watch any of these teams in their own show. Also, enough with the flipping shows. I want some damn gardening/curb appeal shows again.
