Has anyone else gotten into Lovesick on Netflix?
The episodes are just under 30 minutes and the three seasons are 6 and 8 episodes each, so it's a quick binge. The cast is really charming, even the womanizer. I'm hopeful they'll do a fourth season, but since Antonia Thomas is on The Good Doctor now, that might not happen. Anyway, really quirky and fun show
I also finished season 2 of Happy Valley this weekend. Loved it, but still have a tough time with James Norton as a psycho! He's so darned cute. That show really is an odd mix of Harry Potter and Downton Abbey cast members: Molesley as a high strung lawman and O'Brien as an ex heroin addict and then Neville as a possible murderer and Moaning Myrtle as a meek teacher taken in by a psycho killer.
I finished season 2 of Luke Cage on Saturday. Loved it, but still have trouble hearing the n-word so much. Oh, and as much as I love Alfre Woodard, I just cannot root for Mariah Dillard. She's so evil! I love that AW's getting such fun, meaty roles, I just wish they were a teeny bit sympathetic....or at least had any human characteristics
I've been slowly making my way through Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere on Hulu, but they can't seem to format either correctly, so it's far too common that only half the shot shows on the screen. It's not the zoom feature on my TV that's a problem either: I tried that. I love seeing those old shows I loved, but it's annoying to only see half of the shot. You can see one person, but have no idea who they're talking to until the camera pans to them or the shot changes.

I love to binge a series too --- especially when the show is too good to wait a whole week for the next episode. So I'd almost rather tape the WHOLE season and wait it out till it's all finished, and THEN go to town and binge the whole thing!!! The only problem with that though, is if you do that, you're missing out on all the good talk about the show at FORT cause you haven't seen the episodes yet --- and most likely, you don't want them spoiled. What to do, what to do????

I just got hooked with a mini binge of C.B. Strike on Cinemax. This is the detective series based on Robert Galbraith's (aka JK Rowling) series. It stars Tom Burke, who I loved on Musketeers and Holliday Granger. Really fun, fast paced. The series was made for BBC and feels more like the format of Sherlock, with each book taking 2 or 3 episodes. Cinemax has aired up to what they consider season 1 episode 4, but BBC considers season 2 episode 1. Regardless, if you're a fan of British detective shows, this is a fun one
I'm nearing the end of The Tunnel with Stephen Dillane and Clemence Poesy, another British detective show. This one about a joint British-French investigation that is launched when a woman's body is found in the Chunnel half in France, the other in England. A little dark, but not Doctor Foster or Marcella dark. Fun to see Stephen Dillane out of his GOT garb actually being charming and SMILING once in a while. Oh, and fun to see Clemence Poesy out of the Harry Potter world. Plus, more GOT alums with Jospeh Mawle (Benjen) and Ed Skrein (Daario #1).

Sadly, I'm done with season three of Broadchurch. I want more! I'll miss that cast, they were all excellent.
On to season two of Marcella, which is looking pretty damn dark three episodes in!

Sadly, I'm done with season three of Broadchurch. I want more! I'll miss that cast, they were all excellent. On to season two of Marcella, which is looking pretty damn dark three episodes in! Yep, pretty dark. I finished it, but didn't love it. Glad you liked Broadchurch, way! I'd pretty much listen to David Tennant read the phone book, so I'll watch anything he's in. I even suffered through Fox's sub-par Broadchurch-inspired Gracepoint because of him. For some reason Americans just are not up to the level of the Brits with crime dramas (and most other dramas as well!). The British ones are always more complex and interesting. Less black and white, for sure.
I finished season 2 of The Tunnel last night and really enjoyed it. Season 3 has been released in France and the UK, but not here yet. It was much better than I expected, TBH. I figured it would be like "Stannis Baratheon and Fleur Delacour solve crimes," but it was much more complex than that. Not that I wouldn't enjoy the hell out of seeing Stannis Baratheon and Fleur Delacour solve crimes together The two leads were excellent. Looking forward to season 3 when it's released.
Now I'm doing Marvel's Runaways on Hulu. I guess it's in the Marvel universe, but it's not really superhero-y. The young cast is appealing and the parents are all appropriately menacing

The Alienist..
The best-selling book by Caleb Carr is the basis for "The Alienist," a psychological thriller set amidst the vast wealth, extreme poverty and technological innovation of 1896 New York. A never-before-seen ritualistic killer is responsible for the gruesome murders of boy prostitutes, and newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt calls upon criminal psychologist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, newspaper illustrator John Moore and police department secretary Sara Howard to conduct the investigation in secret. The brilliant, obsessive Kreizler is known as an alienist -- one who studies mental pathologies and the deviant behaviors of those who are alienated from themselves and society. His job, along with his controversial views, makes him a social pariah in some circles. But helped by a band of outsiders, Kreizler's tireless efforts eventually answer the question behind what makes a man into a murderer.
I wasn't sure, by episode three I was ready to binge..

'The Rain' - a Danish series about acid rain and the survivors. It totally has a 'Walking Dead' type feel. Two children were in their father's bunker for 5 years so they are innocent to what has happened during that time.
I'm really enjoying it.

