" I never thought I would say this about Christina but she is easily the more likable of the two; sure she's licked some toads and gets married at the drop of a hat but from what I've seen she's gone on with her life and ..." I don't watch either of the shows these 2 have done, but thanks for my morning giggle, Kao.

Can't do these two. Her voice gets on my nerves. It's like Tarek and her are trying to hard to be this power couple. HGTV needs to change up their shows and get new people. I watch very little of HGTV anymore. Just based on the comments I will watch this week. Tarek was incredibly mean and nasty to Christina during their separation and divorce. While successful his cockiness and arrogance from having a business that thrived was very in your face. Then he started to dress hip hop. I thought it was a tad delusional. I watched the episodes where he met and married wife two and it looked as if he settled down and grounded himself. It looked as if he was finally happy but I really didn't want to watch T & Clone Two. The last couple of projects they did were very black & gold, and black, and black.

OMGosh. What the heck happened? Heather sounds like a total airhead. She is acting like a 8 yr old at a sleep over. The women sold high end real estate in Los Angeles she cannot be stupid but she is acting like a blonde ditz and Tarek is trying to get her to be a totally submissive wife. If Heather is trying to act like Christina it is NOT WORKING.
I don't care about the baby and posting on your social media. This is BAD.

Rock the Block : started last night.
Wish I would have took notes…lol
I didn’t like the winning kitchen. No to the brick floors. Wouldn’t they be cold on the feet in the winter and a pain to clean. They liked the logs hanging from the ceiling in the small bathroom how are they attached will one hit me in the head one day….lol plus I can just see the spiders loving them. No to the wine rack either or was that another persons. I did like the idea of a bigger pantry with extra fridge , wish they would have added a bigger freezer too…lol the open shelves were a no too and covered the windows.
The boys kitchen: when they said the house was too small for a family and was for a single person I thought what! I said the same thing about the cupboards how do you get to the top ones. Didn’t like the doors , looked old to me.
Can’t remember who had the glass cabinets they looked like they should have been bigger , lots of empty space on the side of them. I liked the stone work 2 teams used. Yes didn’t like the chandelier either in that dining room.
I liked Bryan and? the last one the best. . They had all that storage down the hall to the mud room…loved that room big and had closets .
Not sure I would want to walk around 2 islands either though…lol

Rock the BlockNot sure if it's my thing this time around as this is for the high-end luxury market. I mean, two kitchens in the house (as opposed to an ADU)? All that marble? Nope. With that said, I really liked Jonathan and Christina's the best, even though it had that dreaded marble backsplash. I appreciate that they didn't give me a white kitchen. Where their design really shined was in the smaller kitchen because it was awesome. I absolutely loved it; it was cozy, warm, and I would love to kick back there with a nice coffee. I just had an overall good feeling seeing that kitchen and vastly preferred it to the main one. I also liked the logs on the ceiling in the bathroom they had going. I appreciated the fact that Christina recognized that the brick on the floor they initially ordered was too rough (plus half of them were broken) to use for the kitchen floor and course corrected with a more apropriate brick but can relate to Antony saying he grew up with one and it exfoliated his feet constantly because they can be rough on bare feet. My second fav would be Anthony and Michel. LuvLuv those antique doors they found and stained. They have a taste for minimalism that I love; their dining room was my favorite because while there wasn't a lot, what was there was well proportioned and designed. However, they gave us a white kitchen with high cabinets so no. I've loved Anthony ever since he was a contestant on Project Runway, and I'm glad he's having a decent second career. While I can see the attraction to Paige and Mitch's property and it's aesthetically pleasing it's a little too high-brow for me. That is a kitchen you see in a showroom but not in a home with real people. Bryan and Sarah's was high-brow as well but there was a certain easy-breezy comfort there; it reminded me of sand, surf, and California. What that said, who wants (or even needs) 2 huge kitchen islands?

