It was an odd time for Joy to take a week off. I wonder if she's okay.

I haven't had time to watch since the new season started, although I have caught a few random clips online.
I thought Meghan's re-intro earlier this week was good and I particularly liked their conversation yesterday about Lady Gaga and mental illness. Whoopi told Meghan she's still grieving for her brother and her mother. The average American only gets 2 or 3 days of when a parent passes away. What was afforded Meghan should be more the norm than the exception.

I really enjoyed the discussion that they had yesterday regarding Melania Trump's comments on the me too movement. Meghan and Whoopi were both navigating into unpopular waters making the points they were and I think both did it very well to acknowledge the risks of being misunderstood in what they were saying but to lay it out anyway. There were some VERY different points of view in that discussion and I thought they did a pretty good job of showing how passionate they were but also not attacking or demeaning each other. It was one conversation though since Megan has been back that I thought showed that Abby is still in a bit over her head. She was trying to make the same point Megan was, but couldn't get it out quite as well because she's still so fixated on making sure everyone feels good. I also thought she stepped in it a bit when Whoopi was talking about taking heat for saying she wanted more information in the past about some accusations when Abby tried to claim she's been through the same. Yes, Abby has taken heat for saying things people didn't agree with in the past - anyone on TV who expresses opinions has. But the level of heat that Whoopi has faced is at a different level and I think it was a little foolish of her to lose sight of that.

I thought Yvette was rude today, proving she wouldn't make a very good full time host. Her remarks about the first lady seemed spiteful and immature.

She also kept cutting Abby off more than was okay, so I was glad that Meghan was able to get in there and make the point that Abby was trying to make.

I just read that, Fanny. I think Whoopi was disgusting. He might have sloughed it off, but I don't find her amusing at all.

Last season, Whoopi took most Fridays off. I wasn't the least surprised that she wasn't there.

The timing seemed off to me, especially with a co host, Sunny is a lousy moderator though

I will take the unpopular opinion and say that I think things are being misunderstood/exaggerated between Whoopi and Neil. The two of them have publicly had a pretty strong bond ever since Clara’s Heart. I remember other times when Neil has been on the show and they’ve talked about it. The bond seems quite genuine. I think Neil made the comment to embarrass Whoopi in a fun way, and I think Whoopi’s response puts it in context. She said he had a lot of questions. Sounds to me like she was a trusted adult in his life he could ask about things as he was figuring out sexuality. At some point she wanted out of the questions and made the comment about waiting ten years. Doesn’t sound to me like an advance on him but rather a way to stop answering questions that may have gone from feeling helpful to uncomfortable. Also AlwaysVeg is right about Whoopi normally being off fridays. I think she covered them the beginning of this season because Megan was off, but now that she’s back Whoopi is back to her normal schedule. Joy is normally the Friday moderator but with Lisa filling in for her they didn’t need Whoopi to have enough women at the table so Sunny took moderator responsibilities.

I'm not sure why that is unpopular..people think what they will. If they dont like something, they will take it to twitter. I just played all that, and the audience wasn't finding it funny, so whatever

I think the audience reaction was similar to when two people are sharing an inside joke and others aren’t quite clear on what is being said.

I don't dismiss your point, but I think that if it was truly inappropriate, Whoopi and Neil would not have maintained the bond they have for 30 years. Their understanding of the event matters more than what an audience that was not there and does not know the full story thinks in my book.

NPH seems like a great guy but he and his husband seem to overcompensate when it comes to their children. Everything is always so perfect.

I'm with acookertv. It sounds like she just made a smart ass remark, not a serious offer of sex, and people are blowing it out of proportion. The fact that he introduced it by saying that she promised him sex doesn't play well in this environment, but I think he was just busting her chops. It doesn't sound like either of them really took it that way.

NHP also banters with Kelly Ripa when he co-hosts Live because they are close friends outside of work.
I enjoy hearing this type of interaction; it's both natural and revealing. Most often what we as an audience discover is why they're so loved and appreciated.

I had to go watch the WG / NPH clip because it's caused a lot of controversy and I wanted to see what all the hype was about.
I've noticed an odd pattern emerging on other social media sites. It seems that the viewers who salivate the most over the latest soap opera sex scandal and every juicy tidbit of who's sleeping with who on daytime TV, are also the ones who complain the most whenever anything sexual is discussed outside of the realm of those same soap operas.
We can't even mention the word 'sex' anymore without someone trying to turn it into harassment. People need to relax and stop trying to make something out of nothing. We have lost our sense of humor.
If WG had made that comment toward NPH back when he was 15, that may not have been appropriate by today's vigilant standards, but it was a different time back then, and it clearly hasn't traumatized him, so people need to quit trying to stir the pot. When you cry foul over every little thing, it diminishes the importance and seriousness of true sexual assault and sexual harassment.

I agree that it might be an inside joke, but I agree with FannyMare. I don't think inside jokes work well on a talk show, either. For one, a lot of people just don't get what they're getting at, and two, a lot of people aren't amused by this type of "joking".

I was hoping they'd address Melania's ABC interview including her explanation for wearing the coat that none of them appreciated. I wonder if they are waiting for Whoopi to get back.
I loved the women strong clip they ran before going to commercial. My, times have changed, haven't they?

They talked about the Melania interview quite a bit on Friday. Since they did so much to preview it I don’t know if they had much more to say post mortem.
I have such a crush on Ben Sasse’s brain, and was so happy to see him on the show. I thought he did a great job of answering their questions directly but also recognizing the limits of discussing complex issues with such short segments. But sunny irritated me a bit challenging him on immigration. She started out saying she didn’t understand why he had the position he did. So he tries to explain it to her, and she keeps interrupting him to make her own points, she’s never going to understand it if she doesn’t listen!

He also answered well about Kavanaugh, 146 interviewed? not that quelled Joys opinion, but that's okay ..