"Mindhunter" on Netflix.
Based on fact, two FBI guys several decades ago start working together in what will become the FBI's Behavioral Sciences Unit. It was this unit that came up with the term "serial killer" . . . and these guys had a lot to do with developing the criminal profiles concept. There are dramatizations of actual early serial killer cases, using the correct names of the killers (e.g., Ed Kemper and Richard Speck). And there is a little vignette at the beginning of most of the 10 episodes of season 1 showing a famous serial killer . . . but they don't identify him by name. We crime groupies knew who he was after the first vignette.
Season 1 was 10 episodes (varying in length from 35 minutes to 57 minutes - ?), and we couldn't stop watching. They are reportedly filming Season 2 for release later this year.
While it's set in the USA, it feels more British. Great dialogue, no "shoot-'em-up" or crazy CGI scenes.
Thumbs up from here!

Schitt's Creek, which is a Canadian show written by Eugene Levy and his son Dan, and airs on station CBC. I'm watching it on Netflix and just finished season 1 and began season 2. There have been 4 seasons so far. Catherine O'Hara stars as Levy's wife and most of the cast is Canadian except for Chris Elliott. My sister recommended it and I'm glad she did b/c I LOVE it! It's so funny.
"When filthy-rich video store magnate Johnny Rose and his family suddenly find themselves broke, they are forced to leave their pampered lives to regroup and rebuild their empire from within the rural city limits of their only remaining asset - Schitt's Creek, an armpit of a town they once bought as a joke." I'm binging on Season 2 of Broadchurch. Charlottle Rampling is in it and my mom always said I looked like her when Charlotte Rampling was younger.

I have been trying to binge The Viet Nam War a Ken Burns doc, but as you can imagine its hard to watch more than 2 epis at a time! I love seeing the people who were there from both sides talking about their experiences. And the history of the whole thing is mind boggling and such a mess even before the U.S. got involved. The archival footage is amazing to watch and sad to see so many people who died or whose lives were forever changed by this conflict.

Any Carol Burnett fans here? We love, "A Little Help with Carol Burnett", on Netflix. Cute, precocious kids try to help adults that present their different dilemmas to them. The old addage, "from the mouths of babes...", is heavily at work in this series!!

Should I dive Right into Season 2 at 7:45 PM? 😁😁😁

I watched all of season 1 of Runaways on Saturday - only 10 episodes, so it was a quick one. Really fun with an appealing cast. I'm curious to see where they take the characters in season 2. This weekend I watched all three seasons of Casual on Hulu The fourth and final season will be released later this month, so I'm both looking forward to it and sad that a show I just discovered is about to end! This show reminds me of You're the Worst, another show I love. I enjoy shows with characters who are flawed and who maybe don't always make the best decisions. The three leads on this show are so good, but the characters aren't always likeable. They got some surprisingly deep stuff in season 3 - I guess surprising to people who haven't watched the show and are going just on the description. I realized I never watched the last two seasons of The Fall, so I'm doing that now. I'm on season 3, episode 5. One more episode after this and then I begin the wait for a possible 4th season.

I've been slowly making my way through the new season of Glow, but it's just not a binge-worthy show for me. I normally like Allison Brie a lot, but I find Ruth SO annoying. Not just her stage character and that horrid accent, but out of costume Ruth irritates me too. Hard to get through episodes when she's a main character. I'll finish it, but not all at once.
I finally finished The Fall and really hope they'll do another season. Some people question them doing another season without Jamie Dornan, but I didn't think he was that good. I mean, up against Gillian Anderson, he looked like an amateur. I found the Paul/Peter character pretty one-note. I'd love to see Stella Gibson working a completely different case.
Not sure what's up next, but I'm leaning toward Paranoid because I'm such a fan of Indira Varma.

We spent a lot of yesterday binge-watching "The Killing" on Netflix. There are some things I love about it (they are NOT rushing the story), but there are some things that the characters do that annoy me. As I often do, I found spoilers so that I know "who done it" . . . but this time, Mr. AZC let me tell him, so as we're watching the story unfold, we're seeing little hints that I'm not sure we would have picked up on if we didn't know where it's going.
There are 13 episodes per season, so we're just into season 2. But it's going to be 114 here today, so I suspect there will be a few more episodes being watched at our house.

I totally binged GLOW yesterday. I loved it. I loved the assemble cast. I thought the woman with the son at college was such a great and moving episode. I looked her up and she's actually a wrestler. I'm shocked because her eyes are so expressive and want to see her in more things.
I also loved how they showed how they support each other when a character was in the hospital. It was funny and touching.

It's been really hot, so I've been inside binge watching series after series!
Paranoid with Indira Varma was terrific. Two seasons and I wish they'd done more. Really solid British detective series.
I finally watched The Paradise and it was lovely. That's another one I wish they'd continued.
I totally switched gears and watched the first 2.5 seasons of Humans, only to find the actress who played Clara in The Paradise playing a synth in Humans!
Next up was Dark Water a 4 episode Australian crime show starring Yael Stone. SO strange to watch her with her real Australian accent instead of the over-the-top Brooklyn accent (and RED lipstick) from Orange is the New Black.
Now I'm about half way through Secret City, another Aussie drama, starring Anna Torv. All about spycraft and journalists trying to uncover the truth.
There's no end in sight to this heat, so I'm sure there's more to come!
ETA: Whoops! I'm NOT halfway through Secret City. Netflix only has season one and it's only 6 episodes long. Twelve episodes total, but season one isn't available yet. NOW have to wait! Boo!
ETA2: OMG, I just started Hinterland on Netflix. It's another UK crime drama (surprise! ), this time set in Wales and the scenery is SO beautiful that I already wish I could book myself a ticket and go....you know, in spite of the murder-y plot of the show