I have several friends who have built homes with two islands. One for prepping/serving and one for dining/homework. Although, I think that Anthony and Michael's served the same purpose with the high/low counters/seating.

I would imagine your friends also have open layouts/the square footage to support that sort of thing which can be a luxury. Not my thing, but it doesn't mean others can't find it useful, and if it works for them why not?

Rock The Block - Season 4 Episode 1 - Kitchen Face-Off - March 6, 2023
1. The Team: Kristina Crestin and Jonathan Knight - “Modern Farmhouse”
What is with the second kitchen? In the good old days houses had closed off kitchens so no one could see the mess. So you have a second kitchen totally separate from the main living area and you are trapsing dirty dishes to a rather small sink and NO DISHWASHER? Please let it make sense.
As for the powder room ceiling, I would have been more impressed if the logs had been smoothed out and the ends sealed with some kind of sealant instead of leaving it rough cut.
2. The Team: Michel Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle - “Mountain Modern”
M&A think a 5000 sq ft home does not scream family, that it screams a single person? To be honest I have toured 5000 sq ft homes they are to the point too big.
I really liked the two tier island. I cannot stand barstools. They are not comfortable to sit in and hard to get in and out off. Who wants to sprain an ankle on the way down.
Did not like all the brown paneling on the island or pantry. It was BROWN.
3. The Team: Page Turner and Mitch Glew - "Alpine Chic"
Liked the more modern touch of their design.
4. The Team: Bryan and Sarah Baeumler - “Aspen Chalet”
Was a tad concerned with all the walls coming down but it looked great. However didn't it feel a tad crowded with two islands, and eat in place on one island, a dining area, and a breakfast nook. How many tables and chairs do you need for eating?
All the teams had chandeliers in the dining room so why were Sarah and Bryan called out?
After seeing Sarah and Bryan's open concept the other houses seemed small and cramped.
Oh, they got criticized for the mudroom laundry area being too big and may need some separation of space? Are you nuts.
Summary:
HGTV may have gone too far with the concept of the shell of the home being 1.5 million in the year 2023 were people are having a hard time being able to afford a starter home much less find one. I feel these homes are so far out of reach for the normal working person that it is a bit of a slap in the face.
I don't have 15 foot ceilings. I don't have 5000 sq ft of home plus a 1500 sq ft basement. The idea of two kitchens is a bit much. I do not have a working oven and am using a toaster oven, which actually works quite well for my needs. Three of the burners on the stove work and with a microwave what else do you need. Does HGTV even understand what a regular working family wants or needs anymore?
Don't get me started on Kristina calling the original pantry small. I wish my pantry was that small.
If I was living in Colorado (or not), yes I want a mudroom, a dog washing station, a toilet, a people washing station aka a shower, and a laundry room at the back entry off the garage into the home. It not only makes sense but it is practical especially in a state where I would be focused on having an active out door life and possibly pets and kids who would get muddy and dirty. I would want it very well planned with good flow.
None of the 4 houses quite hit the mark perfectly on that aspect. That missing DISHWASHER was a HUGE MISS.
I liked that Sarah and Bryan took the biggest risk taking all the walls down and making sure each way you turned you could see the view.
I thought S&B would win for taking the largest construction risk. I think all the teams had good points.

I thought S&B would win for taking the largest construction risk. I think all the teams had good points. I agree wholeheartedly. While it's fun to browse houses you can't afford on Zillow how is any of this remotely relatable? 1.5 million dollar homes in CO? I love space, but who needs 5000 feet of space, plus an additional 1500 basement? And even though I liked Jonathan's second kitchen a lot who the hell needs 2 kitchens right next to each other, and why? There's already a giant kitchen with all the bells and whistles but you have to have an additional kitchen too? And what slays me is there was two teams that thought this was a good idea!
We live in an era where we have 30 year olds living with their parents because they've been priced out of buying a home and tons of people have decided to just rent because they can't afford to buy but HGTV is showing us house shells for 1.5 million? That's just...

