Yep. They mentioned it on the HGTV website, and all I have to say is thank goodness for the mentors making these people seem interesting.

Christina on the Coast - another white/gray/black masterpiece. Yippee. I could have sworn she said something about using color on the backsplash in the beginning but that didn't happen.
They set it up to feature her new house in Tennessee in an upcoming show, I guess.

Thank goodness the messy house show with Jasmine Roth and the Boise Boys new show are coming soon. I want to see color. Help, I Wrecked My House.Check out Breaking Bland, the is loads of color all over. There was an all white kitchen with pops of pink, yellow, and blue. It was fabulous. Christina's clients would all cringe, and cry, and run out of the rooms full of color on this show.

Good bones Season 6 Episode 7 - Claire's Crooked Cottage - August 10, 2021
It was so nice to see the ladies hired to update a well maintained home and put on a master bedroom suite and build a two car garage at the back of the property. I am glad to see Two Chicks and a Hammer have other construction projects besides flipping/renovating falling down wrecks. There must be a real wave of mid century modern hitting the mid west as I think MJ is huge influence on the house designs and you see it in the Boise Boys homes also. I do miss Karen's boho bursts of color.
I must admit that I adore all the huge front porches on these old homes. They are nice and deep and covered and perfect to hang swinging day beds.
While the owner's daughter, Claire likes green, the 2Chicks Team balances it nicely through out the house. I did like the dark sage green beadboard accent in the master bedroom and the sconces were fabulous.
While Mina is a die hard Carrara marble fan, I do like that they like to change up the style and shape of the tile used for the kitchen backsplash and the for the master bathroom shower surround.
This was a house on a nice big lot, so even with the garage build you still have a useable backyard.
The prices in Fountain Square have gone up and the house was bought for $190,000 with a renovation budget of $180,000. The $180,000 got them a brand new two car garage. New siding, new exterior paint, fixed the crooked roof line, opened up the interior space (living, dining, and kitchen), all new paint inside, new fireplace surround, bookcases, new kitchen, add an addition (going from 1,200 sq ft to 2,000 sq ft) including a new bathroom and laundry mudroom area.(going from 1,200 sq ft to 2,000 sq ft)

I watched it on Discover+ and really enjoyed it. The person who won was not only talented but also really engaged the camera like David Bromstead and the 50k 3 ways lady. I think that's really important when you're hosting a show.

They set it up to feature her new house in Tennessee in an upcoming show, I guess. When she suggested using a black glass tile and glass for a backsplash for the bar, I almost upchuck. It would have looked horrible. $78,000 for a kitchen remodel, and a new fireplace façade, vinyl plank floors, no walls taken down, a small window covered up. What is with these prices. I want to put new flooring on the first floor of my home, paint the walls and ceilings, and yes put in a new kitchen. I was at Home Depot and the kitchen specialist gave me a ballpark figure of $40,000. For almost twice that all Christina does is the kitchen and the living room. For what, the high design?

Battle on the Beach Season 2 Episode 6 - Battling the Exteriors - August 16, 2021
The realtor's appraisals: 1. $877,000 2. $873,000 3. $822,000
Well, the final battle is to finish the exteriors in 3 days and a half a day and another $2,000 to fix all the mistakes.
Team Ty - Shonnie and Josh - want to win so Shonnie firmly states that all the money will be for the exterior and that they will fix none of the mistakes the judges pointed out because who cares about those. When she said that I was totally disgusted, and I would never buy anything from this team, because they don't care, they only care about winning. They craftsmanship is also very sloppy.
They made their exterior charcoal black. While visually interesting in hot climates people simply do not paint their homes black because black absorbs heat.
The outdoor tub, how is the water emptied from that tub, I didn't see a valve in the bottom of that tub.
They used their money to buy a movie projector???? The screen a bed sheet cut in two to make a crooked, wavy screen. Where were the speakers?? There was no outdoor dining area and limited seating. I was not impressed.
Is anyone surprised this team's home was valued at $822,000 and they came in LAST.
Team Alison and Team Tanyiah - did address the fixes they could. I do wonder if they fixed everything? The small stuff I could see them doing and I would have had a handy man do those fixes and I would focus on the exterior. The judges did notice if stuff was fixed vs not being fixed. I do think it was a toss up between the remaining two teams. Not unhappy with the winner, either team would have been OK with me.

