Funny, I watched it just for Ali too! And, of course, Ali was great as always, and it was good to see Roberts in a role that wasn't lovable. Every time I see Ethan Hawke, I remember reading that he never wears deodorant. Died when he was walking around with a 'Bikini Kill' t-shirt.
What took me out of the story was how wrong the geography was. You can't be on Long Island (an hour from Sag Harbor) and still see NYC's skyline. (That's not a huge plot point.)

Leave the World Behind. Starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke. This was really good. A family rents a country Airbnb away from the big city. Things start to go very, very bad! I read the book and enjoyed it. I wonder how closely the movie follows the plot of the book. I’m not a huge Julia Roberts fan, but I love Mahershala Ali. I’d watch it just for him. We are about half way through but were getting tired and decided to watch the rest tonight. I'm like you, not a fan of her but of his for sure. Question with spoiler {Spoiler} Was it us or is she racist?

Fans of the Great British Baking Show - Netflix dropped the Christmas Holiday Special 2022 and the New Year Special 2022/2023 this Friday.
These are the last shows with Matt and Noel as hosts.
It is kinda icky seeing Matt again as I have enjoyed the new host Alison so much and she brings such a breath of fresh air and positive energy to the show.

Squid Game: The Challenge - this started out great and sort of got worse at the end. Not thrilled with the winner nor did I like the final "game" for over 4 million. They're already casting for a second season. Reptile - this was a really good murder mystery, plus I'll watch anything with Benicio Del Toro in it. Obliterated - so much fun! Kind of a twisted A-Team/ The Hangover mashup. I hope they do another season. Can you spoil it for me, good sir/sis? I have no desire to continue watching as everything about it gave me serious ick.

Kao the winner was {Spoiler} Mai, she beat Phill in a stupid game of rock paper scissors. And she says she hasn't gotten her money yet!

Damn, that person was low-key, I barely remember them! Good on them for putting Netflix on blast though. Give them their money!

We finished up Leave the World Behind and the ending perplexed us. It was so sudden. I don't mind weird endings but did I miss something?

I'm guessing we're supposed to be left feeling as uncertain as the characters? *shrug* They did a great job of making it tense and foreboding, then they left the ending with...that. I don't need everything wrapped up at the end in a pretty bow, but that particular ending wasn't my favorite. Still an excellent movie, though I did NOT like Robert's character.

I guess so, but I kept thinking there must be more to it. I agree with you, I have seen movies with ambiguous endings but they seemed to make more sense. The movie was quite good though. That scene with the cars! And I liked what the premise/cause is thought to be. {I was reminded } of the episode of the Twilight Zone "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" where the neighbors start turning on each other all because some aliens turned off the electricity etc....

I just finished Leave the World Behind and as it neared the end I thought how can they finish this? The girl is the only one that had a stated desire…

The end drove me crazy. But I did enjoy the rest of it Yes. It was frustrating. We started an interesting 3 part documentary Bad Surgeon, about this doctor who created a plastic windpipe. It is very interesting.

We watched Hell Camp: Teen Nightmare about "wilderness therapy" for troubled teens. It was quite good. I feel for the parents who, at the end of their rope, thought they were doing something good to help their child and it was this. I also think in theory, this might not be a bad idea but this was not the way at all to run it. You don't get results by humiliating and abusing someone.

The scripted drama called Dr. Death is on Peacock. The documentary about the doctor from the second season is on Netflix. From what I've read, Mandy Moore was terribly miscast in season 2. I don't have Peacock, so I won't be watching anyway.
I enjoyed the Dr. Death podcast about the first bad doctor. I should check to see if they did a second season.

We finished THE CROWN and thoroughly loved it.
Seeing Olivia Colman and Claire Foy was the bonus.
NICELY DONE.
We watched MAESTRO last night.
We thought the movie was very well done.
I thought Carey Mulligan was outstanding as Felicia.
Bradley Cooper was excellent as Leonard.
All in all a must see.

I was watching The Crown last night, and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it (after you pass last season's slump). I keep reminding myself that Charles isn't that good-looking in real life because I keep getting lost in how handsome he is and how charming. I feel like that was such a miscast, but Hollywood has to Hollywood.

We watched the 6 part Swedish show "A Nearly Normal Family". It wasn't bad and very twisty. I thought I had the murderer down but not quite. Very enjoyable.

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and started "Beef". I wanted to see it when it first came out but my husband didn't want to. Last night I saw the ad for it and as I saw it was doing well with awards, I watched it myself. I'm at episode 6. I know they say it is a drama but I found some slight humor, much of it ironic.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer - what an incredibly strange movie. I'm still not sure how I feel about it... Fool Me Once - a fun mystery series that kept me guessing (just ignore the plot holes ). Love and Monsters - a funny/sweet monster apocalypse movie, I really enjoyed this one.