The two kitchens thing ... in an open concept home which shows everything you need a second kitchen without a dishwasher to hide the dirty dishes. Wouldn't it be better and easier to put the kitchen in its own separate room? Oh, if you want to listen into the conversation use baby monitors.

Rock the Block - whaaat is going on? When did double islands and two kitchens become a thing? I hate it. And the guy who declared that a 5000 sq. ft. house is for a single person - what planet does he live on? I'd rather have one big island instead of navigating in/around two. And I'm not toting dirty dishes to an entirely different room, then having TWO kitchens to clean. I liked parts of the rooms, but didn't love any of them overall. I hope the season goes better than the first episode.

Is that brown tile in that one bathroom? Is that beige square tile in the other bathroom, with beige floor tile? I have such a look of disgust on my face from seeing those photos. Is that a mini fireplace on a sideboard by the feature wall in the living room? WTF! Why are there 100 photos? There really are 50 photos posted twice. Do these people not care about selling their product. Just a big gut wrenching vomit inducing no to the design.

There's wooden stripes with blue tile backsplash in the kitchen, the beautiful wooden beams and ceiling were painted white, and that's as far as I got. I noticed they posted like 4 pictures of the view right off the bat. No one seriously into MCM is going to buy that house at that price point because they pretty much ruined it.

The Flipping El Moussas - this week's mess was a Spanish style home. Heather hired an interior designer to come in and do what I thought she was supposed to do - design. Everything ended up black and white and not very Spanish - I guess the stucco on the outside and arch on the fireplace made it Spanish modern? The floor was way too dark, almost black, and will show every speck of dust. Everything else was pretty basic and unremarkable. Izzy showed up as the contractor, so I guess Tarek got custody of him in the divorce. Heather wore open toed shoes to a walk through, squealed about a roach, and introduced their new candle/blanket/home accessory line that I will never waste money on. I just saw that she had "Yes sir, Mr. El Moussa" tattooed on her buttcheek and I honestly don't know what to say...

My mouth is hanging open. "Yes sir, Mr. Moussa" sounds like...the sort of games that maybe we shouldn't be discussing on a family-friendly forum. :x There is nothing remotely healthy about any of this, or about how they present their relationship because I damn sure know Tarek isn't walking around with a "Yes Ma'am, Mrs. Moussa" tattoo. And teaching your kids that "Daddy is the boss" and other gender roles is gross.
Time for a palate cleanser.
Nate and Jeremiah Home Project: It's interesting how this show and "Outgrown" have similar premises but this show is successful while Outgrown...wasn't. I love how they work with different people/families to determine where they are at in life, and what belongings should continue the journey with them or go to another home. This week was a NYC transplant couple who found this wonderful house on a hill to buy in preparation of adopting their second child. The house was lovely and big enough but had a very awkward layout and the rooms were kinda wonky (especially on the second floor). A nice surprise was the two ten dollar bills dated 1934 the original contractor put inside of a wall that they found. This couple had a lot of interesting things they wanted to keep for the house as well. It was nice that they made a distinct difference between the adult bedroom area in the house and the more child-free areas, and they converted what was once a nook area off the living room into a nursery/future bedroom for the new baby.

Why in the world are they advertising to the entire world about it. Why are all these celebrities telling us about their trans kids, their wonky vaginas, their open marriages and wifey is dating son's best friend. TOO MUCH! I DON'T CARE. It makes you look like a fool to the entire world. I imagine world leaders reading TMZ and People to find out what those decadent American fools are doing today and laughing their behinds off. Tarek it does not make you look like a man it makes you look like an idiot. Even moreso Heather.