I was happy with the Battle on the Beach winner, but would have been fine with Team Alison winning too. I did prefer Taniya's team's house, if I were to go stay a week that one would be my first pick.
Totally agree on Team Ty's dark gray exterior - we just don't do that down here - and while the horse trough/tub was cute, I didn't see a way to drain it. The "movie screen" was stupid, it's usually pretty windy on the beach and nobody wants to watch a movie on a sheet flapping in the wind.
I would have LOVED to see the breakdown on the house valuations and why they priced Ty's over $50K less than the others. Ouch.
Happy for the winners but I do not want to see them in their own show.

I do like the current batch of pilots which HGTV is airing based more on renovations without tearing down walls and gutting the house. There is color, wonderful pops of color, and pattern, and meaningful design, and wonderful functionality with no walls coming down.

They had so many instances with sloppiness and mistakes that just fixing them would have went a long way towards making the house look great. I had a certain amount of goodwill towards that couple that instantly went away the minute she said that. And what is up with them always using bed sheets for things? I'll bet that had a lot to do with why their house was so devalued in the final.
I'm happy for the winners but they are like Magnolia Channel refugees and I'm just not interested in seeing them host their own show. I do have to say that their spare bedroom in the bathroom episode with the wooden accent wall and the hanging rope bed was my favorite room in the entire series. I liked Team Alison but again, not enough to watch them host their own show.

I noticed that in the master bedroom where Josh and Shonnie removed the closets and put in hangers there really was not space for the hangers to hang straight, and there were those curtains behind the hangers that were basically unusable. They did the same for the one other bedroom where they had no closet but put in a hanger, again it was so close to the wall the hangers could not hang properly. Did you notice there were the only team NOT to put in a table for outdoor dining on the deck. I do think also their decision to not use drywall and to leave the awful paneling may have been a big reason why the renovated home was not evaluated as high as the other two. What I don't understand is if they didn't use drywall, what did they spend the money on? I do think if they had installed proper hanging systems in the two bedrooms, framed the drop cloth and the sisal rug they stapled on the walls and ceilings that would have helped the look of their home. I think the movie projector outside on the deck was a waste of money and would have been better spend on a firepit lounge area under the house with a proper screen if you wanted a decent movie night.

There is are two more hours of Battle of the Beach set to air next Sunday showcasing behind the scenes clips and visits from celebrities. Yeah, I'll probably skip that one. I can see the janky paneling devaluing the house a bit, but 50K is a big hit. The stupid pipes they hung in place of closets sucked - who wants their clothes dragging on the wall? A lot of their stuff looked like bad DIY projects. I still wish they'd have had the agents say exactly what they liked/didn't like in each house.

Good Bones: Season 6, Episode 8 - From Warehouse to Storefront - August 17, 2021
I do give the ladies mucho credit for starting a store in the middle of a pandemic. It is so refreshing to see a "flipping" show also be so invested in growing their community and helping local artisans. I also like how the Good Bones Team works with the city to help refurbish some of these buildings. I do like how Karen does her research about the warehouse they bought and are transforming into the 2 Chicks District Co store, that it used to be the Lincoln Theater.
This show gives me joy vs watching that vapid creature on Christina on the Coast drinking champagne and buying farmhouses in Tennessee.

I've seen pics Mina posted of their new shop so I knew what it looked like inside. Pretty cool that it used to be an old theater, and I'm glad they could save parts of the outside. I hope it does well!
Watched a few episodes of Cheap Old Houses, it was interesting. They don't show any renovations, just travel around and highlight older houses, the history behind them and architecture in different areas of the country.

The other team sealed theirs. Team Ty did not (which was one of many reasons why they deserved to be last). Let me clarify on this. In the initial bathroom walk through there were two teams that had a wooden base they didn't seal; Team Ty and another team. When they were given the chance to straighten things out at the end the other team opted to have the areas of their home that were originally not up to snuff fixed while Team Ty opted to not fix the things in their house and decided to have that bootleg theater setup instead. They would have been much better served tweaking the items in their house that needed it (the sink, the backdrop in the living room, the loose stair railing, etc). Like I said, they had a lot of interesting ideas that would have been great had they implemented them correctly but they let their need to "win" override their common sense.