I just saw that she had "Yes sir, Mr. El Moussa" tattooed on her buttcheek and I honestly don't know what to say... I noticed that the trailers for the show, the ads for the show, and the intro are pushing this theme of flipping elevated homes. OK. Then on Rock the Block the shell of the homes are 1.5 million dollars. OK. We are having a huge housing shortage again in this country. Jobs are growing. The unemployment rate its down. Weirdly enough there are people who can't find jobs and are losing their homes, there are homeless, and there are working people that just cannot afford that down payment to get into a home. Regular home prices at least in the big cities are high. So why the heck does HGTV smack people in the face with homes the majority of Americans cannot afford? I will tell you the homes in the first two episodes of this series at not elevated homes. The home tour Tarek and Clone Two did, well that was an elevated home. I am at the point they need to call Christina back. Then there was the branding by developing a line of candles, scents, and accessories to use in staging. Because if it smells good someone will buy the house and they will charge more. Ahh, hard NO. In one sense it seems the producers are trying to recreate the chemistry Christina and Tarek had with Clone Two and Tarek and it is not working. Clone Two was not bad when I watched the engagement episodes, here her acting is so bad, she can't design crap, and this theme of elevated materials is just falling flat. Christina and Tarek were competitive with each other and she called him on his bullshit. I didn't always like it as at times they could get combative but it made the show work. Clone Two is not naturally like that and the idea of trying to recreate Christina's attitude with Clone Two's very, very bad acting is a total fail. I am NOT a Christina fan and it is painful to see what is happening, it is just sad. Anyone notice there is absolutely no design done on the episodes. Even less on episode two. When the clone was talking to the designer you really did not get a good shot of the materials of one of those 3D sketches. The after walkthroughs were totally underwhelming and I didn't see the design discussions before hand, didn't see a sampling of the materials. If this supposed to be "see how successful I have become" with Tarek thumbing his nose at Christina it is a total fail. Why were the rails on the front of the house not painted black? It would have fit into the theme of pseudo Spanish. That wood product for the front deck Izzy showed Tarek. That product has been around for years. Ikea even has a version. It is not new. In regards to Clone Two saying that black wood floors are back and that they are ahead of the trend...NO. Married to Real Estate is on right after this mess and when you watch that episode that is what I want to see. It is the standard format of meeting the clients, touring homes, and Egypt presenting the client a picture of what the house can be. You see the construction and are walked through the design process, you see the materials, you are given a 3D sketch of the finished product, then you have a beautiful walkthrough of the finished product and you can see the added value, the updates. A side by side comparison of The Flipping El Moussa's and Married to Real Estate gives TFEM an F and Married to Real Estate and A+.

Nate and Jeremiah Home Project: It's interesting how this show and "Outgrown" have similar premises but this show is successful while Outgrown...wasn't. I love how they work with different people/families to determine where they are at in life, and what belongings should continue the journey with them or go to another home. I'm really enjoying how Nate and Jeremiah interact with their clients, they're so warm and welcoming. BUT is it just my imagination that Nate is so often surly with Jeremiah, and standoffish and condescending? Jeremiah makes so many (on the air) comments about how he wishes Nate would be more affectionate with him, and Nate just doesn't seem to want to hear that! It's really kind of upsetting to watch, cause Jeremiah looks really hurt when he does that.

Also Nate's first partner was killed in the Sri Lanka tsunami while Nate survived. That is a deep level of hurt. Nate did not meet Jeremiah until 2012 and they got married in 2014. Nate is a lot more relaxed around the kids, and he really opens up talking about his passion regarding "old junk".

Jeremiah's nature is just more open, and there's nothing wrong with that. You can see Nate open up and is more warm when they're with the children. Their personality types mesh and they work well together.

True, Nate is quite a bit older than Jeremiah, but I don't think that's the problem. Nate was so incredibly devastated when his beloved partner, Fernando was killed. I remember that time well. (And I remember that Nate was very much a PDA guy with Fernando!) I think that perhaps Nate has never completely recovered from his loss of Fernando, and maybe that's why he can't be as freely loving to Jeremiah. In any event, I feel sad for Jeremiah when Nate is curt with him on tv. I think they're both such lovely men, I hope they're both very happy in their marriage when they're in their private life!

Rock the Block Season 4 Episode 2 - Living Room Face-Off - March 13, 2023
The living room is right off the kitchen and this weeks project scope includes the foyer and powder room. Some of the teams removed the powder room that was next to the pantry during kitchen week, with some removing it completely and some moving it to another spot. The teams also had to set up a plan for how the outside of the home would look as they needed to start now to be done by the end of the show.
For the outside all the teams are using stone or stone alternative, a wood siding (cedar), regular siding.
For the living room and foyer all the couples added a fireplace, a powder room, and did the stairs to the lower level. So who did it best?
1. The Team: Kristina Crestin and Jonathan Knight - “Modern Farmhouse”
Fireplace was made of dark brick laid out soldier style, had to be painted black as it looked more brown than black.
Accordion doors.
Powder Room - hated the black and white plaid with a twist wallpaper, way too busy and icky looking.
Added wireless sound system with the $1000 they won during the kitchen episode.
2. The Team: Michel Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle - “Mountain Modern”
Light and bright. Luv'ed the porcelain that looked like marble fireplace and the built in daybed/doggie bed.
Their fireplace was my favorite because of the length and because of the daybed.
Accordion windows replaced the two French doors.
Stone on the floor in the foyer, great for snow and muddy days.
Powder room. Green accent color door. Dark wall paper - read single, sexy bachelor lives here.
Beetlewood stained black covered the ceiling, looked very nice. Judges didn't like that there was no chandelier, but to be honest would have blocked the view.
3. The Team: Page Turner and Mitch Glew - "Alpine Chic"
Fireplace, dark looked like stone but was porcelain, built in library style bookshelves with lighting and a library ladder.
Powder Room a touch too modern and contemporary but OK for the Powder Room.
Accordion doors to the deck and view.
4. The Team: Bryan and Sarah Baeumler - “Aspen Chalet”
Took out the original French Doors, and put in a see through fireplace and put the French doors on either side of the fireplace. You can use the fireplace from either side. The fireplace box was rather tall and the judges complained it blocked the view. I though it would have been better had the fireplace box was shorter by two feet and put in a picture window above.
Put stone on the feature wall and down the stairwell to the lower level.
Beautiful lighting.
Cedar on the ceiling.
Summary:
Felt it was kind of a wash.
The judges liked Page's fireplace and bookcases.
Feel that Sarah and Bryan's style is more suited for custom homes and may not be resonating with the judges or what the other teams are putting out.
I am liking Michelle and Antony's making it look lux for less. I don't like granite and was thinking quartz if I ever get to updating my kitchen counters but I am thinking porcelain now.

Rock the Block:
I honestly liked only two of the living rooms this week, with Paige and Mitch taking the high honors and Michele and Antony a close second. I love a good library section in a home and the ceiling height in that room was 16 feet so why not? I also loved the fireplace between the shelves, such a lovely, cozy space that complemented their kitchen.
Michel and Antony had the long horizontal fireplace which was unusual but nice. When they first mentioned the seating nook to the side of the fireplace I was initially skeptical but loved the finished project; it's a great area to sit, plus dogs would love it. It was light, bright, and inviting. I really liked Anthony for saying that even though you have a top dollar property there are options that you can use within that are a lot cheaper, but just as nice.
Both of these teams opted to save money by using porcelain for their fireplaces instead of marble, and open accordion doors or large windows to take advantage of the beautiful view. They were also the only two teams who took advantage of the ceiling height to install wooden ceiling treatments which looked wonderful; if you have the space why not? Made the living rooms look more warm and inviting.
I was disappointed in the other two looks. While I understand why they had to do it, that painted brick was NOT the business in Jonathan's house, and I wasn't fond of the stone wall in Bryan and Sarah's home either. In addition to that, one of the teams design completely blocked the beautiful view and I can't understand why you would do such a thing? The shells are 1.5 mil, these houses are going to be worth at least 2.5 when finished, and anyone moving to that part of CO in that price bracket is going to want the view.
